It can be a bit challenging when the weather can go from this; To this; In a matter of minutes ! Cheers.

I don't think it's fair to compare the white hare and the brown hare. Totally different running ground and animal. I was lucky enough to be invited to the Cairngorms by Northernlite, and neither me or my bitch had ever seen a white hare or run that type of ground, but it was great to try something different, and definitely one to tick off the bucket list ! We did have a couple "pipe" into drainage, and we ran them on tracks, scree, burnt heather and frozen heather. It was great sport, just as running brown hares on arable is, but the rwo aren't comparable. Cheers.

Boiling it down to a minimum, we had basically three types of running dogs; the smaller greyhound type that ran hares and rabbits; the larger type that ran deer; and the big buggers that ran wolves ! Obviously, when wolves went extinct in Britain, it was pointless keeping and feeding huge hounds, so they died out. Deerhounds ran and killed or bailed deer, but then there was the invention of the gun, and Deerhounds changed to be dogs that tracked and held or killed wounded deer. The origional Deerhounds then had scent hound added, amongst other breeds. The greyhou

Morgan tried to destroy Cummings career when he " broke lock down rules", but got got all sanctimonious when his own son did it ! I guess it must be more important to show your virtue signaling to BLM, than to protect your child's health ? In Morgans mind, anyway ..... Cheers.

I have to admit, I do watch GMB, ( on +1, I'm not watching telly at 6 in the morning !), just to see who Morgan is ranting about or shouting over as he "interviews " them. I think he's playing a very dangerous game; attacking Boris, the government, Trump, the royals, especially Harry, but supporting any "woke" ,BLM or virtue signaller that pops up ! Has he forgot Diana and Dr David Kelly ? The "Establishments " fightback has begun; pictures of him dressed as an SS officer on line, Guido Fawkes website going on the attack; how long before his tax status is investigated, or his vi

The little 'un is Beddy/grey x deer/grey- whippet/grey; caught most things. The big 'un is pure Irish wolfhound; couldn't catch a rabbit in a 'phone box ! To be fair, it couldn't get IN a 'phone box ! LOL ! Cheers.

In not knocking anyone's choice of dogs. My post is just my own opinion, and a bit tongue in cheek . Its almost impossible to find a decent working deerhound these days, never mind a working wolfhound, but best of luck to the guy if that's their choice. I hope they keep us updated, it'll be interesting. Cheers.

I know the title says "Greyhound Wolfhound", but I'd guess they are "Coyote Hounds" with a mixture of breeds in them. They didn't look that impressive at the job, hard to tell on a video, but didn't look like any of them was keen to go for a throat hold, as Dan Edwards might describe as " pencil necked, ass bitin' curs " LOL ! Cheers.

The Remainers allways cry "there will be tarrifs if we leave" ! Well, yes, there WILL be tarrifs, but as the EU exports far more to the U.K., (around £90 BILLION more !), than the UK exports to the EU, they will suffer far, far more in tarrifs than we will ! It makes more sense for the EU to give us a good deal, the individual EU countries that export huge amounts to us will see that, even if the EU continues to try and punish us for having the audacity to leave ! Cheers.

Most aggressive dog I've had was a Manchester terrier, and he'd been castrated. Least aggressive dog I've had was a Doberman bitch that was spayed, Go figure...... Cheers.

The lurcher world is a VERY big place, with many variations to the game. I respect your opinion, and would never knock what another man does, that's their business, not mine. Ive tried just about everything over the years with my dogs, I got a deer/grey that took her first white hare at 8 1/2, and her first, (and only !), fallow at 9, thanks to being invited out by lads to try something different. I even had a day out with my 29" 80lb bitch running bolted rabbits on the Scottish hills, not her type of work, but, hey, why not ? By the way, she was running with two Beddy type

I'm not sure about this "beating and picking up isn't work " ! LOL ! Some years ago, me and LDR used to beat on a small shoot in Northumberland, and it was a shoot lurcher lads could only dream of ! Not only did they allow lurchers, but allowed us to slip between beats, as long as it didn't interfere with the shoot. £35 a day, breakfast, lunch , as many birds as you wanted to take home, and the first drink free in the pub afterwards ! Plus any rabbit, hare or roe you caught, and they positively encoured us to slip on foxes ! After a day like that on the Northumberland fells

Yep, can be very versatile dogs ! Did a bit of beating and picking up with my bitch; Cheers.

Looking for Bedlington Whippet breeders
chartpolski replied to Oscar Bellville's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
This "Beddy type" won shows, but was first and foremost a working bitch. Beddy Type classes are nothing new up here, she won the Beddy class, the Under 23" class, and best in show, 13 year ago. Shes still in my kennel now, at 15. Cheers. -
"They don't like it up the old el rondo, Captain Mainwairing ! " Cheers.

Pure beeds where would you be without them ?
chartpolski replied to juckler123's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Juckler, did you ever see the Ruweiss Salukis run ? I know some of the coursing lads discount them as show dogs, but I know they are, in part, from genuine Middle East stock, and they have Tepe Garwa and Durak blood. Hamad introduced me to Karen, and I know she brought at least one over from Bahrain, and her father imported some from Saudi. I haven't spoken to her for well over ten years, but I'm sure she won't mind me putting up a couple of pics of one of her dogs that won both in the show ring and the coursing field; Cheers. -

Put one of these over a pure Bedlington, and we might just start to get Bedlingtons back to the way they should be ! LOL ! Cheers. -
Pure beeds where would you be without them ?
chartpolski replied to juckler123's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
There may be a conflict of interests here ; if I'm out for a mornings sport, the hare gets decent law, and if it's a good race, I'm happy if the hare gets away or gets caught. If I'm out for one or two for the freezer, then the dog works off the lead, finds its own hare, and if it takes one out of the seat, good, I'm on and off the land before it comes on top ! Either scenario; happy days ! Cheers. -

I've been in the game well over 50 years, and believe me; the ego's, the lies, the exaggerations have allways been there......it's just the Internet has given the cheats, liars and braggarts a far bigger audience ! Cheers. -
Pure beeds where would you be without them ?

It was mainly fox we ran the times I've been there, and they usually, but not allways ran doubled up. I saw this lad run single many times and he knew his job on fox, but sadly didn't last long when he made the step up to boars. * Pic taken legally in Australia. Cheers. -
Pure beeds where would you be without them ?

Perhaps we forget in this age of supermarkets, take aways and relative prosperity, that the lurchers of years ago, to the Salukis of the Beduin, and the stag hounds and 'roo hounds of Australian settlers, were kept for a purpose; to provide food for the family ! Running doubled up improved the chances of a meal ! Just like the miners whippets were kept to put a rabbit or two on the table and then natural competition brought about racing, so the lurchers progressed to being run for sport and competition, but we shouldn't forget their original purpose ! Cheers. -

I can agree with that, but surely the Ibizan, Borzoi, Ridgrback, were as rare as the saluki to the australians, yet are all used in their hunting dogs ? Im not after an argument, or even a debate, I just found it puzzling that the saluki isn't more popular down there when the conditions and quarry seem perfect. Just my own opinion, we may get some of our Aussie members telling me I'm wrong ! LOL ! Cheers.
