I get that. But if anyone gives the lad grief about going out, they need to give their head a shake!

Why? It’s a week off September. They are rabbits, who cares? Don’t see any baby rabbits there either. Least he’s out working his dogs and catching, which is far more than the majority of folk here do.

Double post -
I was thinking similar but had a wee wander and to be fair we had a day of torrential rain and a few days before similar so the top level of the recently worked down fields were pretty soft under foot. But the warmth was the issue really.

Good weather last night, I had a look out myself. Still warm as he’ll though like you said!

I think you’ve a bit of a chip on your shoulder about these ‘line bred’ animals. Don’t suppose you were sold a duffer by any chance ? Never net anyone who thought a crap dog was good cis it’s grandma was, but also seen some very good dogs that were bred out of very good dogs, and you tend to find it all it it’s ancestors were very good, there’s a fair chance it had potential to be it brought on right. -

What amazes me is how many folk don’t know what a line bred dog is, and the difference between that and a generation bred dog. Also also how much folk over complicate the whole job ? and mostly just to chase a few rabbits about every now and them, the odd fox, odd hare maybe and if they lucky a couple deer a season. Not knocking anyone at all, just the way it seems to be. All this stuff about “I’d rather have a scatter bred dog, all the line bred dogs I’ve seen are crap etc” I’m not saying either is right. But if you’ve mostly seen crap dogs, or average at best, how can you say? Obviously -

Why would you want to put a greyhound into a line of Lurchers these days? Yes they are fast. But unless you’re breeding first x or you’re Lurchers are scatter bred, it’s a massive backwards step. Yer Lurcher breeding isn’t rocket science - just breed typey / line bred, best to best and don’t lie to yourself and others about how good or bad the dog/s are. On a side note - most Lurchers, probably most working dogs, just don’t see the graft, and a lot of folk think an average dog is a good one, and that’s a fact! -
Had a little ‘moment’ last night ?

I keep my pups in crate in kitchen for first few weeks, they howl a bit at night to start but if you get them out plenty and spend time with them it stops quick.
-
All pups are noisy ? some folk are just plain odd.

That’s uk wide I believe mate. Obviously there are plenty big flocks about. But even some of those big hill units are dropping stocking rates fast and chasing subsidy money or windmill money. Most of the real big sheep operations are probably lowland to be fair numbers wise. Due to opportunity of scale on arable farms. And you’re right you need a lot to make money. But most farmers I see are clueless anyway and have little hope of making much as they are stuck in the dark ages!

Sorry for late reply to this. I guess what I meant, is I see it similar to Lurchers and terrier and any working dog. You might have a dog that goes out once or twice a season and manages to get hold of a fox and you end up with a dead fox. But that doesn’t make a fox dog, and isn’t the same as a dog that’s out week in week out knocking them over. Similar with stock dogs, I see a lot of folk selling dogs and training dogs and breeding lines of dogs, and those dogs are lucky to see a couple of dozen sheep at a time, in small, fenced, fields. Same with farmers in general, the average fl

Almost impossible to get a decent photo of my two idiots! Coming together as a team nicely now though.

How did he manage it? Hard ground? Dog looks well

What a Bonny pup that is. I think you made the right choice going for a collie rather than a kelpie!

You look like the kind of guy I’d love a day out with. Hounds are a credit to you.

Beddy x types have long been popular with the hunter wellie wearing country show goers. Seem to see a lot of fawn rough coated types owner by middle class women. -
Ideal size that mate for most things

Fair play I like the look of it. Going to be a sturdy little bitch
