Maybe to you but not to everyone. Tools can be replaced no problem, they are all the same, but the years of work and training you put into a dog are priceless. I suppose it depends what you want your dogs for, if your standards are low, or you only use a dog as a point and slip so dont need them trained then maybe they can be replaced but thats not dogwork to me.

Had a similar incident last year. We were visiting my wifes family in Plymouth and went for a walk sunday morning with her two step sisters, 9 and 11. We went to a walled park, it was lovely weather and the park was full of mothers and toddlers and .... flocks of sleeping feral pigeons on the ground They were obviously used to dogs wandering about but not to our dogs, all three of the dogs piled into the flock and the terrier caught one as they flew off. He landed, gave it a vigorous shake and retrieved it straight back to me There were clouds of feathers blowing all over the park and the

I suppose its a question of priorites. Only the man himself can decide. The most important thing is to ensure the pup is looked after, if he cant do it then its better off elsewhere. Personally i wouldnt move the pup on just because it no longer fitted in with my lifestyle. I would do whatever it takes to provide for my family and maintain my dogs. My wife is at uni full time, I work long days, spend one day of the weekend working on the new house and the other hunting plus whatever time i can get in the evenings. We manage to keep 4 dogs, 5 ferrets and the hens, its hard work and tiring b

I've been using a plastic tool box, with a ply divider and internal doors, and seatbelt strap for a couple of seasons now. It works well, i've put air holes in and had no problems with ventilation, if anything they stay alot dryer in wet weather.

He's going really well for you mate! We'll have to get out sometime soon. ATB

Im fed up with work, im a chippy, spend an hour each way in the van, never ending money on tools, parking etc, work in town and the money is not even that good anymore. Im thinking of retraining or at least changing the kind of work i do to something more rural that fits my lifestyle better. So im looking for ideas. I trained and worked as a keeper years ago but not too keen on that or pest control. Dont want to mix up my passion with my job. What do you do, or wish you did, and advantages and disadvantages please?

Two lurchers and a pup, the pup is a bit early really as the other two are only about 3 and 4 but the older bitch has had such trouble with injuries i wanted something ready for next season. Plus a terrier to flush to them. I am bushing every weekend and in the week when theres enough light after work plus ferreting and lamping a few times a week in the season. It seems like alot of dogs but still find theres times when i havent got a dog fit for what i want to do, hence the new pup. They can be a headache though and they're not cheap to run!

Will do, have you set a moving date yet?

Its just inexperience, the more prsctrice he has the better he will get. From what i saw the other night he just needs a little more confidence in himself to use his mouth, nothing wrong with the way he runs them though

An accurate description i think lol The tool box, as you call it, is a hi tech ultra modern ferret transport solution! Waterproof too! I have to admit though, if it did contain a magic lurcher repair kit it would be bloody handy for my line of glass lurchers LOL They do say "Its only the good ones that break!" Whatever you have such little faith in your dogs there is a long net behind them Pot ... kettle How many Dougie caught this season? More than willow and you said dont rush him Mr Mentor Only messin' and you have to know what you

Years ago I worked with a couple of lads who did this regularly for mullet bass and mackerell off the beach. Im interested to hear from anyone that does it, the legalities, mesh sizes, techniques etc. I've recently moved to the coast and it sounds a good way to spend the summer nights ATB

Ive not posted much recently as we've just moved house, got masses of work on, had no internet for a bit, been busy building kennels etc and dealing with my new pup i picked up last week. Very hectic month! Heres a little of what i've been up to. I bought a pup out of the litter bred by sussexpoacher, firstx collie grey over linebred lurcher bitch. I've been umming and arring over a puppy for ages as my main bitch is not old but beset with injuries, when i saw this litter they just seemed right. I saw the pups from four weeks and after much deliberation, several visits and a bit of bushing

Have you run any of the above or are you voicing an opinion based on too much talk on here? I cant speak for any of the other crosses but i run a jrtxwhippet with good results, not so sure what a boxer would bring to the mix but i can certainly see potential advantages in using the right labrador blood. Retreiver crosses were fairly popular in days gone by and although they are not in fashion now i cant imagine them being all bad or they wouldnt have existed at all? In reference to the 3/4 lab cross in question try PMing labsnlurchers on here. She bred a similar litter a year or so ago, ma

I'll get Amy to find out the dog i rang Amy about has been rehomed now to a police dog handler it was red with white feet a real stunner pity i didnt have room or it would have been back with me Glad you found somewhere for him, if its a working home im sure he'll be up to the task
