  1. You do not go into specifics of conviction...check this out... Persons Prohibited by Section 21 of the Firearms Acts from Possessing or Handling Firearms, Ammunition and Air-weapons. A person who has been sentenced to preventive detention, imprisonment or to corrective training for a term of three years or more; or who has been sentenced to be detained in a young offenders institution in Scotland, shall not, at any time, have a firearm or ammunition in his/her possession. This means for life and includes all firearms, even air weapons. A person who has been sentenced to bor
  2. ATB....just be careful you get what you want, what fits and what suits! Sportsman "can" sometimes be a little bit intimidating with them trying to sell you what they have!
  3. This .243/.308/whatever debate has been raging for years and it will never be resolved! Simple fact is there is NOTHING in this country you cannot stop with a .243! If you want/prefer/require/need .308 then fine. I have the choice of what to take out of the cabinet and rarely in the field do I find the need for the .308 over the .243! Yes, I take care where I put the shot, and I'm careful with ammo choice! Seems there are strong views from all camps on calibre, I see the answer as simple, if it works for you then use it, but no need for anyone to tell the rest of the world
  4. Yes, is the simple answer. Good for stopping them and control, but a bit noisy generally and a fairly close range tool, even with a 12g. The food issue seems to have cropped up and it is far from ideal if you are looking for personal food. Head shooting bunnies with a shotgun is not on for most mere mortals! ATB!
  5. Chap, with regard the criminal record you are of course correct, depending upon what it is actually for. But ferret boy charlie has a medical condition as well, add the two together and the chances of FAC must be VERY slim at the moment. Simple fact is none of us can say for sure, it is all down to his region, but the odds are far from favourable!
  6. Chap...you are fully justified in being surprised, I would not be at all happy. As I have already said this is not typical and I would certainly look into this a bit deeper!
  7. This ammo business really does get you scratching your head sometimes. I use Magtech Subs almost exclusively in my Silhouette and they work remarkably well for me! I am well aware of the views of many on this ammo, and yes I get the odd one that goes noisy! A few months back I was out with a pal who has exactly the same rifle as me and exactly the same moderator, and it is also a very similar age. He had used Eley from day one but was impressed with the way mine handled Magtech. We did a swap, I tried Eley and was disapointed to find little or no difference in accuracy, but they ar
  8. All stainless steel rifles are prone to RUST !!! The 'normal' ie. non rusting stainless steel is NOT used in rifles ! Although branded as all weather rifles they still need care and attention . Clean hands / light oil when put away and stored where there is little heat fluctuation . Tikka's can rust in hours if the barrel is touched by sweaty hands. Chap..Chill out, I made a brief response which was to the point and accurate. Stainless barrels are less prone to surface oxidation than most other metals used for barrels/actions. They handle temperature and general
  9. Lets not go there, let this one die away!

  11. for the DSC1. Gun wise there are very few bad brands, just a few bad guns that crop up from time to time. It tends to get personal! ATB!!
  12. More than capable for both and it p***** me off I can't legally use my .223 on Roe in England!
  13. One of the advantages of stainless is its durability in the damp etc, something doesn't seem right, I have 2 stainless and no "rust" issues at all.
  14. Off topic a bit, but how is the .22WMR holding up Stateside, I hear it is still pretty popular but your views would be appreciated. The WMR is having a hard time in the UK but is beginning to came back slightly into favour. I run a .22lr, .17HMR and .22WMR....as well as the centrefires, and rate the WMR on a number of levels!! Cheers
  15. There you go then, Parker Hale or SAK, but my money is on the SAK! ATB!!
  16. They seemed to be a sort of urban mtyth until very recently . Heard of but not seen .Like you I'll use em (if they shoot straight) but I'm not sure that they are sub-sonic ??? Someone will know . CCI 0074 .22lr Segmented Hollow Point 40g 1050ft sec at muzzle...so Sub Sonic!! Also listed CCI 0064 .22lr Segmented Hollow Point 32g 1640ft sec at muzzle!! I have yet to hear of any being in the UK yet...... Anyone got some?????
  17. I've had a fair few over the years and all situations and circumstances are different, the best answer I can give, without trying to be flippant is ...Find somewhere that has a lot and shoot straight!
  18. we could say that about all rifles ttho. someone says get 22/250 its better then 223. and then someone says get 243 its better then 22/250. then get a 260 its better then 243 and so on. i like some of the older 222 rifles because they are built to very high spec. and the rifles on the market now build wise dont compare. Like he said, the 222/223 debate has been done to death and intrinsically nothing wrong with either. But times chance, and it isn't simply power, if you are NOT into reloading, and buying new today the .223 seems to make more sense!
  19. Following one or two comments here I really am beginning to wonder if we have some bad ammo in the UK. I have established that 16,000 Hornady .22 V-Max WMR have been imported into the UK. This is almost certainly part of a single production run! The results I achieved with this ammo were disapointing to say the least, whereas the Hornady .17HMR 17g V-Max are excellent in my HMR. Makes you think eh!!!
  20. I think I would have a job to add anything to what SS has said above. Capable, but only in very limited circumstances and best suited for slaughtering/humane despatch!
  21. Personally, there is nothing wrong with the Remmingtons (I have a 700 Tactical in 22.250 but much modified). Having said that all rifles are a bit like cars - two people can buy a Ford Focus, one has no problems the other nothing but problems. Given the choice in your situation I would look more seriously at the Sako - generally a better build. Why on earth are you changing from 6.5 to 270? The 6.5 is only about 1.5" lower at 200 yards and a much sweeter calibre to shoot. I tried the 270 then the 6.5 - still with the 6.5 Sako will have the quality edge, but in saying that noth
  22. Strange as it may seem at 100 yards the 20g .17HMR fly slightly higher and slightly left of the 17g in mine! Lots of different subs and high velocity in .22lr which fly a lot different to each other. Bottom line is, change ammo and check your zero every time!
  23. Lets start by saying again I suggest a 22-250 is the dedicated Fox tool! But Sorry chap, I have to dissagree on noise, I have shot side by side with a .22-250 and the noise issue was apparent immediately! Choice of factory ammo is also wider for .223 than for 22-250, different situation if you are reloading! That's why my choice would be .223! ATB! well my rifle with ase mod shooting next to my mates 223 with same mod you wouldnt no the difference. also i shoot with a lad that has 22/250ai with ase mod and even he said his rifle now was less noise then his old tikka 223 with
  24. Looking at the dates you mention above this would have also come up at the SGC renewal, how did you deal with it then?
