  4. been out today and done some testing with the different brands. After doing the work on the stock and tightening the screws it turns out that the best groups were from the hornady blue tips!. Load of fuss about nothing in the end. Thanks to all that responded to this posting, sometimes it is better to get an opinion from others rather than try to work things out for yourself.
  5. After double checking I did find that the action screws were not as tight as they should have been. The barrel was almost touching the forend on one side.Sorted this and went and tried the blue tips again along with the federals and remmies. Not much time as it was getting dark. First impressions were that the groups were smaller at 100 yds.Shot 3 groups of 5 with all brands with the remmies the best followed by the blue tips with the federal noticably worse. I was a bit at the hurry up as the light was fading and my base was not as firm as I would normally test under. Got soaked later and was
  6. Thanks for the info.I have now got some federal and remmie so I will be out testing as soon as the wind drops a bit Thanks Tony
  7. Thanks for the help. I will try those this weekend. Can I ask about your set up and cleaning routine. As I mentioned in the original post I was gutted when the blue tips started flying all over the place. I am getting nothing like you are although I can get touching groups with my reloads on the tikka t3 223 at 100 yds. I have the thumbhole stock fitted with a wildcat mod and Zeiss conquest 6x20x50. Any info would be great Thanks Tony
  8. Hi Need help! Getting bad results from my 1517 when using blue tipped hornady 17g. Red tips were a little beter but was never really happy with them. Tested gun yesterday after testing reloads for my 223 which were very good. Groups for 1517 very poor indeed (all over the place with mod on or off. Barrel clean and gun supported . 100 yd groups about 2 and half inch with flyers happening on every group. My previous CZ was the reverse as I had the same problem with remmies and the red tips worked OK. Please let me know if you have the same set up and your preferences. I am going to start o
  9. Hi I have the same rifle and mod as you. I am not happy with the groups I am getting with Blue tip hornady. What groups are you getting at 100 yds ? Funny the red tips were better. I have not tried the remmies as these did not like my previous CZ where the hornady did. Thanks Tony
  10. Hi dont know what primers norma use but i use/like cci & the br primers have a small b on them so you easy know. As for you slightly diffrent POI that is more likely to be down to the diffrent primers as they ignite at diffrent speed/heat thus give off diffrent pressures. Word of warnning back off by a grain if you are using cci-br or match primers as the burn hotter & create higher pressure so if you are at max load with 1 of these primers they will cause more pressure signs. Thanks for the advice. I will start at mid point so that I can build up to the exact speed of the factory
  11. Hi I will soon begin to reload norma 223 once fired cases.I purchased 2 lots which seem to have different primers. One iS a silver metal the other is gold. They both group excellent but do have a slightly different impact point. My question is doe's anyone know what primers Norma use ? I will be using CCI BR and a mix of hornady vmax in 50gn and sierra blitzking in 40 and 50 gn. I will gladly listen to any recommendations Thanks Tony
  12. I think everybody has missed the point. Why do you need it opened ?
  13. Hi I have had both the ASE and am now using the whisper on my Anshultz HMR. The whisper IN MY OPINION is definely quieter. The sound at the rifle is changed into more of a "thud" rather than a " crack. Tony
