rimfire CZ457 SYNTHETIC
Deker replied to Rimfire Rifles Freedom's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Now there's a thing, my CZ rimfires are all 452, and other than playing with the trigger on the HMR and WMR (the .22LR is fine and original??) I'm more than happy with everything they do!! I don't find they have any shortcomings for field work, the 453 wasn't the greatest upgrade, but I have little experience of the 455 or 457, can someone tell me what I'm missing? Cheers!! -

Magtech 7022 Semi Automatic Rifle. A closer look. - YouTube Not exactly a technical review, but a guy who like the Magtech!!! -
FAC application, some help and advice please
Deker replied to Steviec's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Could be they do add it automatically now (in some regions), I've always included it in renewals so its always been included on FAC. It certainly should be an automatic addition, but I take nothing for granted with renewals! -

The CZ are good in semi, so is the Anschutz. Many years ago now I decided a semi 22 would be useful to have and after a lot of research I got one of these. A Magtech 7022, it's the same gun as the Mosberg 702 (or was then) but a LOT cheaper. Out of the box (actually no, I had already added the swivel studs), front/rear sight removal followed, I had originally intended to use the open sights as it was supplied but found my eyes needed a scope! This really is cheap as chips and very light, I have nothing but praise for it, much more accurate than I could have ever hav -
Last used Phostoxin and Talunex about 10 years ago when the regulations around them got very rigid. Never had much use for them anyway, are they still about??

Many years since I used Stingers as well, but I seem to remember the arc was like falling off a cliff anything much above 60-80 yards, have they changed/improved? Energy and speed retention were not exactly great either, actually general accuracy in my .22 (and many other peoples) was not impressive either, probably why I stopped using them!! -

I suspect so, your FEO should really bring it up anyway! -

We always used to add ZEROING as well! -
Is it the scope??? Many cheaper scopes have issues with engineering and dialling in is where it commonly manifests itself. Other than for wind, there should be no need for left/right adjustment when dialling in, you should only need up or down, if the scope is mounted straight!! Make sure scope is bolted on firmly as well. Pellets have been mentioned, always worth trying others and particularly size variations as well.

All done, many thanks!!! -
I rather think that in some older guns they MAY have a use, but with modern technology (guns) and manufacturing processes my personal view is, not required!!

...the change in the very latest PCP is incredible to, my Falcon and Theoben Rapid seem very old now!
-
I have just finished a Pigeon, Pest Control job on a school site in conjunction with another Pest Control company, they specialise in netting. Job finish was a cull, other guy had an early Wildcat, my word, how the PCP market has changed/improved since my Falcon of 20 years back, just the same, he didn't shoot any more than me and paid about 3 times the price for the gun!!! I have to say my Falcon is reaching end of life, and even though I have just acquired a FAC Theoben Rapid, best part of 20 years old as well, I really need to look at the new breed of PCP. Can't help cringing

That's interesting, weight wise they sit between the Air Arms Field and Bisley Magnum I use in my FAC. I run around 25-26 ft lb and find the Magnum a tiny bit heavy, so these may be good. Are they still available please? -
Air, all the rimfires and shotgun, don't have any flintlocks or Hushpower! I find the Kania works well to!
-
Now there's a thing, all those years back when I first got a shotgun I was told I must use snapcaps, I was never impressed, then I got some expensive metal jobs (I thought the cheap plastic ones were the problem).........then I found it was Snap Caps that were the problem!

I was about to say the same, all of a sudden squirrels everywhere!

Tikka .223 always used to be available in 1-8 or 1-12 twist, mine is 1-8 and does fire a good range of bullet weight well, but I run mine almost exclusively with 55g, either V-Max or SP, most generally the PRVI SP. Works for me, but you will need to try ammo to see what works best in your barrel and on your quarry!

Commercialised deer stalking Scottish highlands
Deker replied to Stone14's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
You seem pretty keen, but are also darting about all over the place with threads about this shooting malarky. It would be a mistake to look at a DSC or a paid stalk as a route to your first FAC with an Open ticket! -
Flippin 'ek WILF, I think its time to put this to bed!!!

FAC application, some help and advice please
Deker replied to Steviec's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Anyway, back to the topic, nothing to stop him applying for everything on the list as long as he can show why, if/when asked! I wouldn't suggest running out and buying all of them day one if granted just the same. Start with a .22LR and decide where you want to go after that! -
FAC application, some help and advice please
Deker replied to Steviec's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I hear what you say, BUT!!!! FAC AIR (a decent one) will cost a lot to buy, at least twice (maybe 3x) the price of a .22lr. Ammo for a .22LR is available from circa 30-200ft lb, which gives it much more versatility that FAC air. FAC Air, particularly higher powers, needs a lot of Air, so you need bottles and refills, and FAC AIR Bullets, and some slugs are not that cheap. I totally agree that FAC Air can be/is more accurate than some of the ammo available and workable in a .22LR, but only in the newer/better/more expensive FAC Air. Hence why I have Air, FAC Air, .22Lr, HMR, WMR et -
FAC application, some help and advice please
Deker replied to Steviec's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
You certainly have a wider selection than me right now! I've probably got about 10-12 different types of .22LR, and a handful of shotshells and Longs, that it for me!
