Flippen 'ek!!! 2lb out of the box!! For a Field centrefire I wouldn't put that at heavy at all. You will have a job getting the majority of field centrefires down that low, the Older Remington 700 used to come in as heavy as 8.5lb pull and the X mark pro are nowhere near 2lb. Most CZ rimfires come in around the 4lb mark, and you can't get them down to 2lb without the kit! I personally believe anything much under 2 for centrefires is not safe in the field. Target work is a whole different world of course! Just my view!

Lockable containter for ammunition.
Deker replied to LordGamebore's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I guess it's me being dumb again but I'm a bit confused, are you talking shotgun or rifle cartridges, there is a significant difference in the law? Did your FEO not inspect your cabinet/storage arrangements at the time of Grant? Cheers -
That seems the most obvious route, can't help thinking it will be the cheapest route too! I had my full length .308 700SPS cut from new ...flippin ek, I can't remember if it was 3 or 4 inches I took off it...3" I think, much more manageable and it does what I want!

All sorts of reasons why it is acceptable to have a couple of the same calibre, perhaps some regions take a tougher view. .17HMR Silhouette 4-16 Hawke VarmintII Sirocco .22LR Silhouette 3-12 Hawke VarmintII SAK .22LR Style 4-16 JSR Target Pro SAK .22WMR American 4-16 JSR Target Pro Sako Nothing stays the same, the Style is now on my lads FAC, the WMR is gone and replaced by a new one (same scope) but a SAK on the end of it, and the HMR now has a Sidewinder on it and a brand new Sirocco as the last was destroyed. You forget how much can happen in a few months!

How much does You're Rifle Weight
Deker replied to whippeter69's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The Finnfire Varmint always was a lump, certainly not the thing if you are averse to weight, but still an excellent rifle, the Finnfire Hunter was lighter! -
Was that a question or a statement? He needs what his region tells him he needs! It was a question, hence the question mark. I've only ever heard of mentors for centerfire. Mentors are not a legal requirement for centrefires, but some regions like them at times, they are not a legal requirement for rimfires either, but regions are demanding them more and more these days. If a region decides to add that as a condition most individuals will endeavor to comply for fear of not getting a grant. I have had two guys come to me in my area for help with .22lr mentoring recen

I have the SuperslingII on most of mine now. Been through a few over the years and as they break they are being replaced by these. They work for me, even on the Centrefires, as none of mine are Heavy rifles, all the rimfires have them now as you can see.

You are fortunate to find one of these Varmints, they do not come on the market very often, one of the all time great .22lr in my view, if a little heavy. ATB!!

I got this brand new last December, very happy with it, barrel cut down to 19" and a SAK is perfectly adequate. Irritation started quickly as the stock is slightly shorter than my Silhouettes due to the original very slim plastic recoil pad, and the wood was VERY soft, marking at the slightest suggestion of a knock. Had a long chat with Sage from UK Gun Repairs and sent the stock away for a little work, a complete strip and a few goes at bringing the grain up and hardening the wood, then a completely natural finish, of beeswax etc (Sage may put me right on the exact formula), and a new

Deker, you _claim_ to be a professional pest controller, I am amazed that this all comes as a shock to you. FEPA is why we are in business, on reflection I'm not shocked. I hold a food hygiene certificate, it means nothing. The reason food produces / retailers need food hygiene certification is to comply with FEPA. Complying with FEPA is my job, if you want an in-depth discussion about the implications of FEPA, I am more than happy. I have sat through hours up on hours of training days to learn how to comply with FEPA and the implications of FEPA on the food industry and contractor to the f

Deker, Food and Environment Protection Act 1985. This is the ACT that the Environmental health will use to prosecute anyone supplying food unfit for human consumption. Forget all the flow charts and self help crap, FEPA is what you need to comply with. Everything ends up back to FEPA. To be honest Deker, I don't really give a toss but what I will say is that the supply of food for human consumption is regulated with more than "guides" and flow charts. There is an old saying "it's not illegal unless you get caught" and in the case of food, most of the time people sail close to the wind. I se

That doesn't sound very encouraging, and is an enormous hike if it is true!

This is always difficult to answer as I have several rifles to select from, this has also been done many times and there is a lot in the archives to look up, I seem to remember the poll was pretty close between .223, 22.250 and .243. Anyway. The reason for the result was quite simply because everyone comes at this with their own agenda, I have a .223 and a .243 and with the ammo choices available I have no requirement for a 22-250. As someone else said, not that many foxes are taken past 200yards, and you should be able to do that with a .223 without too much trouble, to be honest

Your FEO can tell you whatever he wants, and unfortunately he is perfectly within his rights to come and see you at any reasonable time to discuss anything Firearms related he likes with you. Such is life. Please let us know what the meeting was about when all is done.

Yep No, simply because as "individual" hunters we can never comply with the requirements of storage and transportation of meat. The Environmental heath would have a field day. The hunter exemption does NOT exempt you from: being considered as a food business operator; registration of food businesses, traceability, FBOs responsibilities, HACCP, maintaining the cold chain and the probable need to provide a chiller (see game larders, including temperature controls); requirements for hygienic transport including maintaining the cold chain (both for the in-fur/infeather gam

Do you sell venison to food serving businesses? If you do, put your money where you mouth is and state names and address. Quantities and prices sold and dates. I am sure the businesses would be happy with the free publicity; If not, stop talking codswallop. Supplying *any* venison (deer / hare /boar) to a GAME dealer is a totally different circumstance to supply food outlets such as pubs, clubs, restaurants or even burger vans! There is also a vast difference between putting venison etc into the food chain and supplying to a registered game dealer who then puts the venison in to the food chain

A lot more complex. I'm certainly not going to educate pork, that's for sure. I'll get straight to the point. I have a LOT of dealings with Environmental health in the course of my business and they will make mince meat of most amateur stalkers. If they were to be called to a food incident and the supply of meat was traced back to you, then by god you had better have a bloody good set up, bloody good insurance and every certificate you can obtain, because if you haven't they will make every effort to make sure you and every other stalker never attempts to back door venison again. You will als

Very sweeping, many are fooled into believing you must have all sorts of certificates to put venison etc into the food chain...not so...unless it is your primary business..... http://www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/wildgameguide1007.pdf

Roe and Muntjac eat the best in my view, MUCH of what you get in the Supermarkets and at many restaurants is Farmed Red! And yes, you can taste the differance in a Free Range Organic Shot Deer!

CZ is probably the best value for money workhorse you will ever need!

Guys..we should not be having this debate, it is one of the reasons the Firearms laws need a big overhaul and the regions need to start singing from the same Hymn sheet!

This one comes round and round and is an anomaly. Fact is you have to justify each calibre and its uses, how can a .22lr sub at around 100ft lb be equated to a .22WMR at around 325ft lb. This is simply another difference in regional interpretation and just one of the reasons why all the firearms legislation needs a major overhaul!
