  1. because they don't moan at you and take your wages like a woman, at a guess
  2. its quite a few years ago now, but that's what they used to cost me to make, trouble is my brain is still living 30years behind my body, if you add about thirty years of inflation to that, the pebble comes out an even better deal
  3. I know you were asking about making a wooden bow, but I have seen some half tidy bows and crossbows made from old ski,s they can be bought quite cheap and all you need is the wooden bit for the middle section, another little tip for any budding archers on a budget is to get yourself a catty and learn to shoot it accurately, the aiming is very much the same, but it's a lot cheaper loosing a pebble or a ball bearing than an arrow at 50p a go and when you have worked out your anchor points, aiming points and strongest and weakest eye, you should be able to pass them over to your bow shooting chee
  4. it was flying quite high when I saw it and was hard to make out to much colour but there was a lot of cream colour, on the underside of the body as my first thought was I was looking at an osprey, it was only when I saw a story in my local paper with a picture that I realised what I,d seen, the size is the main giveaway as it has a nine foot wingspan
  5. that's really nice did you paint the picture yourself ?
  6. I saw it twice fly over my house a few weeks back, seems to be moving south as I'm in avonmouth , thought it was a model when I first saw it as its massive and flys for miles without beating is wings glad to here it's still ok
  7. . The lead cubes are being made in silicone ice cube trays, they are 10mm cubes and you get 160 cubes in one sheet, the moulds are less than £2 on eBay it's a very fast and easy way of turning out ammo and know the silicone does not melt even though your brain tells you it will
  8. have used various nuts over the years and have been quite happy with them, as I,m a tatter they are usually all over the bed of my truck, so a free and easy source of ammo, I now make my own 12mm lead balls, but would,nt hesitate to use nuts again I even know a few that fill the centre hole with lead to give them more weight and therefore more whack, anything that is a uniform shape seems to fly pretty true from a catty, I know a lot of people are now using lead cubes and swear by them just like lead beans none of them look like they should fly true but they seem to work fine and some even pre
  9. When you have your kids vaccinated, it's a once in a lifetime deal, that's because it's free and there is know financial gain to the doctor, if on the other hand the doctor was paid extra for each jab I,m sure the kids would be in for a booster every year, once you have an immunity to something your immune, it's all about the money
  10. apparently it's most frequently seen near the second Severn crossing, you won't miss it, it's massive keep an eye out, it flys way up high but still looks huge, the body is pale and the wings are dark,
  11. Feel a little sorry for the dotterels, as a fine and dandy visitor he's looking a little like an ugly sister next to that blue throat, well done you, I've just added to a thread in the falconry section some of you rare bird buffs might be interested in its a uk first
  12. I know it's not about falconry but it's raptor related, firstly since seeing the goshawk there was a news story on our local news a few weeks back, the body of a goshawk was found and after an autopsy it was found to have been shot, I can't confirm if it was the same one but it was witching ten miles of my sighting, really gutting even if it was,nt the same one, but onto a more rare and bizarre story, three nights ago I was sat in my back garden having a smoke and as usual I was watching the sky above, when i spy an absolutely huge bird of prey along way up, it flew for miles without beating i
  13. Running water, closed season, still water owners discretion, simples
  14. Repeat captures of so called mug fish can even happen in lightly stocked lakes, rivers and canals, I caught the same carp from the same swim with a year or so between them on the K&A canal which is 90 miles long, have also had canal carp miles apart with many locks between captures, some fish just love bait while others live on a more natural diet and seldom if ever get caught by anglers, the fastest recapture I ever saw, was many years ago when I was at cuttle mill, had a 28lb mirror, photos done fish returned, quick rinse of my hands and as I stood up my mates rod tip hooped round and af
  15. what are you after mate do you just want the bands and ties or are you after the bands attached to a pouch? Let me know and I will get you sorted
  16. just took a hundred to the PO and they will do second class for £3 but wanted nearly £6 for first class, I've just put some on eBay if anyone wants some straight away, as my kids have set me up a PayPal account but I don't know how to use it without going through eBay, will get the kids to show me over the weekend how to take payment, and should be able to sell direct, I,m away for the bank hols but should be up and running by Tuesday/Wednesday cheers
  17. . Your post would mean a lot more with a picture of what you got today,?
  18. Thanks for the reply,s lads I,m going away for the weekend, but when I get back will get it sorted, will have to find the postage costs out for them, but my local PO got blown up yesterday trying to rob the cash point, also I,d like to get a few thousand ready so people don't have to wait to long, but it looks like a goer, so should be available by mid week next week
  19. I would say yes as they line up pretty well just sitting on your arm the power is way beyond a normal catty even with lighter bands on, also a lot easier to make than the ply version I have the ingredients for another crutch one if the wooden one is not as good
  20. I think the postage would work out at about an extra £3 just wondering if that seemed about right
  21. My son bought me a pack of lead ammo from the local gun shop recently and I was a little shocked that they charged him £20 for 100x10mm lead balls, so with that in mind I bought my self a 12 mm mould and today I thought I would give it a whirl and I knocked out around 100 per hour, so if you were making a living from it £20 per hundred does not seem that excessive, but as I'm just doing it as a hobby in my spare time, and I have the lead for free I was thinking of putting the 12mm lead balls up for £10 per hundred, was just wondering what people think, trying to get some feelers, if it's a go
  22. . Not yet banded up but here is the wooden starship, also made a little ply side shooter for a mate of mine out of the off cuts, I think there will probably be a few more changes before I get completely happy with it but not bad for a first venture into the world of ply catty,s
  23. alright mate I will put it up in a bit for you, have it in my sat nav but son is out in the van at the mo, also spell check changed lea,s to lees, so if you type stubby leas into your search it will take you straight to his face book page, if your into cats he also runs a catfish lake just across from stubbys, his name is Jamie, and he will be able to sort you here it is ws13 8pt
  24. Just a little heads up to the carp boys, a friend of mine has just invested a small fortune in some of the best and fastest growing carp in the country, he is not a farmer with a muddy puddle, but a carp angler trying to create a fantastic venue for others, so if your in the staffs area and fancy some great fishing give him a shout, just type the name above into Google and it will take you to his Facebook page, he has photos of every fish he's stocked plus there are a few unknowns in there, it's not been fished before and even the new stuff has been left unmolested since last year while being
