  1. It is very interesting to hear other peoples experiences, I am fortunate that I have a lot of tools to choose from and my .22LR CZ Silhouette is now exclusively a sub sonic tool. Going back the odd year or two I did use/try a number of HV rounds through it and the Remington Yellow Jacket Hyper Velocity HP were probably the best, odd looking bullet but it did shoot well(ish), for a High Velocity .22lr and it certainly did the business when it arrived!
  2. Keep your fingers firmly crossed, if GMK say Mid Jan you will be lucky to see them by April!!! ATB!!
  3. As someone else brought it up a word on the Whitetail Classic. The 3.5-10x50 is one of the best value for money and build quality scopes I have ever owned. It is factory parallax set at 100 yards and is great, I only sold mine because my eyes are going and I need variable parallax adjustment (I know ..but it works for me) Mine was the best part of 10 years old when I sold it and as good as new in every respect..if you can find one it's certainly worth a look, one of the all time "classic" scopes!!!
  4. If you are only using sub sonic lead, then not that often, perhaps a mop through from time to time to get the crud out and an occassional decent clean to remove any lead deposits, which should not be too difficult. If you are using high velocity copper coats then more regular and better cleaning would normally be required!
  5. I would have to suggest from my experiences the JSR range of scopes offers exceptionally good glass on the whole. Built quality is not the best, dialing distances is not good and the scopes with allen key locking turrets drive me mad. But I also suggest they do offer very good value for money!!
  6. Reasonable care is required with all barrels and actions, never dry your gun by leaning it on the radiator and never put it away wet. But no need to go mad, wipe off the damp, gentle drying, and light oil will keep almost any barrel in good order for years
  7. Lifted directly from Chapter 6 Home Office Firearms Law, Guidance to the Police 2002 (the bible) Interesting reading..especially the bit at the bottom about buying ammo... Shot guns 6.14 Section 11(5) of the 1968 Act allows an individual, without holding a shot gun certificate, to borrow a shot gun from the occupier of private premises and use it on those premises in the occupier’s presence. The presence of the occupier is normally taken to mean within sight and earshot of the individual borrowing the firearm. The term “occupier†is not defined in the Firearms Acts,
  8. If she meets the background criteria she can sign both!
  9. You really do talk rubbish sometimes, are you trying to kill the guy! There is little or no .223 Mil surplus, it is 5.56 which will fit but is over pressure for .223, unless of course you can find some original shit 5.56 mil spec. But you are unlikely to know so don't **** about and don't use it!! Best zip it when you don't know what you are talking about!
  10. Get this 40 yards out of your head. Deben Tracer Mini Pro(250 yards) Put a red filter on it and you are down to 60 yards, it also has a dimmer so you will not scare bunnies miles away, but you can also scan the distance for the next quarry if you want! Put a red filter on the lower power units and you will just about see the end of your barrel! In addition it will still be useful if you ever get a rimfire! I have Mini Pro and Max Pro, they are not the best quality in the world but you get a complete kit, and my Mini is 9 years old and still going strong! Check the web fo
  11. You do not go into specifics of conviction...check this out... Persons Prohibited by Section 21 of the Firearms Acts from Possessing or Handling Firearms, Ammunition and Air-weapons. A person who has been sentenced to preventive detention, imprisonment or to corrective training for a term of three years or more; or who has been sentenced to be detained in a young offenders institution in Scotland, shall not, at any time, have a firearm or ammunition in his/her possession. This means for life and includes all firearms, even air weapons. A person who has been sentenced to bor
  12. ATB....just be careful you get what you want, what fits and what suits! Sportsman "can" sometimes be a little bit intimidating with them trying to sell you what they have!
  13. This .243/.308/whatever debate has been raging for years and it will never be resolved! Simple fact is there is NOTHING in this country you cannot stop with a .243! If you want/prefer/require/need .308 then fine. I have the choice of what to take out of the cabinet and rarely in the field do I find the need for the .308 over the .243! Yes, I take care where I put the shot, and I'm careful with ammo choice! Seems there are strong views from all camps on calibre, I see the answer as simple, if it works for you then use it, but no need for anyone to tell the rest of the world
  14. Yes, is the simple answer. Good for stopping them and control, but a bit noisy generally and a fairly close range tool, even with a 12g. The food issue seems to have cropped up and it is far from ideal if you are looking for personal food. Head shooting bunnies with a shotgun is not on for most mere mortals! ATB!
  15. Chap, with regard the criminal record you are of course correct, depending upon what it is actually for. But ferret boy charlie has a medical condition as well, add the two together and the chances of FAC must be VERY slim at the moment. Simple fact is none of us can say for sure, it is all down to his region, but the odds are far from favourable!
  16. Chap...you are fully justified in being surprised, I would not be at all happy. As I have already said this is not typical and I would certainly look into this a bit deeper!
  17. This ammo business really does get you scratching your head sometimes. I use Magtech Subs almost exclusively in my Silhouette and they work remarkably well for me! I am well aware of the views of many on this ammo, and yes I get the odd one that goes noisy! A few months back I was out with a pal who has exactly the same rifle as me and exactly the same moderator, and it is also a very similar age. He had used Eley from day one but was impressed with the way mine handled Magtech. We did a swap, I tried Eley and was disapointed to find little or no difference in accuracy, but they ar
  18. All stainless steel rifles are prone to RUST !!! The 'normal' ie. non rusting stainless steel is NOT used in rifles ! Although branded as all weather rifles they still need care and attention . Clean hands / light oil when put away and stored where there is little heat fluctuation . Tikka's can rust in hours if the barrel is touched by sweaty hands. Chap..Chill out, I made a brief response which was to the point and accurate. Stainless barrels are less prone to surface oxidation than most other metals used for barrels/actions. They handle temperature and general
  19. Lets not go there, let this one die away!

  21. for the DSC1. Gun wise there are very few bad brands, just a few bad guns that crop up from time to time. It tends to get personal! ATB!!
  22. More than capable for both and it p***** me off I can't legally use my .223 on Roe in England!
  23. One of the advantages of stainless is its durability in the damp etc, something doesn't seem right, I have 2 stainless and no "rust" issues at all.
  24. Off topic a bit, but how is the .22WMR holding up Stateside, I hear it is still pretty popular but your views would be appreciated. The WMR is having a hard time in the UK but is beginning to came back slightly into favour. I run a .22lr, .17HMR and .22WMR....as well as the centrefires, and rate the WMR on a number of levels!! Cheers
