I doubt they're dead Rolfe - Alf doesn't 'do' dead stuff. He usually loses interest in whatever he's munching shortly after it stops twitching, which is why there's usually just a bit eaten. He must think I really like rodent guts It's a thought tho .... guess I better ask the neighbours just in case. But, if they were full of poison, wouldn't he be ill? I doubt he would be ill even if he devoured the entire rat............there would be too small amout of rodenticide in a rat to worry about i think. BUT. that is if it is normal 0.005% rodenticide......be aware there may be other subs

Just had a call to remove a small wasp nest from a garden shed..........have any pesters out there had one yet? Thought i would show the wonderful construction of a wasp nest from last season..........they truly are a work of art.

If you are on good terms with your firearms officer i would run it past him first.............to double check....maybe you will be ok............i know they were a bit funny when i did mine.

Beef heart is fine as is any heart really.........no reason not to give often if you so wish... but it is beneficial to have variation in a working dogs diet.

Just a thought.........you have one hell of a ratter there........could someone be using rodenticide already to control the rats......hence you may be being brought rats already dead or rats caught being very nearly dead?

You will not have a problem getting the .22 but i would drop the ammunition requirement slightly as they sometimes are fussy over the "hold and buy " scenario...........go for a lesser amount. Rolfe.

Pigeon droppings in the garden, on seats, on washing.........public health reasons enough to shoot them under the terms of the general licence..........provided you have tried all other means to move them on. The seagulls on the neighbours roof..........no can do............to many reasons to go into but basically your pellet is leaving your property etc. danger to public etc etc etc. Rolfe.

Boil it up...... chop it up...... and mix it with the normal feed if you like........not too much though.....freeze the rest to use at a later date. Rolfe.

Yes...........those geese would be up and away before the dog got anywhere near them. I know........i tried many times. They always have a lookout on duty that starts the alarm call as soon as a predator comes near. Rolfe.

The pleasure is in learning the art.......whatever that may be.....be it long netting, snaring, trapping or any other method that requires hours of endless practice. Experience is exactly that........these things cannot be learned overnight and in adopting these quick fix solutions, the whole learning exercise........fieldcraft.....call it what you will ...is bypassed and valuable lessons along with it. Firstly, boil the traps in water containing a little soda to remove all traces of oils........rinse and then add walnut husks or oak bark and boil again..........job done. Use a wire brush to clean up any rusty areas. Rolfe.

As long as you keep the bolt separate from the rifle and also the ammunition you should be fine.........i keep my rifle and shotguns together no problems.

As a full time pest controller i come across this problem on a daily basis and it is something you have to come to terms with. Most, if not all, of the young you describe would not have reached aldulthood anyway......natural predation would take care of that. So think of it as removing 8 rabbits instead of three and it wont seem quite as bad. Rolfe.
