  1. This is an old picture (it must be i was still playing rugby) of an albino grey squirrel that was destined for the taxidermist. It was found on the roadside at Berwick-on-Tweed the result of a collision with a motor vehicle it was presumed.

It has to cross your path though Oh...Many times Kay

    Luck

Seeing a black pussy is supposed to be good luck...........so i'm told
  5. I always just fry the livers up for the dogs..........and I deal with a lot of rabbits usually on a daily basis........i eat plenty of rabbits........but always cook up the heart, lungs and livers for the dogs to supplement their usual diet.....failing that i freeze them up for ferret food. Rolfe.
  6. My Beddie/Whippet lurcher is extremely softed mouthed........he brought in and placed on the settee completely unharmed..........this tiny mouse.......its eyes weren't even opened yet. Where he found it in the garden i don't know, and how he carried it without harming it i don't know either
  7. I agree with all Chris has said........and he is quite right about giving away too many trade secrets.......! I will advise anyone on certain aspects of mole trapping........(if i can see what they are doing wrong) and will advise on the grounds of being more humane in their method of trap setting...... if it is resulting in foul catches. What i will never devulge are some of the tricks of the trade that i use ...... that makes me more successful than my competitors. I have just been and cleared 4 football pitches of moles........after a so called "Moleman" had plied his trade. I removed a fu
  8. What do you intend to do with all the reared birds Tracey?........are they to sell on as poults to a shoot or are you rearing them to dress ready for the table?........if it's the latter..........i always knew that deep down you were a pheasant plucker Rolfe.
  9. Yep............Tawny owl I'd say...............the young of the year can be quite light in colour and often get mistaken for barn owls at night........I caught 3 tawny's in my Larsen Trap last season.
  10. And more importantly..........out of reach of thieving fingers also
  11. The "Owl Lady" as she is known around here, asked a few years back if she could site a few owl boxes in the little spinneys and copses on the golf course where I do the wildlife management. I regularly check, clean out, and report any "Owl" activity to her for her records as she monitors the Barn Owl population in the area. One particular box (completely sited in the wrong place for owls) is used regularly by the grey squirrels as a breeding box and also as a weather proof drey for generally laying up in. Ever the opourtunist I soon saw the potential for some serious grey squirrel control here
  12. In still waters..... some of the green algi's are dangerous to dogs........he should be fine but get him checked out ASAP anyway to be on the safe side. But what chemicals they use in a net dip i am not sure, the vet would need to know though.........so i would find out all you can first.
  13. They are all brave on the keyboard Tom...............i wouldn't lose any sleep over it mate. Rolfe.
  14. Ditch mate.............I used to be a psychiatric nurse in a secure hospital in a previous life........the symptoms are begining to look familiar ............do you need to talk to someone Rolfe.
  15. My ideal night out JD..........a good drink followed by some heavy action. Terrific pictures mate..........
  16. Cheers mate........commision bids will be going in soon............some good gear there. Rolfe.
  17. If i had my way every ferret would cost a minimum of £100........that way it might stop some of the poor creatures being passed from one bad owner to another. I treat all my animals with the respect they deserve, and in return they work their hearts out for me day after day, and are an integral part of my working life. Any kits i breed only ever go to working homes and the people have to be known to me personally.......that way i can be reasonably sure they will have a long and happy working life and be housed in clean and sanitary conditions......Rant Over Rolfe.

    Polecat?

We have colonies of these types breeding wild around here.........i think they are feral ferrets.........too light to be true polecats i think...........but you never know!

    WHERE'S

As far as i'm aware he asked to be deleted........hope this helps. Rolfe.
  20. Try letting them all out together in the garden.........or if it is fully innoculated taking them out over the fields together, although it won't be fully innoculated at that age. It maybe the lurcher feels its territory has been compromised...........neutral ground should soon sort it out.
  21. You might try doing what i do and this way it doesn't matter if it is smooth or crunchy..........mix a good handful of fresh peanuts into the peanut spread..........it works extemely well with the Kania trap for grey squirrels. Rolfe.
  22. The story of Frederick Rolfe.........i have studied and help research for a forthcoming publication due out later this year. He was born in Pentney in Norfolk.........and lived in his final years at Bungay in Suffolk..........an absolutely facinating character........who spent most of his life poaching the land around Norfolk........that is when he wasn't in Norwich prison for one of his numerous poaching or other convictions............! When the book is published i will let you know Ditch..........and if you are in some way related......it will become clear in the finished manuscript......
  23. Living next to a large country estate with plenty of woods and remote country lanes as i do, i often find animals dumped at the roadside......chickens and bantams are common.....and and on one particular shoot day a huge multi-coloured Parrot was put over the guns. But I witnessed an act of such stupidity that it beggars belief. Driving through a wooded area along a narrow lane, my eyes were drawn to an orange and white bundle of fur turning cartwheels on the verge. Reversing the 4x4 back i went to investigate........I expected to see a fox cub or such like having been clipped by a car........
  24. Yes Ditch.......they had toe pads.........It did cross my mind it may be grey squirrel and you could be right....but they looked too short and broad in the pad length for me..........but Grey's do frequent the area also.
  25. Daihatsu Fourtrak.........mines done 187.000 miles and is still going strong.
