  1. Some reverence please ..... James PURDEY & Sons...
  2. I think not, what makes you think this...there are some (many) shoots where they are frowned on, but nothing illegal...you can perfectly legally shoot a game bird with a rifle if you want as well!! Im a keeper on a grouse moor and carry a gun in the line when there;s to many birds left at the end of the season. i used to carry my auto untill two different knowledgable head keepers told me this. You can only shoot game with a rifle if you have it down on your cetificate. You can only shoot whatever it says on your FAC, but there is nothing illegal about shooting a game bird with
  3. I'm not specifically aware of any "shortage" of any calibre at the moment..proably just the usual slack attitude of many RFD, ...........forgot!!

  6. Snipper..."interesting" to see you back...I seem to recall you had £4000 worth of "Rizzini" last time you turned up...hows your mates Wingshooter, Guevara Etc, Etc????
  7. Calm Down.... Calm Down.... Calm Down all...bottom line is, I will be very surprised if the owner allows shooting to continue on this land...which is a very pleasant and productive piece for rabbit, fox and deer.....so looks like I may have a little free time..... so wether you be in Somerset, Devon, Essex, Gloucestershire, etc, etc (or closer to Berkshire) I'm available to help.....
  8. Is the CZ 452 American good I am thinking about getting that or the CZ 452 varmint? What calibre do you have? I have a... Silhouette .22LR Silhouette .17HMR American .22WMR and just bought my lad a..... Style .22LR Think that says it all from my point of view about CZ rimfires....the Varmint has a heavier barrel, no interest to me but down to individual choice/requirements!!
  9. Hi jaime...I'm a little confused as well, don't forget the Silhouette & Style with Full length and 16 inch barrels are now available in HMR>>>>>I got a full length Silhouette in August, probably the first in the UK, prior to this I was a bit of a fan of the Sako Quad Synthetic HMR but I have to say now, the difference between the 2 is hard to find, and I could no longer bring myself to suggest the Quad is worth nearly twice the money...don't get me wrong...quad is good, but I just can't see it is worth the difference in any way!! Anschutz is the proverbial brick shithouse..
  10. NO... Do not recommend it, certainly has the "power" but no margin for error, shot placement is critical, now we all know placement is important regardless, but @ 17g and only .17inches this round it tiny, it has devastating results against some quarry at some ranges but I for one would not buy it as a fox gun. Does it stop foxes...absolutely, but definately not my first choice. I rate the .22WMR, at around 70ft lb more than the HMR with a 40G HP, it arrives with far more knockdown power and does the job out to 150 yards on the fox with ease. For foxes further out I would suggest
  11. Just had a call from one of my landowners who has found one of his cows shot dead (head)!!!! He called to check if I had been up recently and fortunately in this instance I had not been to this site for about 10 days.....then he says he thinks he knows who it was, apparently he lets another guy shoot there sometimes for a bit of fun (news to me as I never knew of this fellow), "he's not a professional like you..." says the owner to my relief...... but then it becomes apparent that it isn't going to make a lot of difference....it has happened!!!!!! The farm in question breeds and sells
  12. I have read a bit about the finfire, am i right in thinking they no longer produce them? not that i will be buying new. Also, what are the advantages of a short barrel and if i find a good gun with a longer barrel is it straight forward enough to have it shortened and is it expensive. Im aware of the importance of a good scope, the one on my air rifle is rubbish so I know whats on my xmas list. Cheers. Finnfire went out of production about 3 years ago, but a VERY slim chance you may just find a new one on a dealers shelf somewhere, not many used ones about on the whole as owners
  13. Coming to this one a bit late and not read all the responses but it's not a matter of sticks or no sticks ...it's a matter of "Do I need Sticks for this Land" I have a selection of different height Bipods and will always utilise anything else sensible for support when I am out. I don't have any, nor do I really have a requirement for, any sticks. YES, there are times when I could definately have used then and could not take a shot because I didn't, but trade this off with carting them around all over the place for the occassional shot and ...."I can always shoot it tomorrow" comes to
  14. The lower the power the bigger the arc so placement as well as terminal ballistics present problems. 6-8ft lb air rifles are not designed for hunting whatever the manufacturers may call them, or say!
  15. This debate will go on forever and there is no answer anyway as the original question makes no mention of usage! If you want target work there is no debate, .177 every time! Conventional wisdom is that for hunting you use .22, there are still loads of arguments around this, and there always will be! The .177 hunters will argue their case vehemently as will the .22 hunters! Simple fact is the majority still use .22 for hunting...but that doesn't necessarily make it right...after all the "majority" voted in this Government as well!!

    hunt

There is no simple answer, let me try and cover it quickly and as simply as possible. First off I do not know this pellet but it is VERY heavy for a .177. Actually it's heavy for a .22 as well. In an air rifle the GUN provides the power, conventionally up to 12ft lb, whatever pellet you put in will effect this power to a small extent as pellet weight, shape, BC all have an effect on the efficiency of the pellet to carry energy!! In a cartridge rifle/shotgun the cartridge itself provides the power not the gun, and there can be some VERY wide differences in power in the same rifle.
  17. CZ Rimfires!!! I now have 3 in different calibres (actually 4 as I have an additional one on my cert at the moment for my lad)!! I have been fortunate enough over the years to use a great many variations of rimfires and currently I see no reason why I will, or should, ever require more than a CZ!!
  18. Check out the manual, it gives advice on bolt servicing or check CZ website, and this lot probably help to!! http://czowners.ipbfree.com/index.php?
  19. Defra ...BDS...etc...etc...seriously prefer the heart shot.....my Game Dealer prefers the head...lets not go there!!
  20. 14 out of 15 Ran at Least 20 metres.... I think there is a message there somewhere!!!..and it isn't about a bigger hole!!
  21. Toys for boys..very limited use but whatever floats your boat
  22. OK ...the answer is almost guaranteed to be yes! Wooden stock more likely than synthetic, but any time you do this you need to check the zero, but it should be very close if you have done everything right!! I have a T3 Lite (Synthetic) & T3 Hunter (Chipboard by the looks of it ) and never had any shocks after strip and rebuild!!
  23. I only have the one .177 and it is a BSA Magnum pistol, so not necessarily representative but it loves Bisley Premier which I make 11.27g, but there seems debate between about 10.6-11.28g
  24. I had one of the Nikko 4.5-14x50 a while back which I considered good value for money and is now on my lads air rifle. Just got him a new .22LR and he is after the Nikko Night Eater 4-16x50 for that, so will be watching this one with interest!!
  25. Feeling better now?? Yep... not perfect, one of those nights... ...... 2 rounds wedged together up the breech gets described as a jam in this part of the world!! ...and to save your blood pressure going off the scale I'll be out practising again tomorrow!!
