Further to my previous thread Rapid 7 Mk11 FAC .22 a week or two back! I now have the gun, my region excelled themselves with a Variation in under 2 weeks so I collected it today. I have the gun as a result of a family tragedy , it is totally legit but the person who transferred it to me knows nothing about it. Few questions if you can help, what pressure are you meant to pump up the bottle up to please, its 400cc, does it just unscrew and self seal??? The mod appears to be held on by a grub screw but on taking it out the mod still seems firmly fixed,

Most of mine are Canada geese for pest control, most commonly with the WMR (on the ground). Despite popular opinion, selecting the right one does make a very pleasant meal!

As per the title. I have a chance on laying my hands on the above, I've not seen it but know the owner and it has had limited use and been looked after. What are the issues that develop with these, it could be circa 20 years old, other than the obvious visible things I need to check what could be lurking underneath? Thanks for your help. Cheers

Thanks everyone, a few areas to try then!

Can you help please? I need a new brass hammer spring guide, any idea where I can get one? Many thanks Deker

Am I being racist if I say I think that's very clever?

I rather expected that, and I'm not lecturing anyone, someone got out of bed the wrong side today, you need to read my posts for what I said, not what you think I said! I didn't assume anything, I made a qualified statement "I suspect I have probably used far more calibres than you". You really need to calm down, it was you who said "I tend to favour one of my 204s over any grimfire"
-
Just like I said...………… Tools for the job! Calm down, it is true that I have never owned a .204, but I have used one several times and been out with a pal who owned one many times (he is also in the Team GB Squad). I suspect I have probably used far more calibres than you, both in the field and on the range, and try and keep abreast of anything new. If you want to use the .204 for rabbits or target practice for fox, that's your choice. My light hearted comment.....You don't need a .204 for rabbits unless you are shooting them in the next county is correct, and backed up b

I knew someone would say that!

Tools for the job! The .22 has it's uses, so does the WMR, HMR, etc etc I don't follow....."I tend to favour one of my 204s over any grimfire". Rimfires offer a lot of versatility, and many find them very useful. You don't like the HMR, your choice, and the .204 is a rather marmite calibre, seems people love or hate them, fact is...………. You don't need a .204 for rabbits unless you are shooting them in the next county, a bit of clout doesn't mean it's the best tool for the job, otherwise people would use their .308 for the rabbit and this "can" happen, whilst it may look l

This goes back some years and is obviously American but still makes for an interesting read! https://www.chuckhawks.com/compared_17HMR_22WMR.htm

Absolutely, obviously under gunned with a WMR against a squirrel!!!!!! ??
-
I don't shoot many squirrels with my WMR, or HMR thinking about it. My WMR almost exclusively runs on 30g V-Max, and my HMR on 17g V-Max. Certainly there are times when the HMR goes clean through, but not to often on rabbits (depends where you aim and distance I guess) and even less on fox (VERY RARE, actually I can't remember it ever happening). For quarry I use them on I find the expansion of both is pretty good, and terminal performance Very good, once hit with the HMR or WMR next to nothing runs off! Remember the HMR is a bit faster than WMR.

In the early days several firms made HMR ammo but they slowly dropped out to the point where everyone was saying ONLY CCI make HMR ammo, so I asked them, admittedly this was a while back now and things may have changed, but apparently they don't make the Winchester!!! > From: cciexpert@ATK.com > To: Me > Subject: RE: CCI Ammo - Ask the Expert Form > Date: Tue, 29 Oct 2013 17:37:40 +0000 > > Deker, we don't make Winchester 17HMR ammunition and there may others.

The HMR has obvious haters and obvious lovers. I don't deny that I am in the plus camp, it is a tool that has its uses and works for me in the right circumstances, just like every calibre I have. It is not for everyone, and just like SD I have a WMR which I also rate highly, I additionally find areas where the HMR excels for me!

The 17g V-Max does the business in the heart through the ribs, or the chest or the head. A long time back I gave the 20g FMJ (it has a tiny hollow point) a try, shot a fox side on (it was only about 30-35 yards I seem to recall), it ran off for the best part of 100 yards before it dropped, fortunately a big open grassy field. The shot went clean through like a spear with no expansion that I could see, must have hit soft tissue all the way through. That was the end of that ammo in the field, the 17g V-Max works for me.
-
The HMR delivers the goods constantly in the right conditions, if the conditions are not right I either take great care or use something else, so I tend not to have bad days! Just the same, very good days as in the picture are rare, I'm easy with 1".
-
You will get, and hear all sorts of responses, …... On a still day mine delivers 1" at 100 yards quite easily, on a good day I can bring that down to about 0.5 inches. Hornady 17g V-Max. This was a particularly good day and I bottled out of the 5th shot. Edit, obvious slight scope adjustment required!

The police have a mind of their own, there isn't a yes or no answer here, but I would doubt there will be any problem.

Before I make a twát of myself...

I have never been quite sure if they are one and the same, but whichever way you look at it there is a very strong relationship! -
As many have said you do not need a DSC to shoot Deer. The detail about selling shot deer into the food chain is debatable but the guidelines suggest you can in low number if it is not a business, but it would be useful to get the food hygiene anyway (either by itself or as part of the DSC). More and more people/organisations are asking for a DSC before they allow you on their land, this is simply some sort of arse covering exercise, but it's up to them of course. The police often appreciate a DSC or even demand it before granting Deer/calibre. I was bought up with access to d

222 is sweet as they come and tends to be rather accurate. 223 is more common today and just has the edge on .222, but the difference is marginal. The .243 with a 55/58g V-Max is an absolute pussycat to shoot and accurate as they come with the right barrel twist. It has the edge all round on the other 2 and I consider it the best longer distance fox calibres/ammo. Everyone situation is different, it isn't just the calibre/ammo its about your circumstances/environment/distances/topography/etc/etc. A calibre/ammo is only the best choice for you, someone else may find a different

Personally, I don't give a fig (I know I should), and I was bored with this 2 days ago!!!!!! What on earth is the fuss about, it must be a slow news day, if he is guilty he should face the appropriate penalty, and in his position it would seem appropriate to resign as well, (embarrassing to say the least for Boris now), if he isn't then this is a non-story!!!!

The Original concept of Bore Snakes many years back, was for Shotguns, to give the bore a quick once over when you finished shooting before you cleaned them properly. Back then a lot of cartridge propellant was pretty corrosive, nitric acid usually, the corrosive element of cartridge propellant has been much reduced over the years. On that basis …………….."a couple of swipes of a bore snake after every time you let off a couple of shots before it goes back in the cabinet then give it a proper clean after every twenty or so ", ............….will get rid of any surface crud but is no substitu
