  1. Im after some recommendations on hunting books. Not so much UK ones as i've got or read a fair few of them but anything hunting and dog related from other parts of the world? What've you got or read thats good?
  2. I hope you're joking otherwise it sounds like theres something seriously wrong with you
  3. I know none of the dogs or people discussed in this thread so i've no axe to grind. I have to say im amazed by grown men getting their handbags out in public?!?!? What makes you want to discuss this stuff including names on an open forum? If the dogs are as good as you say then you have nothing to prove, no need to bite its only the internet! Thats my two penneth worth, happy hunting to all
  4. Looks like a couple of good nights Its nice to see some actual hunting topics being posted, the seasons been a long time coming!
  5. We did it for our wedding. Cooked a lamb, a fallow and a roe. We did have a jcb to dig the hole though! The meat was amazing, really tender and tasty
  6. Dont know what happened to the pic but i've put it back on the original post now. Heres a few pics of the usual suspects for you lurcher lass
  7. Thats a shame mate but at least you've given him a fair chance to prove himself and a good home even though he failed. Theres not many people out there who'd be as honest. Good luck finding the right bitch
  8. Well done mate, its good to have the numbers to go at
  9. I know what you mean.. Someone posts a picture of a bull x with feet like a seagull & you get 20 pages of 'Nice dog mate', then another 20 pages of bitching and arguing... the feet like a seagull bit had me choking on my tea, love it!
  10. Cheers lads, apologies for the strop it just wound me up. Lurchermania - my bitch has had a long catalogue of injuries. Shes a daredevil and just dosent care what happens to her as long as she catches! That sounds great but shes 3 1/2 and not worked a full season without injury yet, shes missing a toe, legs scarred up, cost me hundreds and put me on first name terms with most local vets and bonemen! At thid moment in time its a torn shoulder muscle so nothing too serious. TBH shes a bit of a liability. Im thinking of getting a new puppy over the next few months to bring on for next
  11. Lol ... a post about actually going out and it gets no replies? Maybe i should do one called "howta catch dem foxis" or "lets see you dogs for dis season" that seems to get the most interest or maybe the old favourite "bull x, lets see um" Laughable!
  12. Went out for a couple of hours tonight with assasingirl and Blackstaff off here. AG ran her jrtxwhippet, Parker, and BS had the two pups he bred, bullxwhipgrey, Tod and Pearl. As usual my bitch is laid up so i was lamping The weather was perfect, wind and drizzling. Parker damaged one eye at the end of last season and has limited sight in it. We've been out a few times since and hes struggled to connect, he ran them well but kept missing his strike so i was starting to worry. He was back on form tonight missed the first one then caught two one after the other, caught the next one in c
  13. striker and amber filter with 17ah battery in a rucksack. The battery is heavy but lasts a long time, its 10 times better in a rucksack than a shoulder bag, thats my tip for the day!
  14. Is it so wrong that the he wants a hobby by himself without involving his wife.....? If your the kind of person that wants to spend every minute with your other half then good for you but some people are different... Fair point, i might have been a bit harsh. Didnt he say that he'd asked her to come out with him though? I thought the main issue was with the colour of gun she wanted which seemed a bit sad to me? Maybe i got the wrong end of the stick, its happened before and im sure it'll happen again On a more personal note, between her work, her uni, my work, the horses, the dog
  15. Im in the process of moving into the area and have seen alot of fishermen fishing in the mouth of the river and off the wall. I have virtually no experience of that kind of fishing but i like the idea of it. Does anyone have any information on it? What gear, what you'd be trying to catch, bait etc? Cheers

  17. Your bird is showing an interest in your passion rather than being jealous and stopping you going out, is that really such a problem?!?!?! My wife had a go with the airgun years ago and now has her own rifle, runs her own lurcher and enjoys a days ferreting now and again. Shes probably taken more game that alot of the macho wannbe hunters on here. She is also very involved with horses which has led to tons of extra permission. Pull your head out your arse and give her a bit of encouragement.
  18. Its on her rear left and its the second toe in if you count from the ouside. She had the claw removed from the third toe in at the same time to prevent it catching as it was very exposed. So far im happy with her progress, it dosent seem to affect her movement and she seems unaware of it. She even caught a rabbit a couple of days ago when being excersized with my wife, supposed to be on the lead but pulled away. Im just concerned that its not standing up to so much road work which will interfere with getting her fit. Is there anything else i should be doing?
  19. I've never been to one but sussex longdogs run coursing days, is that any use?
  20. My bitch had the middle out side toe off on a hind foot several months ago. Prior to that she was out of action for over 4 months with a seperate injury. I have waited until the stump is totally healed and furred over and im slowly bringing her back to fitness, lead walks leading up to bike work and lots of long ball retrieves up hill. Her feet are looking better and she is filling out a bit but she's developed a blister between the remaining toes. Its not affecting her but i dont want it to get any worse so im resting her her a few days until it heals. Is there anything i can do to promot
  21. Thats right EVERYONE MUST THINK AND ACT LIKE A KEEPER. If your keeping birds then having stoats about is maybe a problem, if not then they dont cause any harm and are more likely to cause some good. They may be vermin in certain situations or certain places but thats a ridiculous basis for eradicating them on site or not trying to save one if found. Good sense there, a pest is only a pest when its causing a problem.
  22. Heres mine, Ollie, a big mongrelly terrier. Certainly not the best bushing dog in the world but gives me a lot of fun and keeps the lurchers busy!
  23. They are amazing looking dogs. I was in Turkey last year and saw several. The dogs in the mountains were 10 times the dogs you saw chained up in town, really lean, mean and huge! I have no doubt they would make excellent hunting dogs crossed with a running dog but i cant see the point. We live in England, even if it was legal to hunt all species here a dog that size would be, IMO, excessive unless you were planning to specialise in red deer. I think people get carried away after seeing posts from other countries where their quarry warrents that kind of cross.
