If you are out to 250-300 yards I would consider a 200 yard zero. Mine is 200yd with 55g HP (easy for me to zero as I often shoot Short Siberia 200 yards), this is 1.4 inches high at 100 yards and around 8 inches low at 300. So, if you are 100 zero you have a lot of drop to contend with by the time you get out to 300yards!!

Out for a stroll with foxdropper Saturday on some cracking Wiltshire countryside, loads of Hare about (you have to forgive me for getting excited, but never see them in Berkshire), few bunnies and deer and a handful of foxes. We were lucky with the weather, a little gusty at times and a hint of drizzle but on the whole a dry, mild and clearish night! Half hour in and one ran at us like an express train to the call, but I think it caught my Bipod click and just seemed to disappear! We caught fleeting glimpses of one or two more and then foxdropper saw another which he called, and I

Open forum, and everyone gets a say, but it does always surprise me when people make such statements...I've NEVER had a problem with a .243 and NEVER had a runner with my .223 on legal deer either!! and................243 was designed for vermin like foxes ok.... and the 5.56/.223 (at around 600/700ft lb LESS) was designed for the army to shoot people with!! Just another opinion to consider!!

Litts has gone tits up big time..please don't mention that name, it brings back VERY bad memories of the money they stole from me and many others!

Applying For A SGC With Northumbria police.
Deker replied to snipper's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I think you best go away and think again...within the space of a few hours you change your mind form SGC and a ground anchor to FAC/SGC and making your own cabinet........ Lets have a look so far............................. 1. Hi All, I am new to the world of Shotguns, I have only previously owned air guns/rifles. I was going to purchase a good air rifle again. However I have quite taken to the idea of Clay pigeon and also game shooting. I was wondering what Northumbria expect in the way of Gun security/cabinet or cable lock etc for a single semi-auto gun? and also the timescal -

Thanks, do you have any pictures of a required Ground anchor and the required cable/lock? or can you use one which is for anchoring a motorbike? and also can you use a brick wall inside your garage to fix a cabinet too? or must it be inside your house? thank you See.. Appreciate the point you are trying to make but the law is the law and all regions have the same requirements under it...they just interpret the law the way they want to!! A single shotgun (actually 2) may be legally held with a ground anchor...NO cabinet required! But you will find just about every force will be happier with a cabinet!! -
This is a pretty common problem with rifles, centrefires in particular as a lot of the Moderators tend to be quite fat. As already suggested this is probably reflected light from a mod or perhaps the barrel. Lots of possible solutions, angle the lamp up a bit, use a dimmer switch, try a filter on the lamp, sling the lamp under the barrel, or to the side (but this can cause distance problems), cover the scope/barrel with non reflective material, black insulating tape over the bottom of the light lens, flip up scope cover UP on objectice lens, etc etc, some or all of the above will "prob

Strange one this and not sure where to put it but been playing recently......fresh cropped chestnut (straight from the trees) with soft pith, collected it from about 4-5lbs of chestnuts. Blend down in the liquidiser with as little water as you can get away with...soaked a white hand towel and shirt in the mixture for about a week, turning daily to get even coverage, came out looking messy and just off white! Rinse thoroughly then put through the washing machine and everything comes out a permanently dyed, and even, mid brown colour!! Please don't ask me why I did it...just had an idea

The chart is all to do with some sort of Bullet Drop programme called a DROP-IN-SATOR , apparently different calibres need different "sleeves"..no idea what it's all about..just ignore it..the charts can be useful though!! Very useful however there is an assumption there within the chart of the feet per second to give the quoted results. However all rifles will give a different reading feet per second wise, even with identical bullets. If you home load that could cause quite a discrepancy in minute of angle calculations dependant on the the amount of powder behind the bullet, not to me

.22 rimfire use, safety and limitations.
Deker replied to yorksjt's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well, if it was a mile away it was indeed unfortunate, this just illustrates the point though, any accident or fatality with a gun is terrible but fortunately they tend to be few and far between...Due Diligence!!! -
I doubt it... edit from above Hello. My name is Chris and I'm your moderator for the duration of our journey. DO NOT Post any rifle tuning information. None. This is our most frequently debated rule. I don't doubt for a minute that your intentions aren't the best. I don't doubt for a moment that your gunsmith skills are anything less than A1. The issue is that this advice can, and may, be taken and used to turn legal air rifles into unregistered firearms. This forum is regularly visited by our opponents and this information could be re-presented in a courtroom or a newspaper

Hammer Spring perhaps but this should not give "recoil" although it will make cocking harder! BUT 12ft lb guns do NOT have Heavy duty Hammer Springs

Hi guys Problem with the .22LR in pretty much ALL it's forms is that it "can" ricochet; hard ground, soft ground, water, stones, wood etc, etc, etc, it "can"...and I agree it is a frightening sound when you hear it whing away god knows where...backstops whilst always important will not help if it wangs off at 90 degrees to the original shot so it is important to be mindful of the whole area when using them. Tremendous amounts of energy are usually lost in ricochets, but there is often more than enough left to do substantial damage. It is a problem to be aware of but hopefully not to -
then what do you call a .416 barret You call it a .416 Barrett. In this case the .416 Barrett is the name of the round. .50 cal Barrett is not the name of the round. It is .50 BMG (Browning Machine Gun). SS Think I must have missed something here.... See ..even old dogs like me learn...NEVER heard of the .416 Barret round but there most certainly is a .5 Barrett round!!! https://www.barrettrifles.com/store/web/p-9...-80rd-case.aspx

In addition, don't forget the local restaurants..not your Harvester/Beefeater type..proper restaurants, I supply game direct to some and what I see thrown away in the kitchens BEFORE cooking is frankly obscene!!

Don't know them...I'm happy with my .22LR and centrefire mods but I could do with something that does a decent job on the HMR and WMR...so what's the options??? Cheers!!

You should in principle NEVER shoot any rifle in an Upward direction!!! Debate!!! No such thing as being over cautious..the choice is yours when you pull the trigger nobody elses!! .22LR does have a tendancy to Ricochet, the bullets available to reduce the chance of this are known as HMR and WMR..or centrefires!!! -
A Night on the lamp (Thank you)
Deker replied to sully5328's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Yep...that will do it ..dimmer switch or....... Red filter..that will take a good 200 yards off the range!!..do your best to save up for the dimmer switch, I could not be without it on any of my lamping kits and as a small bi product you will find lamp life also improves!! The CZ is great VFM, currently I am sitting on a .22LR Silhouette and Style both with Sak on the end..a Silhouette HMR with Sirocco, and an American .22WMR with a Sako mod...my primary use is control but they also get a whack at target work, Im happy, suits my requirements!! -
The guns are OK but I never have and never will understand a trigger with a key..especially as it usually turns itself OFF just as you have the crosshairs on a target!!
