  1. Your misses put you on rations or something..and no need to shout either!
  2. 12g AAA is the minimum legal "shot" that can be used on deer in England/Wales, I believe it's the same for the rest of UK but not sure! It is very capable of stopping the right deer at the right distance, but there are very few instances when it is the tool of choice, without doubt the appropriate rifle is the best option in the vast majority of situations...not least because AAA put too many holes in the carcase!!
  3. With over 6000 post in a little over a year where do you find the time to go out shooting???
  4. That just about says it all Flytie. I've had Beretta semi's for pest control and wildfowling and they 're great. The cleaning did effect in the end how I felt about it though, became a real pain. Also the single choke can be restrictive on clays sometimes. Now I have o/u and sbs magnum. The latter being only £50 and a n/ejector though. Starting again I would have a Silver Pigeon, nice balance well made take anywhere type off shotty. Good advice on here but I get the feeling a sexy auto is what your gonna go for. With regard the ejected cases then etiquette/good manners dictates to
  5. Chap..what is there to assume..if you hit them in the "chest" and they all fall down dead then it's fine ...if they don't it isn't!!
  6. You don't have to shoot at anything that moves however it presents..you are allowed to refuse a shot, there is always another time!! Head, or heart/lung it doesn't matter, get it right or forget it!!
  7. I just don't like the luck cheap and tatty, but the recent falcon pcp I saw at the gunshop was a lovely piece, probably due to the fact that they are now made by Air Arms. A common misconception...NSP Engineering bought Air Arms and then Falcon, NSP owns them both, AA did not buy Falcon and AA do not make Falcon guns, ..they are both made at the same works by NSP Engineering in effect! I run a Falcon multishot and it is very accurate but I would still probably go for a AA, BUT I would get a multishot regardless, not a singe shot.
  8. .177 are NOT more accurate than .22, they just fly faster and have a flatter trajectory, which simply means you have to do less maths to work out pellet placement, most people will be more accurate with a .177 because it is easier to target, but it is not inherently more accurate than a .22! "Chest" shots...what does that mean...if you are simply aiming at the biggest body mass then that isn't particularly clever and a .22 may well be more appropriate, HOWEVER, if you are talking heart/lung shots then either calibre will be adequate at the appropriate distance, and matched to the individua
  9. Because the marketing men will tell you they give you the BEST of .177 and .22....fact is they give you the worst of both...they are not as fast or flat as a .177 and don't make as big a hole as a .22...thats why there are still very few .20 about!!
  10. I have tried a few over the years but now I run the Predator 8 COMPACT on all my centrefires, right up to and including the .308. The Compact helps with the weight and makes little or no difference to the moderation, certainly not up to and including the .243, perhaps a tiny bit on the .308. I do not believe they are the best sound moderation but they are good enough for me, and they are very easy to strip and clean (which probably means I do it too often). As centrefire mods go they are not expensive either...although the trade margins on these (and most mods) are enormous!!
  11. All the PRVI ammo offers good value and fortunately all my rifles seem to perform adequately with it. Different actions, barrels, twists???? who knows, you need to try a few and see! I am also told the brass is excellent for re-loading!
  12. What Mod would that be on the HMR...I want one please, I can wake the neighbours up in the next county, even with the Moderator on my HMR!!
  13. Talking of which, the secondary sprocket switch on the inbound port seems stuck, the ratchet spring is far too tight and there is no pressure at entry or exit, something is blocked or fubared .....or is it just the kink in the pipe........... ....that .223 soft point home brew you gave me destroyed several bunnies Friday and I couldn't hit a barn door with the HMR yesterday in the gusty conditions. But around 20.00 when it went still they were all droping down dead right out to 185 yards!!........ What colour Anorak do I need to become a re-loader and where to I buy the translation b
  14. Yep...usually has TFSA outside the tent (and a BBQ going) and he is almost always on the grass opposite the NRA and Fultons...and he is usually the busiest stand at the show!!
  15. .22lr...take away everything else I have but leave me with old faithful!! Although the .223 seems to be working well, went out tonight with another pal and used some of Mr L's home brews, and had 2 quick groups each of 3 bunnies, all between 120-180yards and not a single runner One literally blew up and pebbledashed the county...clearly visible from where I was shooting, the rest came ready skinned, paunced and fit for nothing but charlie, my shooting buddy who is a little more used to the .22lr was gobsmacked and took a photo...to be continued!!
  16. Makes a fair bit of sense but I run a .223 and a .243..and a .308 ...and they all have their uses, so perhaps no great need to rush out and get a .243...but I would not even consider a .222 today unless I intended to reload, it's a fine calibre but ammo is getting harder to find and more expensive, VERY little is chambered in .222 today!
  17. The aplication is badly worded...make sure you specify expanding ammunition!!
  18. As advised earlier..... Fundamentally it's just the same as your ball landing in your neighbours garden. Just because it is your ball you have no right to enter your neighbours to collect it without permission. You commit the act of trespass if you do, trespass is basically a civil matter but is also potentially very complicated, and is different in the various countries of Great Britain!!
  19. Deker, I will be very interested in what you find out. I do the deer control on a golf course and have just taken on a private airfield with the same problem. Have you tried emailing them? Head office is the place to start. If you put it in writing they will have to answer you. I found that when trying to get information from Defra about the contraception of wild boar in the Forest Of Dean, when I rang the local chaps and the ministry vets they had no idea what was going on. I had to email London for them to answer me. I wish you luck with your enquiries. Atb, ft I did em
  20. It may well be playing with words but Sound Moderator IS what you want to list!!! No other words, and definately NOT Silencer!!
  21. Don't have a Whisper and would never bother, a pal has and the difference between that and a SAK is indistinguishable to me...waste of money...but I would agree that the SAK isn't going to win any design awards..but it is inexpensive (relatively) and adequately functional!!
  22. Just a waste of two more rounds..they would go straight through the holes I already made with the first three shots and be lost!!!
  23. Deker, while I agree wholeheartedly with you that you need a license to shoot deer at night, I am afraid I cannot agree with you about the "Farmer's Defence". The Farmer's Defence is enshrined in the Deer Act 1991 and was not repealed by the 2007 Regulatory Reform (Deer) (England & Wales) Order 2007. This is substantiated by the BDS Training manual for Deer Stalkers 2007 which mentions both parts of the act and simplifies it for folks like me into plain english. Do not give the b*ggers more power than they already have. I hate Natural England/Defra with a passion, they know noth
  24. The "Farmers Defence" is exactly that...you need a licence for out of season or night shooting to make it legal. If you are caught without a licence and then rely on the farmers defence it is down to you to put your case and hope it is accepted!! It may be playing with words but that is how it is interpreted!
  25. I had a deer problem to deal with just a few weeks back at a MoD/RAF helicopter base on the south coast, and Natural England were about as helpful as a chocolate fireguard with regard out of season and night shooting!! Refer to this ..look at this.....I'll get someone else to call you.... fill in this...wish I'd never asked!!! Scotland has a diffefrent interpretation and outlook on things, and deer laws are a little different!!
