Max has still got stock from Splodge and Fettle, both Forley Cup winners, but he’s putting more and more non-ped blood into them to bring up the speed, although he did put one to a pure saluki. Cheers.

I know that, but I meant moving on from race dogs to coursing dogs. I know plenty , including myself, that started with racing whippets and greyhounds and got knowledge and experience from the old timers how to condition a dog. I doubt that many could simply get a running dog and bring it to the peak of condition at the right time without any sort of background in the game . Maybe some could, but having advice from the lads that have been there must be an advantage? Cheers.

I wonder if Alan’s skill and success with coursing types was somehow influenced by the way his dad and the men around him could condition a whippet ? He used to be on here, his opinions would be well worth hearing. Cheers.

Alan’s dad had non-ped whippets, I particularly remember one called Bucephalus, a very good dog. Used to race against them at Ashington area many years ago. Cheets.

I’m only on a bit of a wind up mate ! Ive had most types including pure Salukis and their crosses. I haven’t got any favourites, if I was an out and out day walker, I’d have a coursing bred, but I do most things and the Deer x suits what I do now. I think the days of walking the fens for hours and having 10-12 minute courses are gone now, it’s just not worth the draconian punishments, but get out of the way up the Northumberland fells or across the border to the hills and you can have great days out. I think most people hear “non-ped “ whippet and think it’s just a whippet

I’ve lead a less than sheltered life mate, as has my missus, she had many years as an expat and travelled, (and still does) , the world extensively even in her 70’s.
