  1. The HMR has obvious haters and obvious lovers. I don't deny that I am in the plus camp, it is a tool that has its uses and works for me in the right circumstances, just like every calibre I have. It is not for everyone, and just like SD I have a WMR which I also rate highly, I additionally find areas where the HMR excels for me!
  2. The 17g V-Max does the business in the heart through the ribs, or the chest or the head. A long time back I gave the 20g FMJ (it has a tiny hollow point) a try, shot a fox side on (it was only about 30-35 yards I seem to recall), it ran off for the best part of 100 yards before it dropped, fortunately a big open grassy field. The shot went clean through like a spear with no expansion that I could see, must have hit soft tissue all the way through. That was the end of that ammo in the field, the 17g V-Max works for me.
  3. The HMR delivers the goods constantly in the right conditions, if the conditions are not right I either take great care or use something else, so I tend not to have bad days! Just the same, very good days as in the picture are rare, I'm easy with 1".
  4. You will get, and hear all sorts of responses, …... On a still day mine delivers 1" at 100 yards quite easily, on a good day I can bring that down to about 0.5 inches. Hornady 17g V-Max. This was a particularly good day and I bottled out of the 5th shot. Edit, obvious slight scope adjustment required!
  5. The police have a mind of their own, there isn't a yes or no answer here, but I would doubt there will be any problem.
  6. I have never been quite sure if they are one and the same, but whichever way you look at it there is a very strong relationship!
  7. As many have said you do not need a DSC to shoot Deer. The detail about selling shot deer into the food chain is debatable but the guidelines suggest you can in low number if it is not a business, but it would be useful to get the food hygiene anyway (either by itself or as part of the DSC). More and more people/organisations are asking for a DSC before they allow you on their land, this is simply some sort of arse covering exercise, but it's up to them of course. The police often appreciate a DSC or even demand it before granting Deer/calibre. I was bought up with access to d
  8. 222 is sweet as they come and tends to be rather accurate. 223 is more common today and just has the edge on .222, but the difference is marginal. The .243 with a 55/58g V-Max is an absolute pussycat to shoot and accurate as they come with the right barrel twist. It has the edge all round on the other 2 and I consider it the best longer distance fox calibres/ammo. Everyone situation is different, it isn't just the calibre/ammo its about your circumstances/environment/distances/topography/etc/etc. A calibre/ammo is only the best choice for you, someone else may find a different

Personally, I don't give a fig (I know I should), and I was bored with this 2 days ago!!!!!! What on earth is the fuss about, it must be a slow news day, if he is guilty he should face the appropriate penalty, and in his position it would seem appropriate to resign as well, (embarrassing to say the least for Boris now), if he isn't then this is a non-story!!!!
  10. The Original concept of Bore Snakes many years back, was for Shotguns, to give the bore a quick once over when you finished shooting before you cleaned them properly. Back then a lot of cartridge propellant was pretty corrosive, nitric acid usually, the corrosive element of cartridge propellant has been much reduced over the years. On that basis …………….."a couple of swipes of a bore snake after every time you let off a couple of shots before it goes back in the cabinet then give it a proper clean after every twenty or so ", ............….will get rid of any surface crud but is no substitu
  11. "1" shot at each distance as in video is irrelevant. It really tells us virtually nothing. I have never seen my HMR as a Loooooooong distance rifle, it will deliver comfortably for me out to 100-120, but I have taken shots to 150-170 in the right situation. I've actually tried it a 600 yards at Bisley, I eventually got it on the target but this was simply an exercise of course. If I know I am looking at distance shooting the HMR is not one I would take out, but I still find it very useful and its definitely staying for me!
  12. Thanks for that, I never knew Edgar Bros were the importers, but to be honest I am not impressed with the latest formulation of the stuff at all, so more than happy to seek an alternative!
  13. Back then it worked well, the formulation was changed some years back now, it even smells different, and is nowhere near as good as the old stuff. I don't know why they changed it, probably Health and safety issues, who knows, but I am disappointed with the new formulation. I don't know if anyone has any other recommendations, that Eliminator I got above does seem to work well, and quickly! Does anyone also know for sure if the Hoppes#9 bore cleaner is no longer made, a RFD told me they had stopped production, but they are likely to tell you anything!!!!!
  14. I hate bore snakes and use rods (Dewey on the HMR) brush, mop and Hoppes #9. Never could get on with the Bore foam. My latest Hoppes (Industrial size) is almost done, and was never as good as early stuff anyway, and I'm told it's no longer made??????? I got some of this stuff on recommendation, rapid compared to the Hoppes!
  15. One thing of course, sub sonic (Quiet) HMR doesn't exist as far as I'm aware, sort of defeats the point anyway, so a straight trade of a .22LR for a HMR will leave you with noisy all the time!
  16. I have .22LR, HMR and WMR, and several CF etc! For me they ALL have a place, there is no doubt there are areas of overlap, sometimes big overlap, but each comes into its own at times. Personally I'm easy with the HMR out to 150 yards, maybe a tiny bit more but this will generally be the exception for me, more like 100-120 yards which I'm very comfortable with. Out to about 100 yards the 17g V-Max HMR flies flatter but very similar to a 30g WMR V-Max, the WMR then drops off a bit faster. The HMR has a bad reputation in the wind, but despite this it is BETTER than .22LR, and th
  17. Agreed, the Copper deposits are there but certainly not as bad as they are in Centrefire, not as fast/hot as I said. I've actually been really busy with work, then taking the opportunity to do some decorating and loads of gardening. I am apparently a Key worker (Pest Control and H.A.D. Team for the Police) and lots of work, the fox cubs are all showing up in peoples back gardens now so lots of calls about them, etc, etc! ATB!
  18. As I rather think both myself and Sausagedog implied cleaning is unlikely to cause any problem. Cleaning improperly/badly/over zealous rodding/etc may well cause damage. I totally accept the tiny HMR bore is difficult and must be treated with great respect when cleaning or damage may well occur.
  19. Dirty or not, the vast majority of HMR and WMR are Copper coated, and whilst not as fast (hot), on the whole as most centrefires, they will leave deposits inside the barrel. I cut my teeth in a Competitive target environment and almost certainly clean my guns more than most. Despite comments to the contrary, destroying a barrel by cleaning to much is almost impossible, cleaning badly/improperly, may well cause issues! I have cleaned barrels for my entire life, ALL my rifles shoot true and straight and do so immediately after a clean as well. There are varying views on cleaning,
  20. I didn't ask, see what more I can find out if/when I'm there next. I notice you list as Oxfordshire, the property is in the country near Oxford, are Bee Gone based in the area?
  21. How about this one, a domestic/small country estate I am very familiar with and have done all sorts of work for has Honey bees in the chimney, they have been there donkeys years and the chimney has been thoroughly blocked for many years as well. The owners asked me to deal with it more years ago than I can remember but I declined and put them in touch the British Beekeepers Association. Nothing happened until now. I returned to the property for other work yesterday and found scaffolding all over the roof and chimney and upon enquiring if it was for the Bees I was told yes. Looks
  22. Anyone know how to save the profile picture of a contact on Whats App to phone galley please. This used to be simple but seems software updates have changed everything. I have checked online but I'm struggling. Many thanks.
  23. 7.62 x 51 NATO L2A2 I have 400 rounds in usual green plastic trays of 50 each, still sealed (full plastic covered) in Ammo box (to be included), I actually have a few more but its the 400 box I'm interested in. This is the last full box my club has after a purchase of 6400 a while back, they are surprisingly good as anyone who knows these will testify. I understand RG no longer offer 7.62 and I can't find any sort of price for them. Can anyone suggest a sensible price I should offer these for please? Reason for sale is simple, our Club 7.62 has been replaced with a .223
