  1. We tried to contact our late Aunty Doris to find out where she had hidden her life insurance certificate. It just gave us a load of bollox. then somebody remembered that Aunty Doris was dyslexic.
  2. I'm quite pleased with how it is going now. Boris is sticking to a plan and cracks are appearing in the other side. It reminds me of the 'Yes Prime Minister' sketch where Sir Humphrey explains how the British Diplomats set the German off against the French, the Spanish against the Italians......... That is just how it will pan out except it will be car makers against fishermen, fruit and veg' growers against fridge makers............ The language is helping too. For too long the EU have been allowed to peddle the notion that the UK wants its penny and the bun when it is actually the othe
  3. And that is why they will lose their licence fees. And about time too.
  4. Dirty devil. Mind your own business. What he's wearing in the privacy of his own house is up to him.
  5. Micron's popularity has gone down the pan and only a third of French people trust him. In just over two years time there will be a general election and I cannot see him getting into the run off between the last two candidates. The French people only voted him in to stop le Pen from taking power. Next time around I can see le Pen taking a lot more seats and if not actually getting a majority, holding the balance of power. She will go for a Frexit referendum and I think it will be a very close call. Many of the poorer French and the farmers are anti-EU and now the the UK has shown that leav
  6. This is why it is so important for the EU, that is Brussels, to make an example of the UK and not let them appear to prosper after leaving. This is why they are trying to tie the UK into accepting their regulations on things like product conformity. If the UK diverges from this they can make things for the domestic market cheaper than EU manufacturers can export to the UK. Foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals need not be to EU standards if the UK thinks that the EU is simply complicating things to protect its own producers. And of course, no nation in its right mind would agree to follow a set of ru
  7. Yep. I'm a Kloppite. We went to Spain over Christmas and there were some people from Dortmund in the bar at the camp site. They said that they cried along with thousands of others when he announced that he was leaving. I will bet that there will be tears on Mersyside when he eventually leaves, probably to manage the national team. Let's face it; if he was available your club would snap him up in a heart beat. I like Ole and all that he stands for, but I think that, like Lampard, he is a popular make weight to give the board a bit of breathing space after the recent turmoil. It must be dif
  8. Remember the wolf that was photographed in the west of France a couple of months back? Well, now it or another has been spotted and verified about 200km away in the Vienne Department.
  9. They might not be able to contractually. A touch of the green-eyed monster methinks ?
  10. I have never supported Liverpool. I admire them, but I don't support them. And while Klopp seems to get away with things that Miserable Mou' can't, my reasons for supporting his stance has been explained before. Somebody has to take a stand against the relentless fixture programs the top clubs face and it just happens to be him. If nothing is done then football at the top level will suffer.
  11. They could start by making every match kick off at 3pm on a Saturday instead of spreading one round through half a week.
  12. I can't tell you anything specifically about that reel but the Shimano story goes like this: In the early 1970’s Alabama tackle dealer Lew Childre set off to Japan on a personal trade mission. His primary aim was to source some quality bamboo as Chinese goods were subject to an embargo and Tonkin cane was hard to find, but he also made contact with representatives of the Japanese companies Fuji Heavy Industries, an aircraft company set up in 1915 and The Shimano Industrial Company who were founded in 1921 to make cycle parts. Childre managed to do a deal with Shimano to produce a new bait
  13. I understand what you are saying, but where does it end? We traditionally have the League Cup (in various incarnations), the FA Cup and the leagues. Add to that the European fixtures for those that qualify and the add-ons, Super Cup, World Club Championship and factor in any replays and extra-times. Then there are international commitments. More and more friendlies, each continent has its own competition like the Euros and then the World Cup. The FA, FIFA , television companies, sponsors and everybody else are flogging the game to death for their own ends, i.e. profit. And the FFP rules limit
  14. So that's a few thousand Scots in the British Army. Not the few that you encountered.
  15. There might have been a few more in the Black Watch or the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders ?
  16. It used to be a good program. I fondly remember Michela Strachan showing us her beaver photos and Kate Humble used to have a pair of great tits to display. Now its all about Cwis and he's a cnut.
  17. Except its a load of bollox. The reason so many Scots enlisted for the British Army is because there was little future for them back home. It is the same the world - over joining the army is an escape.
  18. They have prioritised the PL and I can't blame them. Especially how this year has panned out. Grab it while you can as you never know what tomorrow might bring. Klopp is putting his player's welfare high on his priorities too,. From my personal point of view the FA cup has been on a downward slide for quite a few years now. It doesn't have the same magic for me as in the past. And I can see the day that the League Cup is dropped by the bigger PL clubs or used entirely as a youth experience program.
  19. Klopp is one of a very few in top level football who is fighting for player's welfare. Most of the others are hell bent on extracting every last cent out of the game. And to be honest, I don't think the true Koppites will give a flying-feck about the cup as long as they win the PL this year.
  20. They are not done yet. Even though the UK is leaving they are still trying to make sure that it follows EU rules and so remains subservient for ever. It is interesting ho hard they are trying to keep the UK in. Just shows how much they stand to lose by not compromising when Camemoron asked for concessions. They have learned a big lesson. Also Varadkar and Macron are saying that a deal cannot be reached by the end of the year. Trying to string it out even longer. Before the general election they wanted it dealt with ASAP. Looking at it logically the UK and EU have long standing arrangemen
  21. Less than a week to go so lets have a round up of the current situation. Indyref2; Ain't going to happen. Boris needs to keep Scotland on board as they have lots of fisheries and that is a key bargaining point at the moment. Blackford hints at getting EU support to force this through. No chance! The EU will never officially support Scottish independence as that would be hypocritical towards the Basques Separatists and the failed independence referendum in Catalonia where some Catalonian politicians have been jailed and one is hiding out in would you believe, Scotland despite official requ
  22. A couple of years back an old friend asked me to research his family tree. I came across a relative of his from Australia, a sheep farmer; Major Edgar Towner MC VC. Took out a German machine gun post during 30 hours of fighting and 20 years later went back for some more. http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/towner-edgar-thomas-8834 Words cannot properly describe the heroics of people like him. Between the wars he was reported to be a humble, quietly spoken giant of a man.
  23. Maybe its something to do with homeless people don't vote?
  24. The only species recorded on the trail-cam are mice, rats and a cat. The rat has moved indoors but whilst it has been running around the living room every night it hasn't gone into any of the traps. They can't have been putting foodstuffs away properly at night. To be honest I've given up on them. The latest text I got was asking how he could change the batteries in the trail-cam. The battery compartment is staring him in the face when he opens the cover to switch it on and off! But, of course he hasn't been switching it on and off hence him needing new batteries. The thing has been runni
