  1. Not sure about this terminology, but there is NO LAW says you have to buy ammo...simple fact is that at renewal, if you are questioned about apparent lack of ammo use and cannot justify it, the odds are you will forfeit that calibre!!
  2. I think the "law" bit has been "done" here... But a few years back on a Christmas Tree Farm I shoot at the owner put up signs along the lines of..DANGER - Keep Out ..Armed Hunters control this area!! I think it took about 2 weeks before they had all been pulled down by the local ******!!! But his "shrinkage" problems are still much reduced as they all know it's true!!!
  3. If you are a member of the UK FCSA can you please PM me.. I need a chat!! Many thanks!!
  4. I was told that I was only covered if I made them specifically aware that I was doing this, although there was no charge for inclusion, I dont believe you are covered automatically. So unless you have made them aware you are doing this, I would check. You need to apply for this seperately..over and above their normal insurance..like I did several years back..they want to know why, and if you are accepted you get it...NO extra costs!! You are correct in that it is not automatic...another good reason for reading the terms and conditions of ANY insurance policy!!
  5. Deer Mentoring...first off this has NO basis in Law (yet) but is becoming more and more a requirement (or DSC1...sometimes BOTH). And please don't mention the smaller deer with .22 centrefires..it just gets sillier!!! That being the case there are NO rules..it is down to how each region wants to administer the "system". For my sins I am a Deer Mentor and my region want experience and competence and safety demonstrated to an adequate extent (Yeah I know..define that). Their simplistic and basic interpretation of this is a minimum of 6 Deer and 6 Months mentoring, Gralloching featur
  6. Personal experience says the CA are a waste of time and BASC are expensive...But I have found the BASC useful and helpful generally...I should stress that I have never had to claim on any insurance so I can't specifically comment how they fare in this department. However, I have read (unlike the vaste majority) the full terms and conditions of my BASC insurance (which also covers me for Humane roadside despatch) and it is pretty reasonable! I have "heard" horror stories about ALL the organisations so I suspect it is a bit of a lottery, but the BASC is at least quite large and been aro
  7. The worst that can happen is they can say NO, but this should be discussed at the "visit" informally...make sure you do not get a FORMAL refusal!!! And don't talk in any sort of language or suggestion or interpretation about being a "KID"....maturity will be an advantage, immaturity will not, so demonstrate maturity in every possible way!!!!
  8. Strange old world because I am quite a fan of fence posts...not shaky old rotten things....usually gives a bit of height and stability and therefore usually gives me an edge, love the bipods too but not a big fan of the "sitting" position!! Just the way it is.... A pleasure to have Foxdropper along..exchange of views and experiences invaluable, you never stop learning in this game!!
  9. You are jumping to all sorts of conclusions for no apparent reason....I have NEVER said I am "right", or anybody else is wrong, these results make no sense, and until I see some evidence I am not convinced...that seems to cause you some sort of a problem.... If you care to look back I have not said anyone is liar, just that I am not convinved, and I fail to see what this has got to do with being a good shot..I have also made it very clear that you believe what you like, your chrono may well be spot on but if the pellets don't fit the barrel equally the results are meaningless...seems you are
  10. Bookshelf???? No, thats at the side of my Laptop in a very shabby state from flicking through it for this place In the great scheme of sad bedtime reading this one is actually quite good..yep, available to download in it's entirety from the web but fortunately I have a printed copy. About time it was undated..been a lot of changes..but stilll VERY useful...

  12. Using a gun in self defence when you are in fear of yours or someone elses life is acceptable, although you would still have a devil of a job to proove it!! Taking a gun into a situation like this would almost certainly be viewed as intimidation and agression on your part..ie, you were better armed then them, net result is you would probably be in loads of trouble... If only we were in the USA
  13. That will be the difference chap...just trying two guns is not scientific...did you measure the barrel diameter of the guns, did you measure the barrel length...did you check all the seals, did you measure the thickness of the lead deposits inside the barrels...did you measure and weigh all the pellets... what chrono did you use...did each pellet have the same clearance, were they all the same shape, what was the wind direction, etc, etc..it's called repeatable....not, my mate tried it in the garden!! Chap...... that is the whole point NODOBY has done anything scientific here......I cann
  14. Th Max is in a different league altogether from the logan/atom/the odd torch metioned...maybe 70-100m beam at beat with any of these..... Being cruel, unkind, brutal and to the point...anyone who buys and then recommends any of these has never used a Mini or Max!!! Max beam out to 400metres. You might just as well as its the same prices as the Mini I believe from Uttings at the moment, which has a 250m beam...stilll plenty for a 12ft lb airgun but, for the same money for the 2 lamps I would stilll get the Max. I have Mini and Max...both Pro versions and both very useful!!!
  15. Happy New Year......everyone knows this pellet business do they...so where is the science...not a shred of evidence and I suspect none of you have the facilities to scientifically test this!! Neither do I. I cannot measure or check my barrels or pellets that accurately! Guys I don't care what you want to believe ...when I see the evidence I will accept it...if you want to believe what you heard from a million people I don't care, but seems more than a bit strange to me that apparently everyone knows it and NODOBY is able to point me in the direction of any science!!
  16. "Lazers" are a joke on the whole..they travel in straight lines..your pellet does not...they are therefore only accurate at a known distance (like your scope)...if all your rats are at that distance then fine, but most tend to move a bit. Most are only any use at very close range as well, beams on the cheaper ones are useless.....I struggle to find almost any situation where they are of any use...but hey...what do I know... Red dot systems are the same....why????...just get an illuminated scope!!! These two systems tend to blur together for most people and they don't know the diff
  17. Apparently that is what you have been doing with it so ...is it?????

    Owning a pcp

Can't help thinking a good answer would be had from the owners of the guns you tried!!
  19. I suggest you spend some time zeroing...will save you a lot of ammo looking at the last ratio shots/kills!!!
  20. No!!!!.......... the Season finishes on the 1st, and as that is a Sunday your last shooting day is the day before, but the season still finishes on 1st!
  21. ????????????????????????????????????? 22-250 isn't a Range Gun and the Ammo is not cheap here!!!
  22. I am not convinced there is a best fox caller! There are loads on the market from a few, to hundreds of £££'s and loads of people just use lips, hands greaseproof paper, polystyrene, etc etc, and different land favours different calls..try what you have and see how it works for you
  23. Its some sort of Lee Enfield...close as I can get!!!
  24. Deker

    barbed wire

It isn't just the dogs... Plenty of cut hands and legs and trousers and jackets over the years as well as 2 very unpleasant scratches on two seperate rifles!!
  25. Go along with everything SS has said. A Coterminous FAC/SGC, it will cost £10 more than a SGC ...and a second set of photos (God knows why)..but it's cheaper than a seperate FAC and SGC
