  1. All mine has on the barrel is Cal .17HMR, made in Czech Republic. CZ 452-2E ZKM serial numbers and proof marks..there is NO name!! The full length barrel WILL be slightly more accurate and slightly more powerful, but if truth be know you will have to be of Olympic standard to notice the difference!!
  2. CA, SACS, Farmers Union, ....it goes on and on...... info@perkins-slade.com .......are a big sports/shooting insurer if you want to go it alone...but I suspect it will be cheaper through the many sporting associations.
  3. There are some cheap and some innexpensive .223, .243 and .308 etc, factory rounds available and some are perfectly adequate for many applications, and some do work out cheaper than reloading. Nevertheless, the vast majority of reloaded ammo will be cheaper than factory and better. So if you have the space and inclination reloading is well worth while for many people with financial and quality benefits!!! ...and you get to talk to lots of great people who have the same anorak and notebook as you!!
  4. I'm not sure where you get your information, perhaps the BDS..how do you make the assumption..... 90% of shots on deer are to the heart and lungs and verry few of them drop to the sport you need to hit the spine or head to do that so most will run have you shot many deer? And I have to ask .....have you shot many deer? because the above statement is NOT my experience!!
  5. Tikka don't make rimfires! CZ do ..and some pretty good ones. Uttings sell loads of scopes, but so do many others!
  6. Barrel wise the Silhouette/Style is available in 16" or 22.5". The 22.5 is the normal length the barrel is made, anything shorter requires a further cut etc, and so a shorter barrel ends up costing more. The barrel IS 22.5 inches long in its entirety but taking out barrel fitting, action and breech area many would call it 20". Mine is full length. I have not seen one with the length marked on it. The Varmint is a heavy barrel, if you have one of these in a synthetic stock then you either have a very new, or custom gun. The heavy barrel does not fit the normal barrel Silhouette/Style
  7. Lots...always is, moves around my areas all the time..took another one out on Friday. I think we all have theories but I believe "Immunity" is banded about too much...just because Mixxy sweeps through a piece of land and some bunnies don't get it does not mean they are immune, there will always be boundaries and edges where mixxy does not reach. Inevitably there must be some level of immunity, simply by the law of averages, but I do not believe immunity is anywhere near as wide spread as may be the general suggestion. Just my opinion!
  8. Each to their own and weight wise I am a tart, .223T3 Lite, .243T3 Hunter and .308 Remington SPS...carry them around all day no problem in the field, but they get warm on the range!!
  9. Sweet as a nut again now, out with my lad for a while yesterday for a .22lr, .223 and .308 zero session......job done... ...and interestingly, after bashing the .308 through a Log Pile backstop luck would have it we found 2 bullet heads.....gone right through 8inches (200mm) of solid tree trunk and smashed a smaller piece of wood behind. Can't believe the expansion achieved whilst pushing through such a solid piece of tree, anyway my lad has taken pics of the heads on his phone and just gone back home, so hopefully he will remember to send them to me so I can show you all. Cheers
  10. i guess that5s down to different chambers and stuff deker It's down to slightly differing twist rates in the manufacturing process, and the fact that no two barrels are the same, harmonically, and also differing stresses on differing parts of the barrel's, So this is why even two rifles from the same company, same model, same twist, shoot differently at times, So each rifle will have varying effects, Never seen "STUFF" defined so eloquently!!!
  11. This will tell you all you need to know.......then you can really start a debate.....Enjoy the read......ATB!! http://police.homeoffice.gov.uk/publicatio...pdf?view=Binary
  12. ALL new cabinets must comply with..... Gun Cabinets (BS7558:1992) So..if this "Safe" complies the answer is yes...but I would check carefully!!! Some older gun cabinets do not comply with this latest BS, but most regions will accept the continued use of older cabinets!
  13. I have both, and trust me, a well placed .243 is devastating!! The right .308 ammo hits like a sledgehammer but will destroy a fox. If you (metaphorically) can't knock down anything you can find in this country at 200yards with a .243 then you should seriously consider another sport!!!
  14. Twist rates are one thing and we can all do the research and maths, BUT for some strange reason some guns/barrels favour some manufacturers bullets and hate others..
  15. I'm not convinced a DSC is of any great relevance!! I suggest a shooting test (accuracy) and safety knowledge should be explored!! Many people have a .243 or bigger and quite legitimately take foxes etc, so I struggle to understand why a DSC test is required for deer!! Shoot straight and safely seems to say it all to me!!
  16. This was on one of his 1000yard MATCH rifles!!! You would not be walking around the woods with this...the barrel went on for a fortnight and it weighed a ton!!!
  17. Shorten barrel, thread, re-crown AND Proof!!!! £.
  18. They hit hard, your pocket, your shoulder and your quarry!! Not something I have a use for but each to their own!!!
  19. My thanks to a former member of this site for putting me on to this guy.... Neil McKillop at Mckillop Engineering Ltd Butlersland Farm, READING, RG7 2AG. He is a top man and a first class engineer/RFD/shooter..so he knows.... and cares!!!! Just collected my .223 and .308 from him today after cut, thread, crown, moderator fitting.....Well chuffed, real quality work!! He does work for some of the top people in the country and builds rifles as well as working miracles on them..had the pleasure of seeing some of his work and tried some of his guns...F*** me one of his match rifles
  20. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO Clipping take it off and refit it or get another, something is very wrong!!!! NEVER live with this!!!!!!!
  21. ..... lost me...seems very strange set of circumstances!!
  22. The price has just gone up...£45 per 100, but as always, he gives £1 back for each 20 spent brass so price works out as £40 per 100 now, price rise of £4, so could be worse I guess....note other prices... http://www.tfsa.co.uk/AMMUNITION%20PAGE.htm
  23. It isn't!! They are great fun and have a place, but nothing like as reliable as a BRNO/CZ or a Remington700...they are a semi auto, they are never as reliable, same goes for shotgun semi auto variations!! I'm not having a go, it's a simple fact thats all!!!
  24. all the way mate, last me 6 hours of use, with the dimmer. £100, bargin! I'm happy with mine, I consider it offers excellent VFM!
  25. £26 covers 1, or as many additions as you like! Edit..this is England and Wales...I guess it's the same in Scotland!!
