  1. I hatched some from eggs. Raised them to 6 weeks in a chick ring and they never got tame. I built them a nice pen with everything they needed. I moved them into their new palace and the little c**ts took one look around them and immediately flew away into the orchard. Found the odd puff of feathers where they'd met the fox over next few days and that was the end of that experiment. Shame as I love the noise of them.
  2. Crack on mate, I dont have many heroes and happy to thin them out
  3. I dont understand why some people hero worship these idiots. The idea that anything is acceptable if you are "testing a dog" is bullshit in my eyes. Obviously you would do what you have to to get away if things went wrong but if its come to that then you've already f****d it up. Going out looking for that situation is nothing to be proud of.
  4. If they are anything like starlings you have the skin them first. The bitterness is in the skin. They were still pretty horrible though to be honest
  5. Yes but only on command. She'll sit under a high seat and watch deer for hours but if we are tracking a wounded one and it gets up in front of us I can ask her to pull it. The indicating is the best bit though, we can stalk through woods into the wind and she will scent deer and take me to them. She's pretty special, not the bravest or hardest dog but she seems to just know what im thinking. She's coming up to 12 now though and pretty much retired, I doubt I will have the same bond with another
  6. Genuine deer indicator and tracking dog.
  7. What the f**k is a 304 or a simp?? You make me feel ancient with your youth speak lol
  8. I've hunted a bit in new Zealand, a tiny bit in Europe and a tiny bit in Mozambique and Tanzania. I hunted with the masaii there rather than the hadza. I'd love to do more overseas but got rather bogged down here for the last while. Maybe one day ..... You sound like you have done some interesting stuff, got any good stories?
  9. I've never noticed you before but in the last few days, on several threads, i've noticed you've come across as a massive tool. Have you just discovered coke?
  10. It's chaos here, had to chainsaw my way out the yard, trees down everywhere, road blockdd, yurts blowing all over the campsite, its even blown a load of deer fencing over!
  11. Nothing exciting really, it the reception and shop to a campsite I build inside an old cow barn ages ago and the owner wanted it roofed in to keep the dust and pigeons out. It's being clad in canvas to look like an old American frontier building
  12. Pitching a roof within a roof
  13. I have a dewalt 18v one, it's OK at a push but not a patch on my petrol stihl. Also got the dewalt 18v polesaw which is excellent, I was expecting the chainsaw to be the same but was disappointed
  14. I get this alot. I'm older than SC but also managed to cram a fair bit into the time I've had. I think some people are just designed that way? I did a shit load of different things for short periods of time in lots of different places. It's a great way to collect cool stories and meet interesting people. The bit I find funny is that when I came home / down hardly anything had changed for everyone else while everything had changed for me. Interestingly I now live less than a mile from where I grew up and hunt the same land I did as a kid. Full circle i guess.
  15. Ignore the rubbish about harnesses. Recall should really be pretty well instilled by 7 months as its far easier the younger they are but can still be taught later. Just be aware that being that much older she will have more confidence so you won't be able to rely on her not wanting to be left do much. You will basically have to be far more exciting than anything else that may be distracting her. Therefore don't try and do it in a park with other dogs or people or anywhere with loads of scent. If she's into toys that can help as can treats. I'm assuming she's going to be a
  16. Maybe Egypt is an option, I'd not thought of that
  17. Thats the kind of thing I'm aiming for. She keeps going on about Egypt, it doesn't really appeal to me much. I'd like the history but reckon it'd be so busy with people it puts me off
  18. My missus and I have very divided opinions on holidays. She wants sun and beaches and I want to do stuff, ideally hunting but fishing is usually easier to arrange. Last time I won and we went to nz and had a great time with lots of both. This time it's her turn so it's going to be a beach somewhere. Anyone got any recommendations of places where she can lie about cooking herself on the beach and I can squeeze in a day of something interesting so I don't die of boredom and sunstroke?
  19. I've only read half of this thread but it's quite scarily pointed out how many f***ing wrong uns are posting on here. Anyone defending him, or any other filthy scumbag, just because he can kick a ball should be hanging their head in shame. Same goes for the argument that it's ok because it happens all over, if that's true its because of that attitude, to me that's a reason to change the attitude rather than slide further down. Some of you are a f***ing embarrassment.
  20. I'd have staples in the skin there I think but hard to tell 100% off a picture, stapled wounds heal faster and don't scar so much so I'd always rather fo that that leave it open. The staples are only in the skin though. I've never had much to do with stitching so can't comment. If its a puncture into the muscle underneath I'd flush it but if it were deep I thought there was any chance of debris in there it would be a vet job.
  21. I'd want that flushed and stapled personally. If you don't know how to do it vets the easiest option
  22. How about a little busher moocher type thing? Less stress all round and can do all sorts of bits with them. I have fun with mine.
  23. Why not get a dog that suits the ground you've got?
