The fawn one. I know the lad who owns both and he said I could use either one. The black dog is tremendously fast but the fawn one is the winner over a longer distance and looks a stronger type to use over my type of bitch. I haven’t decided to do a mating yet , I’ll wait and see. I’ll be looking at a lot of dogs over in Ireland in December, might be easier at my age to bring one in rather than breed a litter. Cheers.

Yes mate, they are, or were, they are around 7 now. The black one won the veteran scratch race at the Scottish Derby a couple of weeks ago in a faster time than the normal scratch races, and had been the fastest scratch dog for years, regularly breaking 8 seconds for 150 yards. The fawn one is faster than the black one when run over 270 out of greyhound traps. Maxs bitch bred from a non-ped champion and a lurcher is in pup to the black one, I don’t know of any dogs out of the fawn one. Cheers.

It doesn’t mate. It went to big. The limit for scratch racing is 55lb. Cheers.

Never heard him mention Salukis when I’ve spoken to him . He had the prefix Doxhope Deerhounds. He may have had the odd saluki but never seen him with one but pure deerhounds and deerhound lurchers are what he’s known for. Are you thinking of Rupert Slack ? He had deerhound crosses for years but I think he had coursing bred saluki types later Cheers.

Karen from Ruweis Salukis used to run in those comps; Cheers.

Lifting with hare and roe. Cheers.

Ashington or Bedlington, I get mixed up between him and Alan who lives where, but near enough no difference, I lived in a little pit village, East Cramlington in the same area, back in the early 70’s, a great area for lurchers and whippets . The Charltons brother, Sankeys dad and Doherty’s dad all had whippets, as did I. Cheers.
-
He asked me if he could use pics of my dogs in the second edition of his book and I sent him a cd of pics but the publisher said the pics had been compressed and they couldn’t use them. I used to run whippets on the same tracks as his dad many years ago. Cheers.

Strong Stuff; I was once selling collars , leads , couplings from a stall at the EDRD show, and Aaron was on the next table selling his stuff and I had two dogs lying in front of my table with his collars on ! LOL ! Cheers.

Yes. From a Billy Doherty in Northumberland . The sire to the one in the snow was Doxhope Knights Errant and he told me the two on the cover of his book “Deerhounds and Deerhound Lurchers “, these two; were her grandparents and the bitch , Doxhope Ambecky, which is pictured in the book jumping a gate, was the best working pure he had. Doxhope Knights Errant is the grand sire to the bitch I have now. Cheers.

I traced this half crosses ancestry on the deerhound side to when Miss Noble was allowed by the KC to add greyhound to her line , Cheers.

The old girl herself ; Cheers.

It’s gone a bit quiet, so here’s a pic of a working deerhound my pal sent up to Scotland to work with a golden eagle; Cheers.

Just brought an immediate flashback to the early 70’s; was sent on a job at Eden Valley over Carlisle way for a couple of days, I lived in Newcastle. Spent my allowance in the pub the first night and next day the boss visited the job, I asked him for a tenner sub on my wages, he refused so I got my coat and bag and started walking away, he said where are you going? I said I’m not working for a tight c**t like you, I’ll hitch a lift home and come in for my final pay on Monday ! He got his wallet out and said will twenty see you ok ? Halcyon days ! Cheers.

It was like council workers here in the Uk ; one digging, the rest standing around. I asked what I should bring , they said a cold slab of VB ! LOL ! Cheers.

It was their winter and a bit frost on the ground first thing, but warmed up quickly. Started with a jacket on then into shirt sleeves. I’ve ran dogs in hotter conditions in the Middle East. Cheers.

Mate, the Irish lads post pics and vids daily on my WhatsApp group, everything from rabbits to sika. They must be photoshopped ! LOL ! I took two lurchers over to Ballycommon in county Offaly and had a walk out with a lad who was master of the local beagle pack and we had no problem getting the dogs a run. Cheers.
