  1. In my experience the natural sag of the net between the setting pegs ensures the net touches the floor, but i have never yet seen a running rabbit try and get under a net.........they always hit them full on and try to go through them rather than under or over them. Rolfe
  2. Two ways you can do it............. either 12 inch squares of 2 in thick wood plates with a hole in the centre as foot plates for the setting pegs. Or X shaped lengths of timber with a metal tube or pipe fitted to the top to take the pegs. Rolfe.
  3. I have done loads of jobs like this mate..........and its ferrets every time........get the long nets round best you can and out on the concrete apron use wooden blocks with a hole in the top to take the long net pegs.....weight them with bricks if you have too. As long of there are a couple of guys to watch all sides of the cabins (one on each opposite diagonal corner) you wont lose any ferrets...........! Rolfe.
  4. Cheers Malt..........Appreciated Mate. Rolfe.
  5. Just a picture of more mink scats.........mink is scats.........otter is spraint..........still sh*t at the end of the day but thought i would point out the difference for the technically minded.
  6. Hello and welcome to the site Joo..............enjoy. Rolfe.
  7. Most if not all motorway embankments belong to the Highways Agency as already stated. Most of the guys i know that do the rabbit control for the Highways Agency use Talunex or Phostoxin.........if your looking for sport forget it......far too risky. Rolfe.
  8. I think and hope not many people parted with their money........if something looks too good to be true.........it usually is!
  9. Personally an organisation such as this would be no use to me at all. Most advertising directories work on the assumption that people are always looking for work (naturally). I am in the fortunate position where i can pick and choose my mole jobs and i turn down as much work as i accept. Where i can i pass on the unwanted work to local "pesties"who benefit from my good fortune. For people not so inundated with work as me, they (COULD) benefit if the volume of work was forthcoming, but mole work hot-spots are few and far between so it would still be a gamble....but Hey.....for a fiver what hav
  10. Just Googled it,!!! Used for sharpening Knives !!!!! Mars. Yep..........thats the one.........hence the name! Rolfe.
  11. It looks like...."Razor-strop-Fungus.....(Piptoporus Betulinus).......? Rolfe.
  12. I too work with the Talpex in great numbers and to be honest......the spring is that powerful that i have never felt the need to change a trap even after hundreds of catches.....! Yes in practice any spring will start to weaken with constant use........but the Talpex spring was set to "over kill" in the first place. Even traps that are a few years old are still more powerful than a brand new Duffus or Tongs type trap in my opinion. Rolfe.
  13. Mk 1 Looks like to me mate........! Rolfe.
  14. it's not always practical or possible to place cages in certain situations........IE hedgerow buries thick with brambles. But in open buries they can and do work. My main concern is the sheer bulk of the damn things to carry about during a days ferreting.........nets are far more versatile. Rolfe.

    goose eggs

Well tracey.........you could always take turns to incubate the eggs..........give the goose a break every four hours or so. It would keep you off the comp for a while anyway. Rolfey.
  16. Steve.......i can see exactly where you coming from and i understand your thinking and indeed i will try out the method you describe. The reason i completely cover the traps is so the mole cant push up to the surface so easily as it would do with the shallow covering...... forcing it to push through rather than up....and also to disguise the trap from prying eyes.
  17. Cut a hazel peg about 10 inches long slightly smaller in dia than the ring on the chain. slip the ring over the peg and hammer in a fence staple to hold it in place. Sharpen the other end and the jobs done.......simple. Rolfe.
  18. The powers that be are looking to make this law, 20 uses max, a lot going on in the background regarding mole trapping. I have been told from a very reliable source involved in this that the research could take 3 years. A lot of us think laws will be kicking in a lot sooner, hopefully the one that ststes traps not to be sold to the general public. The latter can only be good for the professional. Right time to get some contracts written, work to do. Sorry, but this is incorrect information. The government are looking at an approval system for all traps, which will enable them to com
  19. I also noticed the traps show very little sign of use and are brand spanking new..........makes you wonder just how much use they have had or will see in the future....! Rolfe

    magpies

Anybody who has to ask if Magpies are OK for human consumption obviously knows very little about the species in question.........as JD said........get real. I will help anyone with a genuine question and answer it to the best of my ability but some requests for specific information just don't seem to add up. Rolfe.
  21. Hi Steve, Talpex on its way to you..............yes place it in the run and fill it with loose soil up to the top of the trap. i'll send pictures when you get the trap re-setting and placement. Steve.
  22. Not blackbirds Lloydy...........but i have a nest of young Robins in the ivy.......that are on the verge of fledging Rolfey.

    my ferruginous

Well done Tracey for your time and effort in restoring Froo back to health.......i know you have put in a lot of hard work to get her fit and all credit to you. Sadly the time has come for her to go and i know you will have a heavy heart watching her go, but as you point out she deserves more attention than you can now give her. Just make sure she goes to a permanent loving home. Rolfe.
  24. Serious thought is being given to a closed off area for trusted and approved members to post topics as you have suggested.......ultimately the decision rests with Ian B who as you know has the final say in these matters. Can i assure you though that things are being tightened up on the forum and the agitators and morons that post utter sh*te will be removed if they continue to do so. Rolfe.
  25. Well there's certainly some work gone into that.......terrific job that.........and all our kids can do is sit on the computer all day. Is there a door in it somewhere to remove the trapped fish. Its funny but all fish traps are basically the same wherever you are in the world.........which country was that one from? Rolfe.
