I remember seeing a pic years ago of Gilnahirk terrier club and they were a group of friends that went round farms dealing with rat infestations and other vermin, the pic was from early 1900s

Good pics P3D but still we’re no clearer of when black dogs (as we know them) began to breed true to type are we?

ps. Smithy was born ‘73 and died ‘86.

RH, No, we are no clearer. There are men who have a good understanding of what happened. One guy is writing a book, it should shed light on that time, 1950 to 1990. Hopefully it will get published soon.

Not buying it that's an early Staff P3d.... The stafford is well photographed from that time and none look like that.

I'd go for a smooth Irish terrier or crossbred of Irish dogs

Could be, if you look at the dog "Tinkers Double" it has a square head like that.

I have a soft spot for scotties. Enjoy seeing historical pics of them. Doubt they were much of a working dog though

Wandering what you guys think is the best way to enter a terrier. My bitch is 1 and a half had her going ratting most weeks since last November and wanna  give her a go on something else. Lots off people have be saying build a tunnel and lots have been saying go find a fox earth and see what’s she does. Wandering what’s the best way to prep her and that.  Cheers

Photo from the first International WT Match, held at the Welsh GF.
I don't recall the year but know it must have been near 30 years ago.
