  1. Really? ... 9 or so dogs running what is basically a dropper being boxed in with the motors and when they catch up to it they cant even pull it? Nice enough dogs but handlers are pricks, same shit the world over. If that was a hare over here half this site's members would be spitting their dummy, funny how its ok when its not in your back yard
  2. Personally i would opt for the air rifle. I have both and seldom use the shotgun. It will all depend on the quarry and terrain you're shooting on and whether you plan to sell on the game. None of my butchers will touch shotgunned rabbit but will jump at headshot ones. If you are planning to use it alot the cost of ammunition will come into the equation too. I just wish we had enough rabbits to shoot! Its hard enough finding enough work for the dogs as it is without shooting any!
  3. Im addicted, simple as that. Nothing beats working in partnership with a dog you've brought up, trained and cared for. Before the lurchers i had a gundog, when he died i lost interest in shooting as it was only something that allowed me to work my dog. With lurchers i no longer need a gun and get a huge kick out of their versatility. They are a lifestyle, most things i do revolve around the dogs or working the dogs. You could say im a pusher as now my wife is as hooked as me!
  4. u will need to stay out of feilds with horses then oh what about cows think they would make holes to so u cant go there either waht about sheep oh u better stay out of there u could go to golf courses then oh f--k sorry forgot about where the ball goes get a dog with decent feet atb Nice
  5. One of the daftest threads ever, a non hunting related thread complaining about non hunting related threads?!?!? Somebody has too much time on their hands. The funniest thing is that its run to 5 pages, alot of genuine hunting threads dont get that long ... funny old world
  6. Its bad round here, Sussex, too. Got plenty of permission just no rabbits! Out four nights in the last week, walked alot of ground and only had 6 in total. Its not poachers here, a mixture of mixy, VHD and hard weather i reckon.
  7. You certainly get out there and do it! well done mate
  8. Nice one mate, we did ok the same night. Three out of five slips and could have run more but Tyla tore a dew claw so left it at that. Tried that LED torch i told you about last night too, half hours mooch and one in the bag for Parker. I reckon im going to have quite alot of fun with that torch!
  9. It was a good day. I wish it was too late OR too early it, we've been plagued with it this year. It dosent even seem to have stopped with the snow!
  10. It was a good day mate. Pearl is coming on in leaps and bounds and Bill is alot more useful than alot of adults i know! You missed out the bit where he caught the rabbit in his hand as it went past the mouth of the hole! I dont know who was more surprised, him or the rabbit! The look on his face was priceless! The pictures came out well, thanks for a nice day out
  11. it's a sad thing to have happened, but f**k helping those c**ts in any way shape or form, hopefully they waste a fair bit of money looking for the scum who did this, but arent the ones who find them. Really? Personally i'd rather they spent the money, caught the pricks and prosecuted them. Thats what they are there for, why they were invented, it would make a nice change from persecuting us. Your attitude shows why the general public see us as heartless b*****ds, because, unfortunately, some of us are
  12. This is a very good thought provoking post. Most of my hunting has been in the sussex and kent areas, ground is pretty good although some places are flinty and theres plenty of barbed wire around. Usually there are fair numbers of rabbits, but seem to be very hard to catch, but we've really been struggling with mixy the last two seasons. Almost too many deer though which sounds great but is not ideal sometimes. We certainly dont get the huge bags that seem to be possible in some areas but thats maybe coz i stick to permission and try not to stray too much. My one experience of the dal
  13. Your all f*****g mad, mad as a box of frogs! Im sure you could get a row going on here by stating the colour of the sky! Its good that the OP and RFYL have sorted something out after their rocky start but it cracks me up the number of people who've jumped in feet first just to bicker! Mad, mad as can be LOL ATB to you all for the new year and the rest of the season!
  14. We work a mixed pack of lurchers and terriers. Anything up to a dozen dogs, about 50/50 lurchers to terriers. There are advantages and disadvantages. Its great to see a pack that work together, anticipate each other, work as a team etc. You get some amazing sport, if theres plenty of game on the ground it can be action packed. The dogs benefit by learning to work as a pack member rather than just an individual and to be able to socialize with other dogs on the hunting field. They also learn off each other which is nice to see. Its some of the most exciting hunting for me, its fast and fur
  15. They look like they're coming on beautifully Penny. You'll have your hands full come next season! ATB
  16. Are you lot for real? Read the pinned section, its not rocket science
  17. You might be right there mate You're not exactly speaking from a position of strength yourself though, are you ... "brownie points"?
  18. I always assumed you were an old man Tyla. Oh well....... LOL, not sure what to make of that!?!? Im not as young as her and she's a little older than she looks but no, not an old man yet!!! No1 Jibber - thats very kind of you, i wouldn't like to compare but she's just right for me
  19. Yep, that she is charlie bull x Wardyuk, the pup is firstx collie grey over a well bred lurcher to lurcher bitch. She was bred by sussexpoacher on here, i think he still has a couple left. I cant believe they werent snapped up straight away, very nice puppies.
  20. Glad to see you lot are enjoying the pictures of our day out, and im glad you all approve of my wife
  21. He's a great worker, works cover well, but not too great at bushing though thick cover due to his size and we have a terrier to do that job and he they work really well together. Ferreting is his forte.
  22. My wife does the lot, runs the lurchers, ferrets, shoots, lamps. No problem pulling necks but cant get her to gut anything. Shes even got her own account on here "assasingirl"! LOL This was her first kill. long tima ago now
  23. Where are you based? I recommend finding someone near you who knows what they're doing and go out for a day with them. Make sure its someone sensible first though. There is no better way of getting a dog to hunt than having with watch other dogs at work.
