This is always difficult to answer as I have several rifles to select from, this has also been done many times and there is a lot in the archives to look up, I seem to remember the poll was pretty close between .223, 22.250 and .243. Anyway. The reason for the result was quite simply because everyone comes at this with their own agenda, I have a .223 and a .243 and with the ammo choices available I have no requirement for a 22-250. As someone else said, not that many foxes are taken past 200yards, and you should be able to do that with a .223 without too much trouble, to be honest

Your FEO can tell you whatever he wants, and unfortunately he is perfectly within his rights to come and see you at any reasonable time to discuss anything Firearms related he likes with you. Such is life. Please let us know what the meeting was about when all is done.

Yep No, simply because as "individual" hunters we can never comply with the requirements of storage and transportation of meat. The Environmental heath would have a field day. The hunter exemption does NOT exempt you from: being considered as a food business operator; registration of food businesses, traceability, FBOs responsibilities, HACCP, maintaining the cold chain and the probable need to provide a chiller (see game larders, including temperature controls); requirements for hygienic transport including maintaining the cold chain (both for the in-fur/infeather gam

Do you sell venison to food serving businesses? If you do, put your money where you mouth is and state names and address. Quantities and prices sold and dates. I am sure the businesses would be happy with the free publicity; If not, stop talking codswallop. Supplying *any* venison (deer / hare /boar) to a GAME dealer is a totally different circumstance to supply food outlets such as pubs, clubs, restaurants or even burger vans! There is also a vast difference between putting venison etc into the food chain and supplying to a registered game dealer who then puts the venison in to the food chain

A lot more complex. I'm certainly not going to educate pork, that's for sure. I'll get straight to the point. I have a LOT of dealings with Environmental health in the course of my business and they will make mince meat of most amateur stalkers. If they were to be called to a food incident and the supply of meat was traced back to you, then by god you had better have a bloody good set up, bloody good insurance and every certificate you can obtain, because if you haven't they will make every effort to make sure you and every other stalker never attempts to back door venison again. You will als

Very sweeping, many are fooled into believing you must have all sorts of certificates to put venison etc into the food chain...not so...unless it is your primary business..... http://www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/wildgameguide1007.pdf

Roe and Muntjac eat the best in my view, MUCH of what you get in the Supermarkets and at many restaurants is Farmed Red! And yes, you can taste the differance in a Free Range Organic Shot Deer!

CZ is probably the best value for money workhorse you will ever need!

Guys..we should not be having this debate, it is one of the reasons the Firearms laws need a big overhaul and the regions need to start singing from the same Hymn sheet!
-
This one comes round and round and is an anomaly. Fact is you have to justify each calibre and its uses, how can a .22lr sub at around 100ft lb be equated to a .22WMR at around 325ft lb. This is simply another difference in regional interpretation and just one of the reasons why all the firearms legislation needs a major overhaul!
-
Ric, I'm a little confused by the first line, are you saying all .22lr Subsonic is HP?? Err.....The same rounds are used for field and target .....which round would that be that both field and target boys use? This may well be another regional thing, but you do not get zeroing entered automatically in every region, so best to ask for it up front! Hopefully most FEO would steer candidates in this direction during the interview.

40- yards on a .22lr...,lets get realistic here. The .22lr has no recoil to talk of, any scope will do, absolutely no need to spend loads of money, my rimfires all have Hawke or JSR scopes, they all work and they hit things. Dusk and dawn only last so long and if the lamp is any good the scope is irrelevant! I struggle with comments about needing good optics for lamping, you don't, you just need a lamp that works! If you have the money and want to push the boat out then fine, but you are not talking about a 500 yard tool with heavy recoil here.
-
To be honest most will be adequate for a .22lr. Pro Mounts, Sportsmatch, BSA, Gun Tuff, Leapers, etc, etc, you don't need to spend £35, Ive got or had many, never had a problem! Take a look at JSR, any will do!

No need, "zeroing" is not a legal reason to hold a firearm. John Yes in my experience, hunting and target are legitimate reasons but your FAC needs to be conditioned for all use, zeroing is another use which is NOT hunting or target. Some regions may put this down as standard but it is not a good thing to "expect" anything, if you want it ask for it!

Every gun/barrel will favour a particular round, but it does appear the Eley subs are quite accurate in many. Their HP leave more than a bit to be desired though, it is small and slow to expand commonly, the Winchester and Magtech HP is enormous and peels back very well on the whole creating a massive wound channel and rapid demise of the quarry!

22lr HMR WMR ammo pouch

Seems familiar...spare magazines wins it hands down for ease/speed/convenience, the only minus point is it can be quite an expensive option! -
Had some work done on the .223

That only allows for humane dispatch where they have been injured, for example if they've broken a leg, or been hit by a car, stuff like that. The Regulatory Reform (Deer) (England and Wales) Order 2007 A person shall not be guilty of an offence under section 4(1) or (2) above by reason of the use of any reasonable means for the purpose of killing any deer if he reasonably believes that the deer has been so seriously injured, otherwise than by his unlawful act, or is in such condition, that to kill it is an act of mercy.†Where section 4 is section 4 of the Deer act, which sets ou

Would I get an open FAC first time?
Deker replied to LordGamebore's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I think you will find this is a regional thing, no particular reason why it shoud be, but I do get the impression an Open Fac is easier to obtain north of the border! You really have to put a case, and then some, to get it Open on first grant in much of England! -
Deben but Outdoor Connection, Supersling 2 or the padded Supersling, These come with the Talon Swivels fitted, they are on most of my rifles now and as other slings give up I am converting everything to the Supersling, my lad insists on them too! It gets personal of course but I rate them. Check around for the best prices, you can always save a few £ off list!!

Would I get an open FAC first time?
Deker replied to LordGamebore's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
If you can present the right case you will. Some areas further North/Scotland do seem a little easier, but if you can show the right need, attitude, etc, etc, you may. Not that easy generally but it happens! -
The Winchester have a much bigger HP than the Eley and tend to open up more on impact, making a bigger hole and doing more damage, hence the different impact tone commonly!
-
As has already been said there are perfectly legal ways of shooting deer with shotguns (ALL SPECIES)and the part that most can make work in most situations is ..... or any other form of property on the land Remember it is also legal to shot them for humane dispatch as well, under the Deer Act Amendment 2007. I have to suggest that there are times when a shotgun may be the preferred option, but without doubt most commonly the rifle will be the most appropriate tool!

Are you into antlers, always difficult to tell from pictures but they look like medal contenders to me!!
