Well done looks sharp.

Lovely looking pup Poxon. Just the sort I like, right mix of breeds in there to be a first class dog. Good luck!

We were ferreting once well away from the footpath on a wheat field that had been decimated by rabbit damage and had caught in excess of 50 at this point (oh for numbers like that now!) and a woman off the footpath with an out of control dog starts kicking off calling us "cruel b*****ds" etc and we politely told her to get back to the footpath. Next week local rag had a story about us! Women quoted as saying she was "powerlesss to act as the bodies mounted up"! Joke. Old man and farmer wrote in and got published explained what we were doing and to stay on the footpath! Good stories these lads.

Nice pups mate. Good luck with them

Be Very Careful Of Bad Sellers - John Stringer!

Only do stuff like that via PayPal as they will refund if goods arrive damaged or not as listed. -
It's a long shot but try a rescue centre if there is one near you, chances are any adult ferrets they have are workers that got lost and handed in. I rescued one and she was an absolute demon! Good luck

I like a small hob, the big ones are just to powerful and rabbits can't get away. I have bred a smaller line for years and the hobs are normally the size of very big strone Jill's but seem to work all day tirelessly whereas I find the Jill's can tire. I have a big hob and have seen him literally dragging healthy, strong, adult rabbits out of the holes! Good when he drags them out but he does kill a lot under ground. Atb with your hobs Neil.

Hard to tell till the cover and crops are down, lots of rabbits will actually live in maize and heavy cover and can be hard to say until later. Mixi has arrived in the last few weeks though but it does most years and some will survive. The new disease is a bad but it has actually been around since the early 90's. Fingers crossed for a good year all round but sounds like it's slim pickings for quite a few.

Top footage mate, nice open holes you were working there. Can't wait to get out myself once 'summers' over!

I have had ferrets do something very similar, seems a lot worse in the warm weather. If you don't already suggest you use a collar when working her as if goes to sleep underground you could be waiting a while!!!

Young bitch in particular looking in great shape. Fair play.

Older Ferret Kits Trying To Kill Young Ones
Bobtheferret replied to Hawk17's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Sounds like hob is being randy to me, you sure he is only six months old? Born in January/February?? If he is last years he is probably sex starved. Separate them till kit is bigger and hob out of season and they'll be fine. -
Nice write up. Sounds fun, always enjoy a rabbit caught like that.
-
I wish I had ground that open in February! You have some lovely spots up there NL, fair play to you though hope you enjoy a good season. Always enjoy looking at your pictures of paradise!

Personally think lurchers are great around the house and especially with kids. My old whippet beddlington cross was as good a house dog and family pet as you could ever wish for and caught me 100's of rabbits to. Good luck

Always nice to have a hob or two, I never go out with out at least a hob in the box. Feel if the Jill's are struggling with a tough rabbit then a hob will normally speed things up! My hobs always seem to have an incredible drive and hunger for work to, keep going all day long if I need them to. Your two look like they serve you well. Good luck!

I think having the summer break is good, gets you nice and keen for it after a summer of waiting. Gives the rabbits a chance to multiply and breed some ferrets

I know there are a few on here that don't like em but if there's something wrong with the dogs I get them down the vet. Obviously there are good and bad vets but they are much better placed to treat an injury or illness than us lot! Don't want a 10 month old pup with a potential bad injury going in treated get him the vet.

Nice looking dog Like this cross personally.

Any Ferreting Lads/lasses In West Yorkshire?
Bobtheferret replied to Steviec's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Best thing you can do is get some ferret kits now and then the puppy and the ferrets can grow up together and all will be ready next season. If you wait till next season for ferret kits they might not work properly in their first season and it will give dog and ferrets plenty of time to get used to each other. Good luck! -
That's some brilliant permission you've got up there, I have permission on a 5000 acre estate and I thought that was big but 25,000! Incredible open holes perfect for bolting for the dogs. Nice looking ferrets to with a good sized court. Good luck for the season.

Agree with everything that's been said so far. I took on a 3 year old that was scared of his own shadow and underweight and now is the most loyal affectionate dog I've ever owned and very useful working animal. Only draw back is physically due to his upbringing he can't have a heavy workload but owned him 4 years now and would be lost with out him.

Fox at 5 months old???
