  1. Nice job Richie.............use peanut butter spread and fresh peanuts mixed in as an attractant and you will soon be reducing the grey population. Often though.........baiting is not required as they will enter out of curiosity. Rolfe.
  2. Here's some pictures from today.........once the flowers drop and the seed pods form........it is sprayed with a type of dessicant to kill it off and then it is harvested. It is also sometimes cut and left to lay in swathes to dry out naturally but there is a high loss of yield with this method as the pods tend to open and scatter the seed.
  3. As i understand it the law states: Under section 8 pests act 1954 it is an offence, in respect of any animal, to use or permit the use of: 1. Unapproved spring traps. 2. Approved trap in unapproved circumstances. The prohibition in section 8 does NOT apply to break back traps designed and used to catch small ground vermin (e.g. rats and mice) or the type commonly used for taking moles in their runs as these are made an exception under the Small Ground Vermin Trap Order 1958. Rolfe. You beat me to it Rolfe! The STAO does not apply in this case, although the Duffus trap is

I slabbed my dog runs...hardcore base, Whackered it down, dot and dab bedded the slabs........pointed the joints etc. Still it moved after time........joints started to sink and hold urine etc. Another point........if you are bolting the frames to the floor........you will have a hard job drilling through slabs. Rolfe.

    bites

It looks like an allergic reaction to an insect bite of some sort for sure...........could it be a horse fly bite? These don't itch a lot but can cause inflamation and swelling. Get it checked out anyway.......to be on the safe side. Rolfe.
  15. Remember to set the noose well up........10-12 inches from the bottom of the loop so as to avoid non-target species. If there are deer in the vicinity then bend a jump stick above the wire. Rolfe.

  20. I remember seeing a tape I think of Mick Mansbridge.........and he soaked and un-rolled his spools of hemp in wood preservative........then made balls of hemp up to knit later. This made sure that the inside of the knots were trated as well. I never use hemp nets myself...........I knit all mine from poly/cotton thread......as used in the boot and shoe trade, and these are light weight, extremely strong and hard wearing and fold up really small. Rolfe.
