  1. Well the Jaffa Cakes would have all gone long before they reached me i'm sure of that Tracey Rolfey.
  2. What do you know about this trap approval process in the UK? Who do I have to submit a sample to get that process rolling? Steve.......as long as the trap is used in mole runs underground it comes under the " SMALL GROUND GAME ACT " and is therefore excempt of any approvals process........the same as for break back rat and mouse traps. Rolfe.
  3. There is often discussion as to "weather" traps prior to use! I always boil my traps in water with some soda added or automatic washing powder will do...........then rinse them thouroughly and hang them outside for a few weeks (see picture). This removes all grease and oils acquired during manufacture which is essential when trapping moles. That said, if you catch moles using brand new untreated traps then who am i to argue........it's what works for you at the end of the day. Rolfe.
  4. A true gent who gives generously his Knowledge and more importantly..His Time.

  5. Sorry to hear that LL.....get it sorted ready for serious ferreting later in the year to get some weight off your pampered hobs. Hope all goes well and you are back to normal very soon....! With Best Wishes Rolfe.
  6. I'll check a couple of things out Steve and get back to you mate.......Rolfe.
  7. Beddie/Whippet...........excellent ferreting companions.
  8. Whippet/Beddie cross mate...........best ferreting dog i have ever owned and i have had a few Rolfe.
  9. Ditch.........as a footnote to the feral ferret / true polecat saga...........our local keeper was trapping (and still is) quite a few of these animals and sent a couple off to some university somewhere for a closer inspection. He tells me the report came back........they were NOT pure polecat. Make of that what you will...........i personally don't know enough about genetics to argue. Rolfe.
  10. Where i live there are colonies of "Feral Ferrets" roaming quiet freely and surviving well. They are all polecat marked and are as wild as any true polecat. They are, i believe, the decendants of escapees and lost ferrets that have started to breed in the wild. I regularly catch them in my rabbit cage traps, and they hiss and stink to high heaven as you describe. Where i can....... I set them free after capture as they are helpling me with my rabbit control so to speak. As for taming them down.........i doubt it could be easily achieved..........but......just maybe it can be done, but i would
  11. The answer to your question is yes............the presence of a natural predator in the vicinity of any birds nest will certainly deter them from nesting in that area. Rolfe.
  12. That looks a useful bit of kit Steve............wouldn't mind trying out a couple of those........any cost effective samples? I can't see how that trap would MISS a mole if it was triggered.........do you get any misses? Best Regards Rolfe.
  13. They're Ghost writers mate..........
  14. Yet another call to clear some rabbits from an Industrial estate this time.........we bolted and netted 8 big-uns and the rest were wee fryers.....! Still we had no lay-ups which was good ............sunny day........nets....dog......ferrets.....what more could you want Rolfe.
  15. Two gay ghosts in the haunted house kept putting the willies up each other....
  16. I think someone may be slightly taking the p*ss here.............don't you. Clean kill with head shot 35-40 yrds max..........in perfect conditions. Rolfe. PS. I did shoot a unicorn with a pop-gun last week ........dropped it stone dead at just under 4 miles.
  17. They will use the runs, and moles are pretty good swimmers by the way.........but in prolonged wet spells they tend to head for drier ground like hedge bottoms or woodland. Rember traps will not be as efficient if they are clogged with wet clay type soil. Rolfe.
  18. Sounds like a Garrett Treasure Ace.......they do a 200 and a 300 i think............i have used the 200 and it is an OK detector for the newcomer and has discrimination settings a well. I know the 200 was about £250 to £275 from memory when new.............so if it is mint i would seem a good price...........you would be better buying seconhand from a detector outlet though..........check internet for suppliers they all do good seconhand models and you have some redress should problems arise. Rolfe.
  19. That rescue Lurcher is a cracker LL..................Well done. Rolfe.
  20. Lloydy..........use hazel wands as setting pegs.............half the thickness of them buggers..........and most important.....keep the head and foot lines tight and have the net a foot lower than in the picture.......so you have some decent bagging (kill)...........rabbits will bounce off it you set it like that mate. But it looks a useful stop net if set correctly..........nowt wrong with it as far as i can see Best Wishes Rolfe.
  21. Nice one mate........keep on with them and the setting becomes second nature........believe it or not i still have not had a miss with a Talpex yet...........every trap so far that has sprung has contained a mole.........sooner or later a stone or something will cause a miss.........but so far so good. Rolfe.
  22. Any trap or snare is only as humane as the skill and the knowledge of the person setting it. Any device that physically restrains or kills any animal has the ability to be inhumane if set incorrectly. Before setting any trap or snare it is vital that all precautions are taken to ensure a swift clean kill or a humane live capture. If you cannot do this or your knowledge of trapping is minimal, then do NOT attempt to catch any species of animal....full stop. Best Regards Rolfe.
  23. There is ongoing discussion as we speak regarding the legality or otherwise of this type of equipment, and whether it complies with all the current legislation and its conditions of use. Watch this space....!!!!!!!!! Rolfe.
  24. Hiya Moley, No, all my settings have the tongue centrally located on the trigger bar.........i think the tongues have slid that way as i pulled the moles headfirst from the runs, or they have moved that way during firing. You are right it would be folly to set the tongue towards either end as, like you say, if the mole approached from the other direction it would produce a foul catch. I suppose i could have moved the tongues to the centre again for the purposes of the picture, but i wanted to show them exactly as they were pulled from the ground with no doctoring. Thankyou for your observatio
