It will definately be down to trying a few, all manufacturers/all barrels/all twists, just seem to like or dislike some stuff!!
-
If we assume you are after a guide and not talking World Championship levels then just keep shooting......as long as you are on the board, no need to adjust the scope either, just keep the point of aim constant for each type and check group sizes! Sounds like a good clean afterwards will be in order!
-
The difference between the two in the accuracy department for hunting is not worth discussing! The shorter barrel will tend to cost more! Down to you to consider your use and preference!
-
Both would be useful but your land may well cause a problem! With the biggest space 6.5 acres you may even struggle with FAC air rifle!! You need to talk to your FEO on this, and without being funny, his response may well be...Improve your stalking skills with the 12ft lb air rifle! or buy a shotgun!! ATB

Is the £500 JUST for the Gun, and what do you want to do with it??
-
a workman with crap tools. in any case unload before climbing over anything, could be your foot next time or worse Its not the tools that make a workman, good tools just make it easier to do the job. And bad tools cause injury and/or screw up jobs!! Cut a straight edge with a bent saw, build a level wall with a cheap spirit level, drill a hole with a chinese Bit, etc, etc!! Buy an Escort Shotgun and you will understand!!!!

I'm not aware of any ban on horses and dogs walking down the road!!
-
Yep...have done and regularly do go out on Boxing day, it was traditionally the Biggest Hunt and Shoot day of the year!!...but with modern society this sometimes slips to the weekend!!!
-
NO...and guns available as required from BDS and BASC when you do the course if you need them...I seem to recall DSC1 at least, runs up the road from you in Farnham as well!!
-
Adjustable Butt plates will always have a place and always be useful, but remember your shoulder mount is dramatically different when prone or standing and unless you do a lot of one or the other you will be adjusting it all the time...net result is, most people end up with a compromise adjustment and leave it there...much as it it with most rifles out of the box!!

If your FAC states as you have said you have no deer condition and cannot use it for this purpose. The deer conditions are very specific and even though I have an Open Ticket and I am a Deer Mentor my FAC lists little facts like I can use my .223 for ROE deer in Scotland whilst it is of course only legal for CWD and Muntjac in England and Wales! If you want deer then have a word with your firearms dept!! ATB Specific rifle choice is down to the individual, requirements, taste, budget, etc...the Howas seem to offer pretty good VFM but there are lots of others to look at..check out

I think it is fairly common knowledge that there is no specific legal requirement for a DSC1 or Mentoring for deer (but I suspect that will change in the not too distant future). This presents the situation where different police authorities have their own "suggested" route for getting a deer calibre with a deer condition on your FAC! Arguing with your region will get you nowhere, but reasoned sensible debate may work if you have a good case!! Round my way it is possible to get the smaller calibres for CWD and Muntjac without too much grief, but step up to .243 and Roe etc and you ar

Things were looking up last night when my lad came over...Happy Christmas Dad...open it up then.....a new "headlamp"..adjusted the straps..put it on, tried the 4 different light settings...great!!!!!!! Dad, Dad...let me show you...so he takes the front off..never found out why...dropped it and broke the fixing lug...we tried to work it out and made it about 4 minutes from the time he gave it to me to the time it was broken....totally useless now as no way to hold the front lens in place... ......anyone got any spare "airfix" type plastic cement...I'll try and stick it back together!!

But what did actually happen? Sorry Deker, just a nosy sod, but this has arroused real interest mate? You have to understand to start with, as I have said earlier, that I have tried to keep a low profile all round on this and not been pestering the owner for information.....what happened is a very large and expensive cow met a premature end at the hands of somebody I did not even know shot on the land. The owners is more than safisfied it has nothing to do with me! He says he knows who did it but has not recieved a penny so far (and I get the impression he does not expect to).
-
Howa are certainly OK but I don't like the Hogue stock at all!! If you have a FAC which lists deer it will tell you what sort you can shoot with a .223!! If you do not have deer conditioned on you FAC you can't shoot them. .223 is only legal for CWD and Muntac in England and Wales and when your FAC says you can shoot deer!!
-
This is now all resolved..at least from my point of view, the farmer "knows" who did it and is persuing the matter!!! For my part the instructions are "crack on and get rid of those deer!!!" A considerable relief and a great weight off my mind, still can't believe it really!!!

Can't help thinking anyone who carries around a 34 amp pack DOES eat their Wheetabix...... or doesn't actually do much walking!!!

how did you make a living out of your hobby ?
Deker replied to ferret boy charlie's topic in General Talk
VERY, very few make a living at Pest Control by being too selective...what do you know about bed bugs, flour beetles, wasps nest.....and pretty soon the likes of the BPCA/RSPH exams will be compulsory!! Then...you may just be able to make a living...but forget the flash motor, foreign holidays and designer clothes!! -
...well, I was after a .5 Barratt, .308 SPS, etc ,etc, unfortunatel;y I forgot to send the list to Santa...closect I got was 3 pairs of welly boot socks in assorted shades of green.....I'll remember next year!!
-
Just one thing...if you are walking around with an 18 amp battery pack don't forget the Donkey to carry it for you!!
-
Thats what i have been saying to them i have just been getting snardy comments like your 19 so your obviously an expert. well i thought it was just common sense to use snap caps or something dont get into a debate with them mate some of these guys from the usa allways no best I don't see it as an out and out evil, BUT in America the 452 is a disposable commodity, however, parts are availabe from your local WalMart and the gun can probably be fixed whilst you do your shopping!!....Different values bring different standards!! Can't see it being too difficult to just load

No contest...the MINI.....if you get the Atom you will only ever wish you had more power...and the dimmer switch is almost essential in my opinion! If everyone could try before they buy..they would never sell anything below the Mini and the Logan would have died before it was launched!!

Never could get on with the Bore Foam...still got 3/4 of a can...each to their own!!

Accuracy of .17HMR 17g Varmint express
Deker replied to hotel2zero's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
you can't go wrong mate, best move i've made this year!! happy shooting I have .22LR, .17HMR and .22WMR.........................(they are tools of my trade and ALL have a use) Before you get too excited about the HMR did you consider the .22WMR..it's very good for foxes too and the ammo is a tad cheaper than HMR! ...just me off again on my crusade...but I promise if you use one you will love it!!! -
It's been said already...FIRST Rule is unload over fences/gates/whatever.... But it is an ESCORT.....just search the history of THL..... I have said before it IS only matter of time before this manufacturer kills someone...and Edgar Bros don't give a S**t!!!!!
