  1. A semi in 20g doesn't do it for me, my choice would be a 12 every time...O/U or SBS in 20 by all means..and meat damage is going to be no different on a 12 or 20 if you centre it! As someone else has said though, if you are concerned at meat damage a shotgun is not the tool!
  2. **** me...I paid £30 for my .17 Dewey Rod...but I can't deny they are good....spin that handle and it keeps turning for a fortnight!!!
  3. Couldn't have said it any better 150 from new says to me I would appreciate a clean!!
  4. Pretty much all the newer 12g models run down to 24 now.....never had a problem with 24 in my 391, but my old Beretta 303 would not deal with 24 very well.... all round just something else to think about..simple as!!
  5. 1. Opticswarehouse 2. Uttings Anyone know of anywhere that "will" do a better deal I'd be interested to hear as well!! Cheers
  6. In some ways this defeats the point of a 20g....you Will Never be able to use light cartridges in a 20g semi as it will not cycle, so you will get a thump...slightly offset by the fact it is a semi...lots of 12g semis can now use light..or low recoil cartridges as they still give enough kick to cycle the mechanism. Light 20's were originally designed as light 20...not light guns you need to use a heavy cartridge in. Find the right gun and you will probably be fine, but frankly, as 20g carts cost a chunk more than 12g, and 12g Semis are easy to use and commonly "light " themselves...and
  7. The 453 and 452 BOTH have adjustable triggers..the 453 is simply a new design trigger and a SET trigger! In answer to the original question I strongly suggest you do NOT cut the original spring...you will likely not get it right and there is no going back! Simply get an Eric Brooks trigger kit... cz452.com/ ...got mine direct a few months back and cost about £8.32 including delivery...lots and lots of trigger adjustments and no cutting anything...so you can always go back to where you started!
  8. The science on this is EASY, Demonstrable and Repeatable...speed, weight and a calculater..there is no lead up these barrels and barrel length is dealt with before a speed measurement is taken...as the bullet has left the barrel by then....GROW UP or ...stick to air rifles and your back garden!!! Keep the toys in the pram mate harmless banter is all it is! Seem to remember you cocking your head at my gunsmith mate building wildcat rifles ie the 22.4000 and his new .20 To each their own eh? No chap..if that is what you thought or the way it appeared to came across you misinte
  9. Each to their own chap and I would completely agree that you do not need a dimmer switch with the ATOM...you will never need to turn that down!!

  11. Only expanding ammo goes on your ticket, you can buy non expanding ammo mail order. but you cant use non expanding ammo on life animals. Whilst it may well be preferable to use "Expanding" ammunition on most live quarry in most situations, the only animal that MUST be shot with expanding ammo in England/Wales is Deer. There is NO legal requirement to shoot anything else with expanding....just usually a good idea!! Not sure about Scotland but think it is the same....Ireland may well have other ideas!!
  12. so this mentor thing is not law and me doing 6 mths is bullshite ? shooting fox with a 222 i was thinking 6mths seems alongtime .so when my mentor is finished say i want a 243 wich i will for deer roe/fallow/fox will i have to go through this bullshite again or can i oppose the mentor thing Irish Flag and Surrey???? England...can't comment or Ireland The Mentoring is NOT LAW..but there are suggestions made about it in Police guidelines. If you wish to call it bullshite (which I would "gererally", although not entirely agree with) that's up to you! You are perfectly f

TOLD :whistling: just out of interest Deker are you planning to become a member or just have a go firing one. can't be a cheap hobby. must be what...8-9 pounds a pop. i'd love to have a go. makes a .308 target rifle look like an air rifle. just remember some padding :clapper:

  15. Slip it into the conversation by all means, but I would simply come straight out with it and ask the question. If the response is very negative by all means discuss and ask how/when you could get an Open FAC but don't push the point! If you push you will likely end up with a FORMAL refusal which sits on your file...not good...if you simply discuss it and agree between you it isn't going to happen then that was just an informal chat with no potential repercussions!!

  17. Yep...thats the idea....a few of us.....and I suspect the vast majority of people on here would like to try it as well..just the once for most though...the earth really does move!!!
  18. only the rifle needs locking up. the pellets can be kept with your socks. ...and there are no limits on how many pellets you can buy or hold and you do not need to produce your FAC to buy the pellets..but you will still have to jump through hoops to get a FAC Air...VERY Difficult to get one for Target work..you need land
  19. I was thinking about a long range rabbit tool ............. perhaps Berkshire to Wiltshire sort of range, I know a man who makes a Hot .50 round ..15,000ft lb...yes really.... 15 thousand...the gun can only be used with a ground spike with this ammo or there is a serious risk of injury to the shooter!! Won't do the bunny any good either..pebbledash the whole county I suspect!! BUT...I can't imagine a situation where ANY civilian would get one of these for ANY fieldwork in the UK.... It's a long story.........................
  20. God knows where these daft figures have come from.......look here and then consider how that compares to your quoted figures http://www.cci-ammunition.com/ballistics/rimfire.aspx If you are not convinced then simply try to zero at 35 yards and see what happens at 125. well, by what those charts say it seems someone has been talking a load of shite.... ill take it out on Sunday & give it try... what would you recommend zeroing it in to ? It really depends on the land... and the range you find best suited for that land..however, mine is zeroed for 100

  22. I would suggest the Jet Z is "marginally" quieter..but a chunk more expensive, makes the rifle longer and throws all the weight right up the front...if you are getting your T3 Cut I assume it is the full length barrel. I have done everything sensible to get my T3 Lite in .223 balanced reasonably well...had an ASE S5 to start with on this with then a normal P8..changed the scope mounts 3 times and the scope 5 times ...last resort is now to shorten the barrel! My T3 Hunter in .243 is the new shorter barrel version.......BOTH now have P8 Compact mods fitted and the Hunter balance is bril
  23. The type of dimmer switch Deben uses does make the battery last longer, it also improves lamp life and also gives you much more versatility...always turn the lamp on at low and increase as required...saves terrifying close quarry...can also confuse them with distance....turn the lamp down as you get closer and the quarry gets confused and doesn't know you have moved..use it a very low level to check your footing....also saves destroying your own eye night vision...the advantages go on! The dimmer switch is available seperately...about £32 I think....down to the individual/land/requirement
  24. You are jumping to all sorts of conclusions for no apparent reason....I have NEVER said I am "right", or anybody else is wrong, these results make no sense, and until I see some evidence I am not convinced...that seems to cause you some sort of a problem.... If you care to look back I have not said anyone is liar, just that I am not convinved, and I fail to see what this has got to do with being a good shot..I have also made it very clear that you believe what you like, your chrono may well be spot on but if the pellets don't fit the barrel equally the results are meaningless...seems you are
  25. what rifle is it on ? air rifle ,rimfire, centrefire ? anyway make sure you have set the scope the right distance from your eye its important for you to get it right for your eye. when your happy make sure the mounts a done up right but not over tight. then set up a target ie if its for air rifle then set it up at 20 yards to start with see where the 1st shot hits on the board if you miss the board completely then bring the board closer. then once your on the board adjust to suite ie''' say its 3 inch to the right of the bull and high adjust one at a time so come down on the scope
