  1. There is NO legal requirement for a DSC and there in no specific requirement for a Deer Mentor either, however, the odds are you will need one or the other before your region allows Deer on your FAC, maybe even both!
  2. Hello dazzz how much for the 5 shot where are you located mate and are they 22 or 17 cheers B.. Ditto!
  3. It's a subjective view, the obvious response is why are they crap rifles? The WMR hits harder than a HMR and makes a bigger hole doing more damage, there are several ballistic tip rounds available and they fly very fast and flat and accurately. They are very close in accuracy to a HMR, (Take a look at CCI, http://www.cci-ammunition.com/) and compare HMR and WMR equivalents, and the WMR ammo tends to be slightly cheaper than HMR. I find them more useful on several quarry than a HMR. But then I have a .22lr, .17HMR and a .22WMR to select from!
  4. yep the plot thickens so to speak!! We go round and round and round on this one, if your region condition your FAC for .22 Rimfire you can buy .22lr or .22WMR! If they mean, and only want you to have .22lr, then they should condition your FAC for .22lr and NOT .22Rimfire!
  5. How long is that piece of string?? I'm not trying to be funny but there is no normal time, it can be days to months!!
  6. Most everything here is a sensible approach. If nothing seems to work the option is a gunsmith or a vice. You may well end up destroying the T8 but barrel/thread/crown will be recoverable. Good luck!
  7. I don't have any issue with that, PM me if you are interested. Cheers
  8. They are .223 size and load not military spec 5.56! They shoot well enough in my T3 .223 but as we all know different barrels like different ammo, bottom line is they will not win anyone an Olympic Gold Medal, but they work perfectly adequately for me in the field and have dealt will plenty of bunny/fox/deer! Oh yes...and they cost 20p each...you can't reload anything for that.
  9. The twist rate will not be effected, zero will almost guarantee change, you may drop a fraction of speed/energy, take a look..... http://www.accuratereloading.com/223sb.html Cost for a cut/thread/crown/proof is likely to be heading toward £100 at best, in some cases a lot more, without proof a bit less!
  10. I guess it's me being dumb again but I'm a bit confused, are you talking shotgun or rifle cartridges, there is a significant difference in the law? Did your FEO not inspect your cabinet/storage arrangements at the time of Grant? Cheers Hi Deker, I'm still waiting for the grant of my FAC, but already have a cabinet for the shotgun and air rifle. I understand the rifle and it's ammunition must be kep secure, however home office guidelins state I need a seperate container for the ammo. I have a heavy duty safe which should do fine, I just don't want start drilling it to things.
  11. Flippen 'ek!!! 2lb out of the box!! For a Field centrefire I wouldn't put that at heavy at all. You will have a job getting the majority of field centrefires down that low, the Older Remington 700 used to come in as heavy as 8.5lb pull and the X mark pro are nowhere near 2lb. Most CZ rimfires come in around the 4lb mark, and you can't get them down to 2lb without the kit! I personally believe anything much under 2 for centrefires is not safe in the field. Target work is a whole different world of course! Just my view!

  13. That seems the most obvious route, can't help thinking it will be the cheapest route too! I had my full length .308 700SPS cut from new ...flippin ek, I can't remember if it was 3 or 4 inches I took off it...3" I think, much more manageable and it does what I want!
  14. All sorts of reasons why it is acceptable to have a couple of the same calibre, perhaps some regions take a tougher view. .17HMR Silhouette 4-16 Hawke VarmintII Sirocco .22LR Silhouette 3-12 Hawke VarmintII SAK .22LR Style 4-16 JSR Target Pro SAK .22WMR American 4-16 JSR Target Pro Sako Nothing stays the same, the Style is now on my lads FAC, the WMR is gone and replaced by a new one (same scope) but a SAK on the end of it, and the HMR now has a Sidewinder on it and a brand new Sirocco as the last was destroyed. You forget how much can happen in a few months!
  15. I have a bit of ammo surplus to current requirements and I'm easy to let it go at a reduced price. I have good stock and may be able to let you have a bit more of each if you are interested, but packages specifically available................. .223Rem 55g HP Wolf, quantity 500 still factory sealed as you can see. £100 TOTAL .22WMR 40g HP CCI Maxi-Mag, quantity 500. Sealed boxes. £100 TOTAL If one purchaser is in a position to take the full 1000 rounds then I will settle for £190 Total. Usual paperwork and usual legal details. PM if you are interested.
  16. The Finnfire Varmint always was a lump, certainly not the thing if you are averse to weight, but still an excellent rifle, the Finnfire Hunter was lighter!
  17. Was that a question or a statement? He needs what his region tells him he needs! It was a question, hence the question mark. I've only ever heard of mentors for centerfire. Mentors are not a legal requirement for centrefires, but some regions like them at times, they are not a legal requirement for rimfires either, but regions are demanding them more and more these days. If a region decides to add that as a condition most individuals will endeavor to comply for fear of not getting a grant. I have had two guys come to me in my area for help with .22lr mentoring recen

  20. I have the SuperslingII on most of mine now. Been through a few over the years and as they break they are being replaced by these. They work for me, even on the Centrefires, as none of mine are Heavy rifles, all the rimfires have them now as you can see.
  21. You are fortunate to find one of these Varmints, they do not come on the market very often, one of the all time great .22lr in my view, if a little heavy. ATB!!
  22. I got this brand new last December, very happy with it, barrel cut down to 19" and a SAK is perfectly adequate. Irritation started quickly as the stock is slightly shorter than my Silhouettes due to the original very slim plastic recoil pad, and the wood was VERY soft, marking at the slightest suggestion of a knock. Had a long chat with Sage from UK Gun Repairs and sent the stock away for a little work, a complete strip and a few goes at bringing the grain up and hardening the wood, then a completely natural finish, of beeswax etc (Sage may put me right on the exact formula), and a new
  23. Deker, you _claim_ to be a professional pest controller, I am amazed that this all comes as a shock to you. FEPA is why we are in business, on reflection I'm not shocked. I hold a food hygiene certificate, it means nothing. The reason food produces / retailers need food hygiene certification is to comply with FEPA. Complying with FEPA is my job, if you want an in-depth discussion about the implications of FEPA, I am more than happy. I have sat through hours up on hours of training days to learn how to comply with FEPA and the implications of FEPA on the food industry and contractor to the f
  24. Deker, Food and Environment Protection Act 1985. This is the ACT that the Environmental health will use to prosecute anyone supplying food unfit for human consumption. Forget all the flow charts and self help crap, FEPA is what you need to comply with. Everything ends up back to FEPA. To be honest Deker, I don't really give a toss but what I will say is that the supply of food for human consumption is regulated with more than "guides" and flow charts. There is an old saying "it's not illegal unless you get caught" and in the case of food, most of the time people sail close to the wind. I se
