  1. I've got 3 left that are just waiting for space in the chiller, the rest are gone. A couple were small but I just adjusted price accordingly

  3. Shepherds pie made with our own sheep. Lovely.
  4. Bit of a mixed bag what I do
  5. I've you've not Stalked before, and don't have to permission available to teach yourself, then some paid stalking might not be a bad idea. You'll learn a lot from a trip out with an experienced deer guide, practical experience is far better, in my opinion, than any amount of classroom based qualifications. My advice would be to find someone local to mentor you. Spend a season watching, learning and being their drag and gralloch bitch

Jay's wings still sell but i dont kill them so don't bother with it. I think coots and moorhens wings, one or the other anyway, are worth money too. Its just pence but I build them up over the year and it pays for a pub dinner with the other lads that do the same. I sell a lot of deer carcasses and it's a real shame the skins go to waste.

I still sell squirrel tails and magpie wings. Its a shame actual pelts aren't worth anything though
  8. I recommend them, they come in a complete range of shapes and sizes so they fit all types
  9. I've never used any kind of coat while they are out or working but, if the weather warrants it and they are wet or cold. I use equafleece jackets on them in the truck on the way home. It helps them dry out and warm up quicker. When we get back I take it off as it draws the moisture off so gets damp then they either sleep without or if it's proper cold they get a swapped into a dry one.
  10. My current lurchers are in their retirement now and I'm keeping myself amused with the bushers. Once the old ones shuffle off and make space I will be looking for another fast dog. Question is will I go whippetty cross to complement the bushers or something a bit bigger and able to do more? I'm lucky enough to be able to take dogs to work with me and got plenty of mooching ground on the doorstep so don't have to work too hard to get them out and about. I do miss the lamping though when the weather is right, like now. I shoot too, mainly deer stalking, so that keeps me out and about b

    Suicide

Sorry the hear that mate. Mental health is becoming a huge problem, especially for men. RIP
  13. I'm a great believer that food should be more expensive to improve quality and welfare but that's easy to say until you're struggling. Today's world seem to have greater expectations beyond what they eat, people treat phones, fags, booze, Internet, new clothes etc as if they were a human right rather than a luxury. Seen people with the latest iPhone in their hand filling trolleys with tesco value shit, I dont really get it. I read an interesting statistic the other day. Pretty sure it said that 50 years ago food was 40% of average families budget, imagine how impossible that would b
  14. I started out with a 8'x24' gneipol (?) basically a polish version of an ifor Williams flat bed. It's 3x2 timber frame clad in osb to stiffen it. If I was doing it again I'd use 2x1 as I've built alot of shepherds huts since then and it's plenty strong enough with the boards to give it structure.

    Rat bites

I got a horrendous eye infection I caught from my terrier. She'd been bitten in the eye lid and it blew up and went bad. While I was treating her I somehow managed to pass it to myself. It was terrible and still comes back every now and then. I'm very wary of rat bites now and make certain to wash hands properly after treating dogs
  16. The pigs booked in on first of next month, my share of a few that a mate has been keeping on mine, so that's coming regardless. The sheep are less urgent but i want to get them dealt with before winter kicks in properly
  17. I hope so. Ive got 6 more to kill over next few weeks and a pig .... im going to need another chest freezer. They are about 9 / 10 months so I guess would be hoggett?
  18. These are the first 2 of some that sheepchaser gave me. They've been helping clear some ground for me and never had any other feed. It'll be interesting to see what bramble fed sheep taste like. They don't have much fat on them so I will wait and see before I pass judgement

    The two we kept

Little update on the pups. The chocolate one, my wife's, is mainly a yard dog but is notching up a reasonable number of rabbits and squirrels. She's been trained to retrieve to the horse so the Mrs doesn't have to keep getting off. Mine is going well. No sign of recurrence from the hip and hunts well. Shes been on a few camping and canoeing trips over the summer and is a pleasure to have around. She catches a few rabbits, the odd squirrel and very keen on the rats now. I gave her a run on a rabbit on the lamp the other night and to my surprise she caught it. I'll be trying that a b
  20. I wish they were more prevalent around here. They are good eating and so convenient to carry compared to fallow.
  21. Fake Spyderco for £8 off wish.com for every day and a posh custom fixed blade for stalking. The every day one gets more use though
