  1. I lamped my terrier on rabbits once. Both lurchers were laid up and the weather was perfect so i thought i'd give him a go. He caught one but its certainly not the way to get big bags. He tried his heart out but hes just not built for speed! Stick to running dogs for lamping i think.
  2. Im sure he'll do fine, fells a bit put out by the young'un, he just doesnt back down! Deffo up for a day out in the season, if your dogs are ever healthy! hear you've been having troubles again hope they/he/she heals quick! ATB Molie Lol cheeky beggar! Its only one of them that is such a liability, the other two are fine. With any luck she should be back in work in a couple of months, maybe it'll calm her down a bit - less of the dare devil antics! Good luck with the pup, keep us posted
  3. Nice mate, hope she does well for you. I hear Fell did well recently too. We'll have to get out for a day next season
  4. You lot could have a row over whether it was day or night IMO it all depends on the terrain, whether the quarry's been run before and on the dogs running style. I have known dogs that make roe look easy but couldnt touch a hare and others the other way round. This is hunting, animals are individuals and no situation is ever identical. There are no hard and fast rules so what is the point of arguing over each other opinions?
  5. Not as impressive as yours but my first on a plug.
  6. These could be quality pups, good luck with the sale. If they turn out anything like my wherrier the buyer will not be disappointed
  7. Foxes, urban or rural, are only a problem if they cause a problem. I like to see them about but near my chooks or the release pens or, in an urban setting, raiding bins etc then they got to go. I cant see the harm in them if they are not actually causing trouble but if they are then its zero tolerance.
  8. Im good mate. Like you say its been all work, work, work. Cant complain, im saving up the pennies for plenty time off in the season! Dogs are half way ok, Parker is back in full effect but Tyla has done another toe so it'll be a lazy summer for her. Speak soon
  9. Beautiful pics Hannah Brad, long time no speak, your pups have come on alot since i last saw them. They're a credit to you. Catch up soon mate
  10. Im sure records are kept for the same reasons over here on the deer. Im not a deer stalker but im pretty sure there is a system for grading heads with the larger or better quality heads being silver or gold medal heads. The best place to ask would be in the deer stalking section, you'll get the full info on there. I dont think many record kills of other species unless perhaps in a game book. The small game we have here foxes, rabbits, hare etc dont lend themselves to being made into trophies although, usually with colour variation, some will preserve skins. It would be interesting to
  11. It looks like you had a good trip, our honeymoon was in turkey and i talked to a few locals about hunting. Never got the chance though, the missus had other ideas!
  12. Ive always enjoyed your posts up to now, why have you suddenly decided to try and incite arguement? In answer to your question, i believe records of deer trophies are kept but we dont have the big spectacular game you have which lents itself to trophy hunting.
  13. Everything you need to know is in the catapult thread in the gamekeeping section. Its very long but well worth the read. I read it when it was first put on and made a catty. A couple of years and hours of practice later im now reasonably competent. They are more than capable of humanely killing small game but you have to be accurate and that means practice, practice, practice. I take mine everywhere and wouldnt be without one
  14. Thats one of the best posts i've seen on here, expressed perfectly. Well done that man
  15. Of my three one is from working and two from non working stock. All of them work but the one from working stock was alot easier to enter and had more drive from the start. Whether this is true in all cases i dont know. How about breeding from working stock thats is bred from non working parents?
  16. Welcome to thl. Im afraid i cant help with your problem but im sure someone will. Try posting in the health and training section as well. I've had some good advice on here and im sure you will too
  17. Try ebay, you want 12v 10amp/hour lead acid or 17amp/hour if you do long nights. Also buy cigar socket extension, and fuse from halfords and then wire it up yourself. Job done!
  18. Been waiting a while for my bitch to come into season as i want to take a pup from her. She came in today so its looking good for summer puppies. I have never bred before, does anyone have any good advice for me? Thanks
  19. Three, 23" bitsa bitch, 21" jrtxwhippet dog and a mongrel terrier dog. Im seriously thinking of breeding a litter as i've spent the best part of this season with both lurchers laid up
  20. Finally worked it out then I knew i should have come ratting instead of stalking, let me know when you go again. Was Mabel knackered on sunday, Ollie certainly was.
  21. I have done it years ago. We used pine cones soaked in creosote to empty a big bury which had more holes than we had nets. As far as i remember it worked but never done it since.
  22. Seen them advertised but not heard of anyone actually using them with the dogs. A good review is worth a thousand adverts!
  23. Pretty much any cross thats been well bred, well looked after and well entered. The saying about making a silk purse from a sows ear is true but so is the one about only getting out what you put in.
  24. We've had both the lurchers from pups and i trust them 100% but the terrier we got at 7 months and hes been hard work. I cant break him to ferrets no matter what i do but hes fine with all other stock and most cats. He did kill ones of my wifes hens though after ignoring them for a year just decided to do it one day - little shit. He didnt enjoy the repercussions and hasnt looked at them since but i still wouldnt trust him out of my sight. None of them are broken to pheasants as i dont mind them grabbing them when they get the chance but sometimes they can take it too far. I just keep them
