  1. I spotted these this morning while checking some traps on the golf course. They were in a sand storage bunker and i just wondered if anyone has any ideas. My first thought was a polecat or large feral ferret......its a pretty big animal in as much as these front foot prints were quite wide apart........the nails were also extremely long. There is a colony of feral ferrets in the area.....but also a lot of mink also.......there are a few young rabbits in the immediate vicinity as a possible food source............your opinions would be most welcome!
  2. Let us know how many you get Richie...............last year I took 16 greys from one garden in a week........I had 5 on one day alone. Rolfe
  3. That's what i like too see Richie............brings a tear to my glass eye that does.........yeah right Rolfe.
  4. I tend to agree with OTC that to use "blind" tunnels does reduce the catching options somewhat, i prefer mine open at either end also. That said, I like the wire restricted entrance........lets more light into the unit if you are using bait at one end. If i use my double entry tunnels at a tree bases.......i just push one end into the tree base to leave the other end open, squirrels will enter the tunnel out of curiosity without any need for baiting, and find the Mk 4 sitting ready and waiting. Rolfe.
  5. Just looked it up...........A nest, nide, (nye) or bouquet.

  7. He looks the spitting image of one of my dogs.........he will be nearer the 23 inch mark i reckon....If he's a rabbiting dog you don't want em too big anyway

  9. Mk 6 Fenns for rabbits want setting in well used rabbit holes and they must be set within the overhang of the hole by law. This means keep them well inside the hole entrance. Bed them into the base of the hole, making sure there is enough room for the jaws to spring shut without hitting the roof of the hole. Cover with sieved earth so the trap is level with the base of the hole when completely covered. If you need to make room for the trap to spring....i suggest you take it from the roof of the hole and not the floor. If you have set the trap correctly no part of it should be visible and the h
  10. That looks really good Gollum.......you will only find out any major snags with it when you use it a few times.......but try it out and report back your findings..........it certainly looks as if it will do the business. Rolfe.
  11. In the UK Gerjan the risks and penatlies associated with not letting one go are much more dangerous. On release most, if not all, animals will be focused on getting away not on attacking you. If you stand well back and not between the animal and it's escape route there will be no problem. Quite right John...........i must have released hundreds of badgers from rabbit cage traps over the years and each and every one has trundled off quite happily.
  12. Do you know someone with a ferret ......?............you could bolt the rat out to the terriers for a quick solution!
  13. At a guess.........I would say a rabbit from Norfolk and a rabbit from Yorkshire would cover the same distance at exactly the same speed......... if my old hob ferret or lurcher was close on their Ar*se Rolfe.
  14. Rabbit Curry......take meat off the bone......seal in hot pan with some oil..........add jar of curry mix sauce what ever type you prefer........throw in a few chopped mushrooms........simmer for an hour serve with rice......uuummm delicious. Tika works well.
  15. Nice one C/G............whats the breeding in that one.........looks useful?
  16. are you sure on that? Obviously you're not...............you can read the same legislation as i can.........read it and you can come to your own conclusions. I answered the original post to state what the law says on the matter..... not to get into discussion on matters of interpretation. Rolfe.
  17. The risk from puddles in gate ways is a major problem with chemical spillage from farm sprayers as a major hazard to dogs drinking from it. Rolfe.
  18. I found this wasp nest last season in a roof space.........the crash helmet had been sitting on the floor and the nest had been built inside and all over it...........amazing. I put the picture up a while back.........but its worth a second look. If any pesters out there come across some unusual nests this coming season........please take some pictures so we can all share them

  20. As i understand it there are no rules "in law" that cover the setting of traps for small ground vermin e.g. moles, rats, and mice........as the traps don't have to be approved they don't come under the approved traps legislation. There is in my opinion an ethical rule though. Anyone can set a break-back type rat trap (Not a Fenn Type obviously) in the open without fear of prosecution........and that trap could just as easily kill a songbird or any other small non-target creature. So setting them where ONLY the target species is likely to contact them is an absolute priority in my opinion.
