  1. I don't know the law North of the border anywhere near as well as South, but I thought deer were OFF the menu for Sunday shooting in Scotland. Perhaps it's an old law that nobody takes any notice of, or perhaps it's just tradition, then again perhaps I'm wrong, but a definitive answer from someone who knows for sure would be interesting!
  2. I just changed my O/U for a semi auto recently.I do alot of pigeon shooting therefore I'm in a hide most of the time so it's no hassle reloading quickly. With that being said if you are out walking doing rough shooting, then I find the semi can be a pain to carry. I guess alot depends on what type of shooting you plan to do. The other issue with the gun holding 3 shells is you need a certain approval on your SGC. I'm not 100% sure what the exact approval is but I'm sure if you ask your local police branch they will be able to tell you. I'm a little confused, most Semis are lighter t
  3. Hi Blackfox, I'm just having a think about getting a lighter CF caliber somewhere in between my rim fires IE .17HMR, .22LR, and my .22-250, for foxes, I want it because from time to time I shoot close to residential houses at night (some have tree huggers within thier walls) on the edge of some my permissions, and I find the crack from my .22-250 even with the t8 moderator is quite loud. So I was thinking of a .204, .22Hornet, or .222, as an addition to my Cert. if my FAO agrees, I use my .22-250 also for roe, so I would not be giving this one up. Bob. Reading the above, the Horne
  4. Very close, I was recently aproached by someone needing a letter or mentoring for the .17HMR. I agreed to help with the letter, but only on the basis we did it right, so I took him up to my club to be checked out by the RCO and other officials, and then a few weeks of hunting trips out. Job done, he actually called me yesterday to say his FAC had just arrived!
  5. He appears to have a very big mouth and a very small brain, this sort of stupidity gets all shooters a bad name!
  6. I have an SPS Stainless in .308 with the X-Mark Pro trigger. I cut 3" off the barrel, stuck a P8 Compact on the end of it and adjusted the trigger. It shoots 1" easily with cheap PRVI 150g SP, does for me!
  7. This is what the blurb says, but do you have one, is it any good, seems rather like a muzzle break to me.....I'm thinking about it but could do with some opinions..Cheers Wildcat Cub Moderator for Rimfire Cartridges New for 2007 the Wildcat Cub Moderator for Rimfire Cartridges is suitable for use with all rim fire cartridges. Light weight, short and very efficient. With ½" UNF thread. The Cub is made from High Tec Delrin and will not rust and is totally strippable for cleaning and easy re-assembly. The Cub comes pre-proofed for .17HMR so can be fitted to .17HMR, .22 magnum and
  8. Not a clue, never heard of them, but found this>>>> The Essex is a trade name for shotguns made by the Crescent-Davis Firearms Co. on shotguns made for the Belknap Hardware Co of Louisville, Kentucky. There were a couple of dozen various models made and without knowledge of exactly which model that you have I can only advise that the average retail value of one in "good" condition varies from about $350 to $600. As for parts, contact the Numrich Gun Parts Co. at www.e-gunparts.com
  9. I hate ear defenders in every respect but wear ear plugs when on the range or clay shooting, not in the field hunting. There are electronic defenders available that simply cut back on sudden noise like the BANGS but let you talk "normally" check out the web.... Bisley Electronic Ear Defenders Excellent ear defenders from Bisley, the quality name in shooting Electronic circuitry amplifies noise so you can still hear voices as normal, in fact better than normal - then the intelligent electronics cuts out the noise passage sound as soon as a shot is detected. This saves you
  10. It's there to compensate for parallax (many air rifle scopes are parallax set at 30-40 yards and centrefire set at 100yards), a problem that only really effects a very small number of shooters. But it just so happens that when your eyes start to go, like mine, it can help you see the quarry as well http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallax ATB
  11. I have lost 3 days shooting this week and looks like another today, filthy weather! Yes..call me a tart if you like, but when it's p*****g down, blowing a gale and cold I tend to find much of the quarry stays tucked up as well. Always another day though, and nothing to complain about really compared to all the poor souls that have been flooded out!
  12. The guns are solid and well put together on the whole, and tend to shoot pretty well, can't say I've ever heard any horror stories about them! Bit on the expensive side though, and not for me! Out of interest, why .222, not a calibre I would consider at all today, if you load yourself perhaps, but .223 just seems the way to go in that area!
  13. That seems reasonable to me, I think mine was about that give or take £20, cost a lot more by the time I had the barrel screwcut for the moderator, mounts, scope, sling, bullets, cleaning rod, bore cleaner, rifle case, bipod! I had the stainless steel heavy barrel. Sometimes wish I had gone for the lighter barrel and slightly shorter, it is not one for quickly popping out the side window of the motor! But I went for a big PES over sleeve moderator which doesn't help. If you are using it for foxing go for a 8x56 scope. Cheers Dave Schmidt & Bender 6 x 42 is best for FOXES and roe,
  14. Rapid 7 wins every time in my book. I have a Falcon running at 26ft lb and it is remarkably accurate, but in honesty the Rapid 7 is a better bet, but no more accurate. Be careful how high you go, 30ft lb tends to work pretty well with several pellets but anything much over that and you are likely to start having accuracy problems....unless you use the heavy and expensive "bullet type" pellets but then they will fall like a stone.
  15. ASE are good, but you may want to look at these..... Predator 8 COMPACT version http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/sound_moderators.htm
  16. No problem charging them both together or seperately. There is an argument to charge together as they will discharge together, but, because of manufacturing tolerances they will almost certainly last a different time (although similar) so perhaps consider charging seperately. Bottom line is if the green light goes off quick they are either fully charged or there is a problem somewhere!! OK, one battery is charging and one isn't not happy will leave overnight and see what happens Something seems amiss, that should not be the case, have you checked all the

  19. AGS scopes have been made by Leapers forever (unless something has changed VERY recently). Optically they are really pretty good, dialing in is not good at all, and generally holding zero could be rated as just about acceptable. Reticles are down to use and personal choice..I like Mil Dot and use it on ALL my rifles! They are a budget scope, and in that bracket can be considered more than worth thinking about!

  21. I've not had a .222, but know those that have/do, I have a .223 and there is not a lot of difference at all, but logically a .223 is the tool to buy today over a .222. But if you already have a .222 you are not going to notice any great difference at all to a .223, perhaps just an edge! If the situation does dictate a change of gun I would nevertheless suggest you consider a .223 carefully! Both are more than capable of fox at the distance you suggest and further!
  22. If it has been passed for .22lr it will not need to be checked again. If you put in for a bigger calibre it will need to be!
  23. This is a cracking tool, around 6/7 years old and in great condition, I have decided to treat myself to a Christmas present and I'm buying myself a new one of these. The rifle comes complete with a proofed Sako Mod, the scope/mounts and sling are NOT included. Barrel is 16.5 inches. The gun works a treat and any potential purchaser is more than welcome to try before they buy. I'm just feeling a bit of a tart and want a new one (I'm buying EXACTLY the same again). Any questions then feel free to ask. I know what it's worth..take a look on.... guntrader.co.uk y
  24. I recon Snap Shot has got it pretty spot on...a semi will help with recoil in every respect, especially the latest Beretta range. Noise will always be an issue with shotgun, hence why attempts have been made to address this issue. I don't see a complete answer to your problems though. ATB!
  25. There is not too much that is impossible...BUT...original barrel thickness must be considered when boring it out and chamber length, and serious tools and skills are required for such an operation. As it happens I know a man who has the tools and skills but the price will most commonly make it prohibitive!
