  1. Here's a few pics of a couple of my old dogs from the 60's and 70's. They both raced and worked. Blue Prince, ( Blue Boy X Zarwood); Pot Black, (Darley Fly X Susan); Cheers.
  2. I've only been having a laugh on here, as I suspect Dan was...... but this has to be the daftest post, (unless you are taking the piss) !! How is a 24" more "versatile" than a 25" or a 23" ?? And "small dogs grow up to cloddy or slow " ???????? where on earth did you get that one from ??? Cheers. Charts your a fussy bugger. The lad had to pick just one height and chose 24 because it's around the height expected for a more versatile dog, I'm sure there's every chance a 23 or 25 would be versatile to but we weren't allowed 3 choices now were we? lol. The best rabbit dog I have ever
  3. Your deer/grey couldnt catch a cold ye silly old bugger i told ye once i told ye a 100 times deerhounds need bull to make them man ip or any good I didn't say she would catch loads of rabbits ! I'm a realist and know for a fact she will catch more rabbits than the imagianary dogs that most on here "own" !! LOL ! Cheers. You want me to ship you some of skycat's man butter over there for you to breed that oversized pencil neck with? See above post !! Cheers.
  4. Thats cuz that size is just silly talk along with cp's 29 inche BS. You keep this shit up, boy, and I won't come over there and show you how to run dogs !! Cheers.

  7. I'd say 22 3/4", as then you could show it in the "under 23" and the "rabbitting class" at shows and tell the judge how good it was !! I'm a bit pissed off as there isn't a 29" choice, as my Deer/Grey Pencil Neck will take as many rabbits as any other size dog ! There's shit 22" dogs and there's shit 30" dogs ............ !! Cheers.
  8. If my dogs cant outrun a whippet of any ped in a 1/4 mile race I'll shoot em all. You're not getting into the "rabbiting" are you Dan ... Please say it aint so !!! LOL !!! Cheers. I already got rabbit dogs ya silly old f****r. They just get a little tight in the belly after 3 or 4 of em. The Skycat pup looks well, but I'd sooner feed it for a week than a month !! Cheers.
  9. Get off the 'net , you cuni, and out with the dogs, and you may catch more !! Cheers.

  11. Ya Redneck, Hillbilly, Banjo Playing inbred !! Ya'll just looking for a good Whippet breed to put into them curs you run ! Give them some spunk 'n speed !! LOL !! Cheers.
  12. This little bitch will be eight this year, but i reckon she has got a season or two left in her !! Her breeder called by the other day, and I hope he was still impressed with her ! Cheers.
  13. Is it in "Lestershair" ? LOL !! Cheers.
  14. A one that can catch 'em up them mountains, and down them valleys, Bud !! LOL !! Cheers.
  15. How long is a piece of string ?? Lurchers are a "Type", not a breed. They range from, say, Beddy/Whippets to Deerhound/Wolfhounds ! The work they do varies from ferreting to deer coursing ! Then there is also how much work the do, what conditions they are kept in, etc ! So It's an impossible question to answer....or ask !! Cheers.
  16. At the end of the day; Greyhound is THE base breed for Lurchers. Just imagine Lurchers without any Greyhound in them ? Of course you could use Whippets, Deerhounds,Salukis as the base breed... but why have we used Greyhound for hundreds of years ? For the speed, of course !! The other breeds all add to the mix, but they'd be a sorry bunch without Greyhound SOMEWHERE in their breeding !! Cheers.
  17. I've seen three track Greyhounds suffer terrible injuries when tried in the field. One was a dog that his owner thought a run on a hare might "pep him up" ! It came back from a course with a broken toe, broken tail, split head and looked like it had been "unzipped" down it's spine. It was put down. Another was slipped on a roe, it's hock snapped like a dry twig on the first turn. It was put down. The next was also slipped on a roe, but it saved the expense of being put down; it ran into a tree and broke it's neck. The one thing they had in common was exterme speed. They were on
  18. Snoop, every time I slip a dog on a hare, I want it to kill ! Of course thats what it's about , but I was simply trying to answer the origional question ! Of course matches and single handed running had nothing to do with the demise of coursing, The Hunting Act. 2004 was the single thing that banned coursing ! Cheers.
  19. But the 2 dogs doubled up, we are talking about, wasn't about killing hares; and 5/5 meant nothing, it was about testing the dogs against each other, not against the hare ! Cheers.
  20. Conflict of interest there surely?? Of course !! That's why a decent Brief would have had it thrown out of court !! This was 40 odd years ago, things were a bit differnt then ! LOL ! Cheers. Aye, better to accept the £60 than remortgage on a brief....40 years ago, wasn't £60 a lot of dosh back then? More than my weeks wages ! Cheers.

  22. The people who hated coursing and wanted it banned, could see no distinction between one dog or two; or 100 yard slips and kick-ups ! So the fineries of the chase were lost on them in thier blind hatred of ALL hunting !! Cheers.
  23. I think there has allways been single handed, where the kill counts; and doubled, where the dogs performance against another dog is more important than the kill. Just different versions of testing a dog. The only thing that contributed to the sports downfall was "The Hunting Act, 2004" Cheers.
  24. Lurcher owners/breeders are after the "Holy Grail" of the running dog ; a dog with the speed of the Greyhound, the brains of the Collie, the stamina of the Saluki, coat of a Deerhound, the heart of the Bull, etc, etc !! The base breed of any Lurcher line needs to have Greyhound or Whippet or Saluki or Deerhound in it. Then it's a case of breeding "the best to the best" !! Or so they tell me ..... Cheers.
