  1. Great to see you are feeling a bit better, lets hope everything is 100% sorted asap! ATB!!!
  2. Perhaps this lot can help... http://www.freewebs.com/fclassuk/
  3. 12 carts are cheaper than 20 It can also be the case that 12g guns are cheaper than the equivalent 20g guns due to economies of scale MUCH wider choice of 12g guns A number 20g shotguns are based on 12g actions so little or no weight advantage in some (usually cheaper) 20g Expensive 20g shotguns (specifically designed 20's) will be a little lighter but will only be suitable for light/medium loads, put a heavy cartridge in them and you will feel it! You can do anything with a 12 you can do with a 20 but you can't do everything with a 20 you can with a 12 12g are used in
  4. what do you mean by bulk? do you mean thousand at a time or say 5 thousand at a time, because we wont have alot to spend on carts, all our money is going towards my sparsholt savings for accomodation , that and mortgage etc so this is just what tiny bit we have spare. and where is the cheast place for carts? and can you mail order carts? is that possible? Money is always an issue and cartridges have gone up a lot in the last 2 or 3 years. lets look at this from the financial viewpoint. 20g carts are more expensive than 12 on the whole, buying any cartridge a box at a time
  5. Either or both, but ...there are a million reasons why you should start with 12g! ATB
  6. You really do have issues! If you have something constructive to say then fine but I struggle with this personal abuse, if that is the extent of your infantile contributions I think it better you go back to the playground!
  7. Where do you get off with LIES and INVENTION like that! You are ******* me off now! You really do have issues!
  8. This .243/.308 (or any other calibre) has been argued for years and will not be resolved in this thread! I'd say there are a few answers, and also a lot of pointless rubbish. If anone is not happy using a .243 (or any other calibre for that matter) on any deer, then don't use it, simple as ...I am not and never have told anyone else to use that calibre...but kindly do not tell me it is not capable of putting down any Red Stag because you are not happy using it. Now, you can argue as much as you like, I'm off to bed for a few hours!
  9. Out all night, and off again later this afternoon, freezing cold and everything is soaked.... But this chap turned up...as ugly buggers go this one is ok....
  10. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, even you, and if you are not happy with a .243 don't use it, I find it strange that everyone who promotes the larger calibres appears to suggest they are all knowing and the .243 is not up to the job. Very few who use a .243 chastise anyone for using a larger caliber, do what makes you happy but kindly do not suggest I cannot put down a Red Stag with a .243! I have both, use what I need and find it very strange, in the light of comments from others, that EVERY time I hit any deer with a .243 if falls down, I don't even have to chase a corpse around
  11. Without going off topic too much, just wondering how many Stags you have shot? and if you have shot any with a .243 and if you have shot any with a .308 ? I'd not recommend shooting the big boys with the .243" you are simply just under gunned IMHO, yes if you hit the spot you'll kill the beast but compare the results with that of a .308 and believe me, you'll not bother with the .243. It amazes me how many people are hung up on the .243" as if they haven't got anything better to use, the .243" is just deer legal and most have a twist rate not suited to heavier bullets as in reality the .2
  12. Can't believe it can be serious, certainly hope it's not anyway, he's always working and playing outdoors and can walk me into the ground!! ATB FD...See you again soon I hope!!
  13. You have a stronger stomach than me, just the once was plenty...bad as it is, hospital food wins hands down!!!
  14. little meat damage with a 243? i have seen a few roe shot with 243 and the meat damage was very bad... if i was faced with a 20stone red stag and only had a 243 i would feel slighly uneasy... main reason i wanted a 270 was because of the flat trajectory.. I tend to agree with Holland, and meat damage is NOT necessarily about the calibre, although there are general inherent differences in calibres, the TYPE of bullet used also tends to make a lot of difference. Not sure why you would feel uneasy faced with a 20stone red and a .243, you have the power to put him down at 500-60
  15. ........... everyone is entitled to an opinion, if you can't knock down a deer with a .243 then fine, is anyone telling you that you need to use a .243, use something bigger if you are happier, strange thing is every time I hit one with a .243 it falls down! Even stranger when I hit the right ones with my .223, even the Roe in Scotland, they fall down as well, very odd!! Probably because I was too close and didn't give them a chance... my furthest is still just under 300 yards, so any real deer stalkers will need a bigger calibre for all those 400-500 yard deer! I am doing some
  16. I know very little about this calibre. From what I understand they are all based on the .308 cartridge and the 7mm08 sits between the .243 and .308! For some reason, not very common over here!! Pretty sure I've never used one it but sounds like it's worth a look!
  17. I struggle to see there will be anything much between them accuracy wise. What Calibre and what do you want to do with them? Neither would be my choice, but if pushed the Sako, but it gets personal and they are just not what I want, everyone selects a gun for a different reason, I doubt you will go wrong with either! Hope it works out for you!
  18. Deker We only have Red, Falow and Sika here in Ireland. There are a few Mountjac but not many and they are to be shot on sight, no closed season for the Mountjac. Frankly I'd still be very easy with a .243 but certainly an arguement for a .308! The .243 is easy to shoot, actually my Rem 700SPS .308 is a pussy cat as .308 go, but some can be a little hard on the shoulder! Fortunately, with my .223 as well, I have lots of options. ATB!!!
  19. You are likely to get as many comments here as from the dealers, and for a lot of different reasons! I know little about deer in Ireland, what varieties do you have? .243 and .308 are without doubt the most popular this side of the water and offer a lot of ammo choice and therefore options between them. I have BOTH, and a .223 which I use without any problem whatsoever as appropriate! I consider a .308 too heavy for Roe (although they go with it sometimes) and massive overkill for CWD or Muntjac which are only the size of a medium/large dog! Frankly I have no issues with a
  20. Anybodies guess but I would suggest Kite from the limited description....... quick guide, the Kite has distinct V shape tail feathers, the Buzzard has a fan shaped tail, the difference is unmissable when you know....but there are of course other possible birds..and I'm no bird expert!
  21. Factory loads tend to be between around 2800-3500ft sec! Home brew boys will get them slower or hotter if they want, loads of other factors effect muzzle speed of course!! I suggest a rough average would be around 3200(ish)ft sec!
  22. Got them from one of my locals - PM you his if you want, but it's norfolk - and paid £23/100 Will report on their performance, although I'm very embarrassed to say I am currently scopeless... So accuracy reporting may not be meaningful. Max working range is about 60 yards for rabbits. So just to bang it home: Cheers for that! I would be real interested in your view on the ammo when you get to check it properly. I'm struggling a bit with the ballistics of these and the CCI equivilent, as far as I can see the bullet is the same and the muzzle velocity and energy of bot
  23. In essence yes, almost certainly the best option, but in this context it was Semi Auto or O/U, in which case the O/U wins hands down!!
  24. In principle I would tend to agree, problem is there are many .243 out there that get very funny when you stick a 100g down them, so whatever, a level of trial and error will be involved to find what suits the gun!
  25. Deker, there was no reason at all to swear. You my man are full of the proverbial and anyone on this or any other forum who has spent any real time managing deer will know this. I have nothing at all to prove to you or anyone else as I have reached the dizzy heights of as far as I can go in the UK with regards to shooting & stalking. You have much to learn but not from me as I wouldn't want you in 100 miles of any land I shoot over. So you keep doing what you do and keep making me smile with your "professional attitude" . Any and all unwanted parts are left discreetly on site ....a WHOLE
