Cheers, I've a pretty good idea how long they can get, I'm curious as to how quickly they grow and how long it takes them to get to full length, can't seem to find any meaningful informaion on that!!

I realy don't know a whole load about these, see them from time to time but saw one yesterday approx 18inches (45cm) long, and it got me thinking. How old would that be, surely to big to have been born this year, but how long do they take to reach maturity (full length)? Any ideas? Cheers

Thats the clincher then, I'm convinced!!!!!

Best bullet to try in Howa 1500 .243
Deker replied to Fellman Mark's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
It has been said many a time, you WILL have to try a few to see what works best for you, and what works best on your intended quarry. Whilst .243 is used for target it is primarily a hunting tool, so you need to decide on quarry, distance, terminal performance as well as accuracy (perhaps price as well). You may find two or more ammo types work for differnt distances/quarry! Just because one ammo works in someone elses Howa it doesn't mean it will work in yours. For example, my .308 Rem 700 is fine with PRVI 150G SP, but a pal who also has a .308 Rem 700 can't get better than 4" groups!! -
I don't think to many people would argue with the fact that cats may well have been released in the 70's and early 80's (perhaps earlier for all I know). There must have been escapees over the years as well. Big cats tend to live between approx 10-20 years in the wild. So anything seen early 80's to 2000 will be dead. The question is simply down to breeding now, have any of the very small number out there historically met and bred, unlikely is an understatement.

This is a Roe I was called to deal with back in 2010. It was a mess but I skinned it just the same to look at the evidence...what did that????

Work all year in my experience. I tend to use peanut butter rather than peanuts in traps. Peanut butter also works for smearing on branches/bark!

Glad the FX is performing, they usually do. Heartening to see the X Trail still going strong, worst thing I ever did selling mine and buying a Land Rover!

Very flat out to about 150-200 then they drop, also lose energy fast as they are so light. I seldom need to take fox at Loooooong distance but if I'm out after the deer and see a fox a long way I'll pop in the 55g. They don't suit every 243 just the same with the twist. Majority of my foxes are WELL UNDER 100 yards, a few 100-150, less 150-200 and very rare over 200. I know the 55g 243 pretty well out to 250, but everything needs to be right. No doubt some will say they shoot further and of course you can, but I VERY rarely need to, and also like to be confident what I shoot at will

55g is available, fortunately I have someone who reloads them for me, don't use many just the same......... 58g would be similar!

Scopes get very personal, so does the reticle and magnification used, as long as you can see clearly at the distances you want it's down to you. There is very little kick on the HMR so you don't need anything particularly rugged, air rifle scopes can be fine but many are parallax set for 100 max so be careful. I have to agree with other comments here, if your primary use is fox at 100-150 yards that is stretching the HMR, I would be looking more at Hornet or 222/223. The HMR is probably my primary Fox tool but I do a lot of domestics, certainly I'm very confident with the HMR (17

A picture of a Vet holding a Big Cats proves nothing, except it is a picture of a Vet holding a big cat, why would I need to travel anywhere to see that, and which part of that proves Big cats are roaming the countryside in the UK? Just get it through your head that I am interested in this, and have been close to a couple of situations I don't fully understand, but I try to look at it logically and weigh up the information/facts, I dont scream Big cat!
-
None of that answered any part of the question/s I asked!
-
Ok humour me, I know nothing of this..... ...so a vet was pictured holding a Big Cat, which part of that proves Big cats are roaming the countryside in the UK? What happened to the Big Cat after it's meeting with the Vet, please don't tell me it was released into the countryside?! Do your best to respond with facts and avoid insults.

Years back when life was simple I had a lot of dealings with Windsor Safari Park and I could have helped myself to virtually any big cat doings or fur. Any test would have confirmed it was real!
-
You have a very closed mind but have produced ZER0 hard evidence. Anyone who questions your comments gets insulted. Of course there have been escapees, and years back several may well have been released into the wild, that doesn't mean there are breeding populations out there now. If I found one I would shout from the rooftops and broadcast the fact to the world, I simply don't understand the mentality of those that insist they exist and allegidly have evidence, keeping it a secret. This thread is stupid, I dive in from time to time and NOTHING has changed, I suspect if I left
-
Whats that got to do with Big Cats in the UK???
-
So why don't you go away and come back when you have some REAL evidence of Big Cats currently in the wild in the UK? That way you wouldn't have to be bored yourself, insult anyone and could put all the sceptics in their place. What is the point of this thread continuing and simply repeating intelf???
-
So, dead bodies and photos, so why is the debate continuing??????? If we had a real body and real DNA the media would be all over it, after all they are happy to show pictures of cardoard cutouts and domestic cats regularly. Don't give me any more about people keeping it secret, if there was REAL proof they would shout from the treetops to vindicate their position and put the sceptics in their place!

Nearly 4 years and 350 pages, anyone seen any proof yet?
