  1. The Game Fair 2021 - Festival of the Countryside
  2. It's never the cheapest, but its usually the best...FREE if you are a BASC member! I hope its ok this year, some exhibitors may be nervous, so who knows!
  3. ????? Seems you've done all the working out you're interested in!
  4. 11.5ft lb or 28ft lb (or more), you are talking limits, and when you get to the limits you will not be accurate all the time. 28ft lb of .22 air certainly has the terminal performance to stop a rabbit at 100yards, but the pellet is subject to so many forces reacting on it out to those distances, setting aside the guns repeatability and the operators experience, it is seldom a shot to take. My 25ft lb Falcon and 30ft lb Theoben both in .22 have a 40 yard zero. Both of my .22LR have 60 yard zeros and my HMR and WMR have a 100 yard zero, all my centrefires have a 200 yard zero.
  5. That looks like a bit of work, but the result looks good to me!
  6. I assume a centrefire at those distances, so you will need some reasonable glass and reasonable engineering. I'm not sure what your definition of budget is if you intend to spend more than a Sidewinder. They are ok budget scopes, but can get a bit milky at high magnification. Magnification is very personal, 8x does me fine out to about 300-400 yards, but I know people who use 32x at 100 yards!
  7. I use the Wildcat P8 Compact on all my centrefires, but I have a feeling times have moved on a bit. The Compact is smaller and lighter than the normal P8 and it does give decent sound moderation (and its easy to strip/clean) but there may be equally good smaller and lighter moderators these days.
  8. I know I'm a bit late to this but, many of the torches these days are pretty small and light, certainly MUCH smaller than some lamping kits of old. I think someone else mentioned it, but I always use another torch for scanning around, much quicker and easier and more convenient, also maintains the battery power on the rifle torch!
  9. I have lots of different grounds so not to bad for me, but is is a frustration the height of some crops.
  10. I can but hope that is simply a batch issue, not seen that before!

    Grass Snake

Cheers, I've a pretty good idea how long they can get, I'm curious as to how quickly they grow and how long it takes them to get to full length, can't seem to find any meaningful informaion on that!!
  12. Well, looks like it's on, set for the weekend after 19th when restrictions due to end!

    Grass Snake

I realy don't know a whole load about these, see them from time to time but saw one yesterday approx 18inches (45cm) long, and it got me thinking. How old would that be, surely to big to have been born this year, but how long do they take to reach maturity (full length)? Any ideas? Cheers
  15. Thats the clincher then, I'm convinced!!!!!

    1 Jab or 2

Who knows, frankly nobody yet, but indications are 2 jabs do help!!!
  17. It has been said many a time, you WILL have to try a few to see what works best for you, and what works best on your intended quarry. Whilst .243 is used for target it is primarily a hunting tool, so you need to decide on quarry, distance, terminal performance as well as accuracy (perhaps price as well). You may find two or more ammo types work for differnt distances/quarry! Just because one ammo works in someone elses Howa it doesn't mean it will work in yours. For example, my .308 Rem 700 is fine with PRVI 150G SP, but a pal who also has a .308 Rem 700 can't get better than 4" groups!!
  18. I don't think to many people would argue with the fact that cats may well have been released in the 70's and early 80's (perhaps earlier for all I know). There must have been escapees over the years as well. Big cats tend to live between approx 10-20 years in the wild. So anything seen early 80's to 2000 will be dead. The question is simply down to breeding now, have any of the very small number out there historically met and bred, unlikely is an understatement.
  19. This is a Roe I was called to deal with back in 2010. It was a mess but I skinned it just the same to look at the evidence...what did that????
  20. Work all year in my experience. I tend to use peanut butter rather than peanuts in traps. Peanut butter also works for smearing on branches/bark!
  21. Glad the FX is performing, they usually do. Heartening to see the X Trail still going strong, worst thing I ever did selling mine and buying a Land Rover!
  22. Very flat out to about 150-200 then they drop, also lose energy fast as they are so light. I seldom need to take fox at Loooooong distance but if I'm out after the deer and see a fox a long way I'll pop in the 55g. They don't suit every 243 just the same with the twist. Majority of my foxes are WELL UNDER 100 yards, a few 100-150, less 150-200 and very rare over 200. I know the 55g 243 pretty well out to 250, but everything needs to be right. No doubt some will say they shoot further and of course you can, but I VERY rarely need to, and also like to be confident what I shoot at will
  23. 55g is available, fortunately I have someone who reloads them for me, don't use many just the same......... 58g would be similar!
  24. Scopes get very personal, so does the reticle and magnification used, as long as you can see clearly at the distances you want it's down to you. There is very little kick on the HMR so you don't need anything particularly rugged, air rifle scopes can be fine but many are parallax set for 100 max so be careful. I have to agree with other comments here, if your primary use is fox at 100-150 yards that is stretching the HMR, I would be looking more at Hornet or 222/223. The HMR is probably my primary Fox tool but I do a lot of domestics, certainly I'm very confident with the HMR (17
