Quietest .22 Rimfire - need to be covert.
Deker replied to dadioles's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
CAPS BB Cap (Flobert), .22 Cal, 17 gr SP 750 fps (round nosed) CB Cap (Flobert), .22 Cal, 17 gr SP 750 fps (pointed nose) These are about half the size of a .22 short. I think I am right in saying RWS are the only manufacturer these days, not easy to find but there are some about. SHOTSHELLS Shot shells are in simple terms like a .22lr shotgun cartridge, also available for .22WMR.... http://www.cci-ammunition.com/products/det...amp;loadNo=0039 Several other manufacturers also make them, "generally" available from most RFD! I have heard mixed reviews about let -
Which Centerfire caliber to choose?
Deker replied to Groach's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
its 26 i believe but my feo said i would be more likely to get it granted with less strict restructions so i thought it seems like a good idea to me George It's £26 unless something has changed VERY recently! If you are talking about shooting in England/Wales then the .243 is a no brainer for what you want/need! -
The trigger on New magtech 7022 is like two sheets of grit sandpaper grinding on each other and the pull lasts a fortnight! You were probably lucky to even hit the paper! What do they cost now...about £130 brand new last time I looked, seems a good deal on the face of it especially as they are screw cut as well, but I've never known anyone to be happy with one. Last time I looked there was NO trigger adjustment either, is that still the case...just wear it down and hopefully in about 20,000 rounds it will have improved from absolutely dire to just terrible. Anyway, ATB, I actu

Debating or arguing the toss on here is not going to help....this is about as good a response as you could get, so I would suggest you act on it asap! Best of luck!

The guy in the shop said it is but I havn't seen it mentioned in any reviews. You will find it stamped and chambered .223....... I can guarantee if the manufacturer was happy for you to put 5.56 down it they would have stamped it 5.56 as well!!! This debate has cropped up before, and there are many past references on this site to it, also search the web, you will quickly find that is in NOT a good plan to put 5.56 through a .223! ATB PS. And I would have to agree with Mr L on the Mod, I would suggest everyone considers the Compact version of the Predator 8 over the full l

Quietest .22 Rimfire - need to be covert.
Deker replied to dadioles's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Just a few observations on the above, my experience does not concur here! I run a Falcon FN 19 at 26ft lb with a Falcon full mod (no detwanger), it is just as loud as my CZ .22lr with subs and a SAK, a pal has an 80ft lb Daystate and Mod and that is noisier than BOTH! Ammo available for a .22lr runs from about 30ft lb caps, to 205ft lb, so a massive choice, no need to lug a bottle round all the time and recharge after a handful of shots (approx 8 shots per full charge on the Daystate----30 on my Falcon) and the .22lr is likely to be approx 1/4 to 1/2 the price of a FAC Air Rifle. -
bullmastiff I understand there have been some improvements in the design and manufacture of the gun, there certainly need to be. ATB http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=65148

How many Moderators/Silencers allowed ?
Deker replied to Sound Moderator's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
By the sound of things, to do this right you will need a variation, but there is also a suggestion above! I'm curious to know what has steered you towards a Whisper for the .22lr. I don't have one but I have shot through one, and the guy who did buy it was gutted he wasted so much money, vowing to buy a SAK next time! Hard to tell the difference between that and the SAK in my limited experience. -
I've never actually used one and to the best of my knowledge I don't know anyone who has one! Closest I got was a while back when I got my .308 SPS from Greenfields in Salisbury and they put one on the end for me to try in the store (barrel was full length but cut), balance was good, it surprised me! Not that cheap I recall, and I chopped the barrel anyway and put a P8 Compact on the rifle, that works ok for me! ATB...I would be interested in your views on it if you do get one!

Quietest .22 Rimfire - need to be covert.
Deker replied to dadioles's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Any .22lr with a Mod, you might just as well get a SAK; they are as good as any and a sensible price; and sub sonic ammo will be a quiet combination. I am always curious when people prefer a heavy (CZ Varmint) barrel for "hunting", especially on a .22lr. I like light guns for trecking round the countryside for hours, and a heavy barrel will have no advanatage accuracy wise in the field in general use, and just get heavy to carry quickly. Do you have a specific reason for a Varmint version or is it just a personal preference? Cheers -
What do you rate as the best mod for a hmr?
Deker replied to Groach's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
If anyone ever finds a decent mod for a HMR let me know, I have tried the Hog, Sako, Sak, Sirocco, DM80..think there was another, and there is little or nothing to seperate them..DM80 edges it but it should...the Whisper is a complete waste of £125 in my opinion, and the opinion of the one person I know who bought one! -
BubbleDuck, Do you find that once you have nailed one the others come around to examine their fallen brethren? Watched a vid this evening and Steve Price shot one, another couple landed to see what was up with it and he hit them he then nailed another 4 all withing a few feet of the original Someone told me these birds are smart If I saw some of my mates lying dead on the deck, I'd be giving it legs not hanging around for the next shot Phantom It's very common that a whole load of them turn up making a hell of a racket, that's usually when a couple more go down!
-
For your first FAC you are only going to get rimfire. Go for .22lr, ask for HMR. TBH, if you ask your FEO for a .223 as a first gun, he might decide that you know so little about firearms that you should not have a ticket at all. Frankly, I agree. Go for FAC air to start with. Ric Ric...we all have our own preferences and our own experiences, mine seem a little different to yours in part! First question in response to thread is..What do you intend to do with it? A Centrefire is not impossible on a first application, I know of several! That is not to say I agree, especially

Best way to nail the buggers is to either tunnel right inside a bush/hedge or make a hide within range of their favourite trees, usually the tallest ones in the area. Make sure the back of the hide is blacked out so no light can get through from behind. When they land don't shoot at them straight away but wait half a minute or so until they settle down and stop looking around, they then usually start preening themselves and/or peck about. Don't shoot when they are stood still and the sides of their heads are facing you. VERY SLOWLY bring the gun up and take a shot but stop dead still if they

Out yesterday afternoon after the deer when about 17.30 the phone goes, dear old lady I have known for years and help out a bit. "Hi Deker, the fox is back, took one of my hens yesterday and is in the garden now....he comes up from the lake end of the garden" So I said I would try and get over this afternoon! Now... this site is not enormous, only about 17 acres (her garden) but she used to keep 3 horses as well, one had to be put down last year and the other two sold as she found them too hard work (she's well into her 's) and husband had a stroke earlier this year so needs a lo

Has anybody tried cci's .22 segmented hollow points ?

On the whole they are really hard to get, the ones round my area know me well and usually fly when I get within about 150 yards. Good going!

Higher mag should not change the POI at all. This will only happen in Faulty or VERY VERY cheap scopes! Distance is always a problem and more so at night, especially with the arc of of 12ft lb pellet. Practice is usually the answer, rangefinders certaintly have a use but you often have to move quick with a shot or the quarry runs off! NEVER been a fan of the lazer, personal thing, some will love them, I've always struggled to see the point!
-
What do you intend to shoot with it and over what distances...is that 2 guns you are getting rid of or one..and is that a fixed mag 20x scope you are referring to? The HMR is no substitute for a .223! The HMR is VERY accurate in the right conditions, even my Silhouette HMR will deliver touching shots at 100 yards if I do my bit, so I struggle to understand why anyone would want to spend a fortune on one, it isn't noted as a target tool, so how are we defining BEST HMR? We all have different circumstances to deal with and preferences, so it usually comes down to personal choice.
-
I do apologise dear chap, they are remington yellow jacket hollow point that i have been using (theres a picture of a wasp on the box). I used to use the Rem Yellow Jacket HP in my Silhouette, found them to be one of the best High Velocity rounds in the gun! (my .22lr is strictly a Sub Sonic tool these days) Anyway, back to the topic.... If you like the CZ in HMR then just get a CZ .22lr, almost any of them, stick a mod (SAK) on the front and use Subs, job done, no need to use ANY HV ammo through the .22lr, just use the HMR if you want a bit more clout!

Just hit 30, the year was VERY slow to start, but has picked up a lot recently! 30 works well for me, if I get to 50 it's a big year!
-
I think that is a little harsh, especially as they are about half the price of Eley, I suggest this is much more reasonable response...... The Magtech have never been noted for their accuracy but they are great in my Silhouette. A pal has a Silhouette, same barrel and same mod as me, very similar age as well, he always used Eley but was impressed with my accuracy with the Magtech so he tried some of MY ammo, his gun sprayed them over about 2.5 inches at 50 yards so it didn't work for him. Like I say, they seem to work for me, and genuinely just about the same as Eley, so I guess my rif

Have to agree, are these CCI 0064 .22lr 32g SHP??? I was not aware any had been landed in the uk yet...could be wrong! CCI 40g HP Subs and CCI Velocitors always chambered VERY tight in my CZ Silhouette but the subs were pretty accurate, mind you, I think I have a good one, Eley work well but mine fires Magtech just as well!!!! Hi Deker how do you rate Magtech in your CZ Silhouette never tryed them . the only subs that i use in my CZ Silhouette are winchester super x . atb W.D The Magtech have never been noted for their accuracy but they are great in my Silhouette
