  1. Didn't see that first time round...like I said above this has nothing to do with cartridge weight/power in my view. The Guns operate in a very similar way to the Hatsan, which also has this problem, as the cartridge ejects the next is loaded and a stop catch pushes up to hold the last cartridge in the magazine. If the spring gets slack then it does not push up fast enough to hold the last cartridge back and therefore you get a jam. An alternate is to use a longer cartridge as this gives the spring time to push up the catch...as you have found...it's a standard replacement part on t
  2. Odds are the cartridge hold spring (catch) has got a little floppy, try a longer cartridge, if that works then I was right. Have you changed to a shorter cartridge recently?? Worth a try regardless! I don't see this one as related to the cartridge power! But hey hoe, funny things happen sometimes!
  3. The Hornet is not the tool for this in my view, and unfortunately I know very little about the 17 Ackley Hornet. I cannot help but think, with the brief you list, the .204 is the tool for the job, but I can't see you reloading it for 20p I'd be interested to hear which route you take in the end!
  4. The earlier 3" magnums would NOT cycle short cartridges, fell apart and several blew up the barrels! This was down to terrible quality control, materials and design. Apparently there have been some improvements!
  5. wildfowling, rough shooting and pigeon shooting Almost any semi (not a Hatsan) with a 3inch or better chamber is what you need for your list! 12g, 28" barrel and multichoke! Do the lot!
  6. Had to have a break and go and make a cuppa in the middle of reading that lot!! Nevertheless, a great read and a good time by the sound of things!
  7. I think it is well known on this site that I have little time for officialdom, exams, tests, restrictions etc, etc but I still abide by the law! Unfortunately, many of the threads I have seen in the airgun section have been asking for a ban for years. There are some prime idiots here who seem to not only be brain dead but simply don't care either. Does it not occur to them that idiotic post on public forums are read by all and sundry and continued stupid posts lead to the individuals/groups own demise! It is a shame for all normal, sensible, reasonable airgun owners,(the majority of
  8. OK, several enquiries and one likely, also a local prospective purchaser lined up. If you do have a serious interest please confirm, as all being well I will be getting the new rifle next Saturday, and if the deal has not been done privately then I will trade the gun. Cheers
  9. Never used Decoys for the fox, certainly baited for him, commonly with rabbit, so interested to see peoples views on "decoys". I have found though, if a fox finds his food source and becomes a nuisance he becomes a creature of habit and tends to be relatively straightforward to ambush! Hence food bait. If you don't have a source of rabbit, then the cheapest tinned dog food you can find tends to work pretty well! Bait/stink pits sounds a better bet to me than decoys, but perhaps there is a place for both in some situations!
  10. I know several people with Rapid 7 and without exception they all have at least 2 buddy bottles. They are not cheap, but for the occassional shooter they can save you money. Many air rifle dealers will be able to simply charge your buddy bottle which saves buying all the other charging malarky!
  11. Each to their own but heres another viewpoint.... ....but why not try to achieve the best possible performance there is... This can only be achieved by being very specialised. Enjoy yourself and by all means experiment, but by doing so and achieving the best you can, you become VERY specialist with barrels, loads, bullets, quarry and distances. And you are unlikely to end up with a hunting rifle, most likely a wait and ambush rifle as it will be too heavy and too long to cart around. Don't forget, you will also need to spend a fortune on glass as well if you expect extreme perf
  12. We have had this debate many times before and you need 2 rifles...BUT...if you can only get one consider the .22WMR very carefully. Not as quiet as a sub sonic .22LR (nothing is) but better on fox than either .22lr or HMR, much less likely to bounce than .22lr, and a wider choice of ammo than HMR and Cheaper than HMR. PS. out with the HMR with 17g V-Max tonight and got a hum dinger of a ricochet on damp grass!
  13. If you want it and can justify it you can have it! As an aside, asking for a second to take your friend shooting is NOT usually going to be a valid reason, but once you get it you are perfectly entitled in the right circumstances!
  14. Looks nice SR hi bob its only 6lb unscoped as i wanted a light rifle for when i was tabbin around, it does move around a bit but i like it like that, i can watch the target impact as the recoil does not cause you to loose the sight picture, the rifle is a Mckillop rifles .20tac, and i hope to have another one of niels made next year a .20br bob. Now I can see why you are so excited about it, I have only known Neil for just over a year but he has already done some first class work for me and others I have put on to him. Can't believe it took me so long to find
  15. I don't know the law North of the border anywhere near as well as South, but I thought deer were OFF the menu for Sunday shooting in Scotland. Perhaps it's an old law that nobody takes any notice of, or perhaps it's just tradition, then again perhaps I'm wrong, but a definitive answer from someone who knows for sure would be interesting!
  16. I just changed my O/U for a semi auto recently.I do alot of pigeon shooting therefore I'm in a hide most of the time so it's no hassle reloading quickly. With that being said if you are out walking doing rough shooting, then I find the semi can be a pain to carry. I guess alot depends on what type of shooting you plan to do. The other issue with the gun holding 3 shells is you need a certain approval on your SGC. I'm not 100% sure what the exact approval is but I'm sure if you ask your local police branch they will be able to tell you. I'm a little confused, most Semis are lighter t
  17. Hi Blackfox, I'm just having a think about getting a lighter CF caliber somewhere in between my rim fires IE .17HMR, .22LR, and my .22-250, for foxes, I want it because from time to time I shoot close to residential houses at night (some have tree huggers within thier walls) on the edge of some my permissions, and I find the crack from my .22-250 even with the t8 moderator is quite loud. So I was thinking of a .204, .22Hornet, or .222, as an addition to my Cert. if my FAO agrees, I use my .22-250 also for roe, so I would not be giving this one up. Bob. Reading the above, the Horne
  18. Very close, I was recently aproached by someone needing a letter or mentoring for the .17HMR. I agreed to help with the letter, but only on the basis we did it right, so I took him up to my club to be checked out by the RCO and other officials, and then a few weeks of hunting trips out. Job done, he actually called me yesterday to say his FAC had just arrived!
  19. He appears to have a very big mouth and a very small brain, this sort of stupidity gets all shooters a bad name!
  20. I have an SPS Stainless in .308 with the X-Mark Pro trigger. I cut 3" off the barrel, stuck a P8 Compact on the end of it and adjusted the trigger. It shoots 1" easily with cheap PRVI 150g SP, does for me!
  21. This is what the blurb says, but do you have one, is it any good, seems rather like a muzzle break to me.....I'm thinking about it but could do with some opinions..Cheers Wildcat Cub Moderator for Rimfire Cartridges New for 2007 the Wildcat Cub Moderator for Rimfire Cartridges is suitable for use with all rim fire cartridges. Light weight, short and very efficient. With ½" UNF thread. The Cub is made from High Tec Delrin and will not rust and is totally strippable for cleaning and easy re-assembly. The Cub comes pre-proofed for .17HMR so can be fitted to .17HMR, .22 magnum and
  22. Not a clue, never heard of them, but found this>>>> The Essex is a trade name for shotguns made by the Crescent-Davis Firearms Co. on shotguns made for the Belknap Hardware Co of Louisville, Kentucky. There were a couple of dozen various models made and without knowledge of exactly which model that you have I can only advise that the average retail value of one in "good" condition varies from about $350 to $600. As for parts, contact the Numrich Gun Parts Co. at www.e-gunparts.com
  23. I hate ear defenders in every respect but wear ear plugs when on the range or clay shooting, not in the field hunting. There are electronic defenders available that simply cut back on sudden noise like the BANGS but let you talk "normally" check out the web.... Bisley Electronic Ear Defenders Excellent ear defenders from Bisley, the quality name in shooting Electronic circuitry amplifies noise so you can still hear voices as normal, in fact better than normal - then the intelligent electronics cuts out the noise passage sound as soon as a shot is detected. This saves you
  24. It's there to compensate for parallax (many air rifle scopes are parallax set at 30-40 yards and centrefire set at 100yards), a problem that only really effects a very small number of shooters. But it just so happens that when your eyes start to go, like mine, it can help you see the quarry as well http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallax ATB
