Think we’ve got some patterdale x collies on the way ?
-
Rye and barley coming down fast here. Had one 15 min trip so far ?

Good explanation thanks. I wonder how many folk ever have their running dog at the peak of physical fitness, as fit as they possibly could be? Very few I imagine. Oh apart from the lads “grafting their dogs seven days / nights a week” ? ?

Nope! I made a comment re the video of American cattle dogs ...... it got misunderstood. I explained again. We had a verbal cuddle. The end

Sometimes you got to explain yourself havnt you ?

No hard feelings at all. Dont think my initial post was at all arrogant. Next two were, but that’s what you get. But at least you didn’t miss it, you just didn’t try. Much better than trying and failing isn’t it ?

Just for the record that’s also like saying that as a welsh man I know lots about corgis ........ Or all Americans have a deep knowledge of American bull dogs ....... But for the record ...... I didn’t say I knew more about ACD s than the Aussie ..... I said he, like you ...... had missed my point.

Looks like you missed my point to. I wasn’t arguing with the man about Australian cattle dogs at all. What I said was - most Americans use border collies to work cattle, rather than the above mentioned ‘American cattle dogs’. I then proceeded to say that in both the USA and America, they have a common theme of taking unusual breeds and mixing them together to produce fit for purpose working dogs - ie the Aussie cattle dog, the pig dogs, the American cattle dog etc. It’s not in many other countries you will see working dogs with Great Dane in for example....... often th

You missed my point. But thanks for that.

Most of them use border collies. But everyone likes to ‘invent’ a breed. Just like oz, the USA has a thing for just taking mongrel breeds and working them at a job. They then get rebranded. Pretty cool really, but they all get a Facebook page and web site. It’s just mirroring what we did a long time ago before we formalised breeds and what we used them for.

Then dogs have some bull somewhere ?

Cattle dog with bull in it

Can you explain this please ? I don’t understand.

All I know is it’s an Irish wolf hound - just clocked a couple with it at the service station.

Skip the first stage and just go to a good working dog vet / physio. -
She’s not worried by anything in life. A simple, happy dog that loves her job. I’d have her again happily. Also the easiest dog I’ve ever trained.

It’s a bitch. 9/16 grey 7/16 bull. Or in English a 3/4 grey 1/4 bull dog over a 5/8 bull 3/8 grey bitch. And thank you.

What fries my head is how this fries folks head. It’s basic maths that gets taught to small kids.

I guess all the pups I’ve had have been of mates and good dog folk and can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever thought or worried about that, maybe im lucky. Every pup I’ve been given has been fat as butter and a picture of health.
-
Interesting, I’ve always preferred them a bit older, seven weeks minimum and happy at 8. Always felt the pups get more time to socialise and Learn pack manners etc. Not a knock at all, just interested in how different folk do stuff or think about stuff that’s all.
-
Out of curiosity, do many let pups go younger than 6 weeks? Always prefer mine a bit older but maybe makes little difference
