plenty of pup's online mate but be prepared to wade through a lot of shite. took me a while to get what I wanted but there is good one's. make sure they're worker's good luck?
Give me the skimmers any day. but my type of ferreting is very different to yours. strictly strolling about part time compared to you but still enjoying it ?
I have never owned a collie x but like the dogs of GT pest control on YouTube. I believe they are a mix of collie, whippet, greyhound they can certainly do the job.
scruffy doesn't get you laid back either. my little mutt has great recall and obedience but once on something I haven't a monkey's trumpet of stopping her.
some say it's missing rabbits I call it leaving for another day. but for me these days it's not about numbers it's enjoying mooching. if it's pest control people are doing I understand its different.
that's my kind of ferreting. being a freelancer I don't want a Ferret to stay. I like them to bolt or leave them. no good for some but best ferrets for me.
always had a pocket of nets & a small jill in a bag inside my jacket. found even a small box bulky plus the noise of Ferret scratching. like you the spade has always been a problem.
its the best size net for night netting. they mean 4/1/2 inch on the diamond. Point I am making is all their other stuff must be 2 inch. which is 4 inch on the diamond not suitable for all round netting.
I see rabbit fever on ebay are now selling what they call the sportsman's basket system. it's a 2/1/4 inch mesh fifty yard net. in what they are calling our new cumbria style basket. it looks exactly same as nelsons system who's baskets I believe are designed by lifelong Cumbrian on here. nothing new about 2/1/4 inch mesh. I can only assume that there other nets are 2 inch mesh which is too small for alround netting.
your right they are all different. my old beddywhippet would go to 1 hole and prick her ears and cock her head to one side. this young bitch (21 months) has been marking solidly since 10 months she will show interest at 1 particular hole then move around a few more and always goes back to original hole and marks strongly. when I started ferreting many years ago we used Russell's for marking found them excellent but beddywhippets seem to be natural markers.
I think a lot of false marking comes from shouting dog over to holes and pointing to holes for them to go to. I have always found the dog will work the holes occupied itself let the dog do it's own thing.
the beddy genes do seem to throw strong. I have seen Bedlington x border pup's and Bedlington x Russell pups. both litters looked like straight beddy at 8 weeks old.
