  1. I did the same with a chicken chausser sauce, and the rabbit was just edible, but not exceptional, tried it with other cook in sauces such as curry, sweet and sour, and casserole mix and it was lovely. Maybe the mix of flavours does not suit rabbit meat?? Cheers Aled
  2. Cracking fish well done. I love seeing youngsters with good fish. Cheers Aled
  3. Mepps anglia longue size 3 or 4 in bronze or silver or the Irish Lane Minnow. I dont do anywhere near as much spinning as i used i seem to do better on fly for some reason, i reckon its got a lot to do with self confidence in whats at the end of your line. Tight Lines Aled

  5. I had shoulder surgery on a dislocated shoulder (slightly different injury i know) in 1995 and since then it has been fine. I've been able to play rugby without any problems. Get it sorted the surgery now is even better than then. Good luck. Aled
  6. Salmon dont seem to get to my part of the Tywi as often as they used to however the odd one does arrive. Tomorrows the day. We've had some rain and the river is falling back nicely. Tight Lines Aled
  7. I'm one of the lucky ones as i have had a couple of doubles, best 13lb 9ozs. Chuffed with that one i could tell you. There are some sewin around in April, but give me a good flood in May and we can have great sport with fish from about 4lb up. These early fish are also the best eaters, they have blood red flesh and go really well with Hollandase sauce and early vegetables. Lovely. Fly at night is my passion. What about the Tyne? 8. Another week to go for me here in Wales, but the river Tywi does produce some lovely spring sewin (sea trout) so hoping for one of those in the next week or so.... Tight Lines Aled

  11. How times have changed! Many teachers in the rural area i was brought up in (and still live) are active shooters and fishers, as were/are our scout leaders and football/rugby coaches! My wife is a teacher and farmers daughter she would not teach that. Crikey keep us posted i'm interested. Cheers Aled

  14. I'm a rugger bugger so i know quite a few of them who shoot and/or fish. Dean Richards, Sir Clive Woodward, Lawrence Dallalgio (England), Gareth Edwards, Scott Quinnell (Wales) Doddie Weir, Budge Poutney, Ian Smith (Scotland) Rob Wainwright has already been mentioned. With the exception of Ian Smith (although he may of as well) all have talked about their fieldsports in rugby, shooting or fishing magazines, on TV programmes, or pre match programmes. Finally one more cricketer Robert Croft, Glamorgan, England, and Wales enjoys both shooting and fishing. Give me time i'll probably

  19. HI MC I started fly tying using a book called Fly Tying for Beginners by Geoffrey Bucknall, however the book was very old when i was given it! I would suggest that you get either books by Bob Church or Bob Carnill. The best place to look however is Coch y Bonddu bookshop. (They are on line put Coch y Bonddu Books into google) they will have a huge selection there. However i really learnt to tie flies at a class, the Fly Tiers Guild could possiby help you out with a class near you. Two things to remember, one is scruffy fies can and do catch fish (my surface lures are very scruffy but they'
  20. Nice pike MC and good to see you back on the river. Best stress relief going imho is a bit of fishing. My season kicks off on April the 1st cant wait to get back at them sea trout. Got to sit at the vice and tie some flies first. My son is a little bit too young to take yet but in a year or two i cant wait to take him to the small streams in the Brecon Beacons where it all began for me, my Father and my Grandfather. The next generation Tight Lines Aled
  21. I use a John Wilson 11ft avon rod for my bait fishing its landed sea trout up to 13lb and salmon up to 9lb. Cheers Aled
  22. Most Welsh rivers start on the 20th of March, for salmon and sea trout, and closes on the 17th of October, however the Tywi starts on the 1st of April. Brown trout usually starts the same time with one or two exceptions such as the upper Teif which opens on the 3rd of March. Brown trout season closes on the 30th of september. I think some English rivers open in February, and i do know that some Cornish rivers close for salmon on the 15th of December. There are regional variations. All salmon caught in England and Wales before the 16th of June must be returned to the water. Tight Lines A
  23. Another case of perhaps??? Cheers Aled
  24. I don't know where to put this so here's as good as anywhere! It was inspired by the stories i read about good working dogs being nicked. This is a true story! In the depths of wild Welsh Wales back in the late 40's there was a shortage of good quality working gundogs, because none of the local roughshooters could afford to buy one. They used a mottley crew of mongrels of different sorts. However there was one bloke, the squires gamekeeper who did have a good working labrador dog, he was given one as part of his job. The gamekeeper was a creature of habit, he worked hard 6 days a week, h
  25. Similar subject, anybody read Chris Newtons biography of Hugh Falkus, called Life on the edge? Hugh was one of the first "angling stars with Salmo the leaper, and several fishing books. Turns out he was not quite the person we hoped he was. Cheers Aled
