Actually in the novels his fathers name is Andrew bond and is Scottish and his mother is Swiss so yes it does mater

The character of bond is a stereotypical British gent from higher parts of society, refined, articulate, charming, educated, familiar with the luxuries of life and served as an officer in the forces.

I'd like to see a remake of 'Roots' with Kunta Kintay played by Ralph Fiennes.

Idris Elba ruled himself out of the role stating that bond was the quintessential english chap with an obvious silver spoon upbringing hardly suited to a black fella from Hackney ..........

A British ethnic minority playing the role would seem as out of place as the entire cast of Downton Abbey being African.

In a different 'secret agent' type film series it would be completely appropriate to have an African/Indian/Arab etc playing the 007 character, but not in the Bond franchise, the character type has already been ingrained in the audiences/fans minds.

Making a none white fella fit the character would just seem untrue to what Bond is about imo.

i think they keep banging on about a black bond to show that this country is pc and progressive . I mean America can have a black president in the whitehouse the very least we can do is have a black bond lol. Personally it's not a problem for me I think Denzel could probably pull it of but that would probably be to much a black American getting the part it would have to be a black Brittish actor someone with a bit of coolness so if Idris Elba knocked it back that leaves only Lenny Henry ?

Around the time Pierce Brosnan got the job, Colin Salmon was said to have been in with a shout, and I think he would have done a good Bond - maybe they've already missed their opportunity for a while ? They'd need a black actor that's experienced, but isn't already associated with another role.......

The growing campaign for a female Bond is being led by Ed Millipede - the fact that he wants a character called James to be a woman doesn't fill you with hope, does it ?

Black,British, female muslim Bond ? That should narrow the selection process a bit.......

Well, an Australian managed to pull off playing a Scottish warrior who was born in Wales so anythings possible

I seriously guess your and my views of "pulling it off" differ greatly  Bruce Lee could do a better sweaty accent and he's been dead over 40 years

I didn't say realistic, lol. I said true to what Bond is, what the character is. Starting a fresh secret agent type franchise, an African/Indian/Arab would be perfectly acceptable, as many real life security agents are of that ethnic background. But Bond is already established, the image is already established.

Realistic.... LOL. I'm not the sort that watches Bond running around roof tops, f***ing the daughters/wives of international villains, driving DB9s and thinks it's a realistic fiction of MI6!

It's pure fantasy set in the real world to give it that feel of truth. Isn't that why we watch films though?
