There you go then, Parker Hale or SAK, but my money is on the SAK! ATB!!

They seemed to be a sort of urban mtyth until very recently . Heard of but not seen .Like you I'll use em (if they shoot straight) but I'm not sure that they are sub-sonic ??? Someone will know . CCI 0074 .22lr Segmented Hollow Point 40g 1050ft sec at muzzle...so Sub Sonic!! Also listed CCI 0064 .22lr Segmented Hollow Point 32g 1640ft sec at muzzle!! I have yet to hear of any being in the UK yet...... Anyone got some?????

I've had a fair few over the years and all situations and circumstances are different, the best answer I can give, without trying to be flippant is ...Find somewhere that has a lot and shoot straight!

we could say that about all rifles ttho. someone says get 22/250 its better then 223. and then someone says get 243 its better then 22/250. then get a 260 its better then 243 and so on. i like some of the older 222 rifles because they are built to very high spec. and the rifles on the market now build wise dont compare. Like he said, the 222/223 debate has been done to death and intrinsically nothing wrong with either. But times chance, and it isn't simply power, if you are NOT into reloading, and buying new today the .223 seems to make more sense!

Following one or two comments here I really am beginning to wonder if we have some bad ammo in the UK. I have established that 16,000 Hornady .22 V-Max WMR have been imported into the UK. This is almost certainly part of a single production run! The results I achieved with this ammo were disapointing to say the least, whereas the Hornady .17HMR 17g V-Max are excellent in my HMR. Makes you think eh!!!

I think I would have a job to add anything to what SS has said above. Capable, but only in very limited circumstances and best suited for slaughtering/humane despatch!

Personally, there is nothing wrong with the Remmingtons (I have a 700 Tactical in 22.250 but much modified). Having said that all rifles are a bit like cars - two people can buy a Ford Focus, one has no problems the other nothing but problems. Given the choice in your situation I would look more seriously at the Sako - generally a better build. Why on earth are you changing from 6.5 to 270? The 6.5 is only about 1.5" lower at 200 yards and a much sweeter calibre to shoot. I tried the 270 then the 6.5 - still with the 6.5 Sako will have the quality edge, but in saying that noth

Strange as it may seem at 100 yards the 20g .17HMR fly slightly higher and slightly left of the 17g in mine! Lots of different subs and high velocity in .22lr which fly a lot different to each other. Bottom line is, change ammo and check your zero every time!
-
Lets start by saying again I suggest a 22-250 is the dedicated Fox tool! But Sorry chap, I have to dissagree on noise, I have shot side by side with a .22-250 and the noise issue was apparent immediately! Choice of factory ammo is also wider for .223 than for 22-250, different situation if you are reloading! That's why my choice would be .223! ATB! well my rifle with ase mod shooting next to my mates 223 with same mod you wouldnt no the difference. also i shoot with a lad that has 22/250ai with ase mod and even he said his rifle now was less noise then his old tikka 223 with

Looking at the dates you mention above this would have also come up at the SGC renewal, how did you deal with it then?
-
They are noisy, little or nothing noise wise between any of the ammo! 17g V-Max (ballistic tips) tend to work best in the rifle, the 20g are usually all over the place but mine just shot a very good group in gusty conditions with the 20g Gamepoint. The ballistic tips are an excellent rabbit round, but tend to be very frangible, the 20g arguably have more stopping power and tend to hold their energy a little better. The bullets behave very differently upon arrival! The rifle is best with 17g V-max in my view and is designed to deal with whatever 17g V-max can deal with. The 20g s

It doesn't work like that, it's down to you and your FEO and the type/topography/situation of the land, many centrefires have the potential to shoot over 3 miles so 50-850 acres is pretty irrelevant! .17HMR is far from an ideal calibre for fox in my mind. My .22lr, .17HMR and .22WMR are all conditioned for fox, as are all my centrefires, bottom line is I rate the .17HMR worst of the lot, yep, even worse than the .22lr! If you are after a 100% dedicated fox gun and you need distance then a 22-250 is the tool, minus side is they are noisy, ammo is limited and expensive and they have the

Anyone Else Had Problems With GMK
Deker replied to Night Hunter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I suspect you will find someone in Finland who speeks English but I also suspect they will direct you to GMK. Not sure if I have just been fortunate but my Tikkas all shoot (but the .223 T3 Lite took me 2 years and a fortune to get some reasonable balance into it). Everyone suggests they are on another level to Remington, and that was the general impression I had until I got one. I have a 700SPS Stainless in .308 which also shoots, and frankly I don't see much difference in overall build quality to the Tikka! Like I say, perhaps I have been lucky, and from what I hear generally ma -
The .308 and .243 are BOTH as close as I can measure 13mm deep, the .308 simply made a wider hole, interesting, as the metal is 12mm, so if you filed the bump flat on the back there would be 3 holes clean through the plate, due to the quality of the steel flexing I suspect. The .223 is 6mm deep! This could get deep and I don't know the answer, so how come the .243 with approx 50% more power than the .223 made a 13mm deep hole and wider as well? And how come both the .308 made the same depth of hole as the .243 but wider still, when they were approx double the power of the .223?? O

The plate is 12mm thick steel, I will find out exactly what it is known as next time I'm at the steel stockholder...he wants to see the results as well. Speaks for itself really, but the .223 was a 62g FMJ and not a 55g. Front view and rear view. Plate was 100yards down line for all shots! It is much more impressive than it looks, pictures taken on my phone, sorry I don't haave a better camera and I'm not a better photographer!

Who knows then, either a part or manufacturing problem, good to see Edgar Bros on the case!

This was done yesterday morning and I make no suggestion it is a foolproof scientific test, but interesting. Rifle CZ Silhouette 22" barrel and Sirocco Mod. Figures in brackets are manufacturers spec. Muzzle reading was approx 1.5metres in front of muzzle but 100 yard is accurate. Hornady 17g V-Max muzzle 2463ft sec (2550) 100yards 1824ft sec (1901) CCI 20g Gamepoint muzzle 2293ft sec (2375) 100yards 1701ft sec (1754) Groups at 100 yards. 17g V-Max 1.3" (5 shots) 20g Gamepoint 1.0" (8 shots) This is completely opposite to the norm I have experienced and is probably t

Prime example of why you never point a gun at anything you don't want to shoot!! Sadly, nothing is perfect and things go wrong, is the rifle old or new, has it had a lot of use and was the trigger adjusted very light. On the whole these are very good and very reliable but in the event of problems Edgar Bros are likely to be able to supply parts or repair quite quickly!

The proof mark can be a bit of a red herring...once you screw it on a firearm, proof mark or not, it becomes a firearm and the police must be advised!

Tikka T3 Lite or Remington SPS DM. Know litte about the Savage!
-
First off this is NOT scientific and results achieved are in my rifle, with me shooting it in a rather unfortunately gusty side wind! The V-Max .22WMR is meant to be fast and accurate and hold it's energy well as suggested by both CCI and Hornady. The CCI 30g V-Max has better published figures than the Hornady 30g V-Max, I have contacted CCI direct and they very promptly responded saying they did not know why theres was better as "they are the same product", suggesting it was simply a difference in the "computer model", must admit I thought they would have tested them properly!! I have a T3 Lite in .223 and a T3 Hunter in .243, BOTH shoot pretty well and I have no issues as you have outlined. Does seem a shame as the odd bad one appears to crop up from time to time and the very worst part of the Tikka situation is ...you have to deal with GMK!! Hope you get it sorted asap! ATB
