The actor took his name from the old Northumberland ballad “ The Chevy Chase” 

The Chevy chase was a hunting area around the Cheviot hills in the Northumberland and Scottish Borders.

The area was disputed and when the Earl Percy of Northumberland had a hunt on the land, the Scottish Earl Douglas took offence and it led to the battle of Otterburn, ( an area I have regularly hunted), and more than 100 men were killed.

This led to “The Ballad of Chevy Chase.” An old Northumberland folk song .

How an American actor came to use this as his name is beyond me, I thought it was just old farts like me who would know about it
