M. Barmier: "So, Prime minister, let me make this clear. Spain wants Gibralter back, Greece wants the Elgin Marbles back, Ireland wants Ulster back, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany all want to continue to fish British waters and we all want you to abide by any rules we make up as we go along without having any say in how these rules are made and be bound by all decisions made by a European court that we set up. Unless you agree to all these demands we will stop selling you French, German, Spanish and Italian cars, Dutch, German and Italian domestic products, French wine and meat, S

It could be a challenge if the hornet's behave like they do in France. Often the nests are 30 - 40 foot up in the branches quite a way from the trunk or any substantial bough that you could lean a ladder against. And the hornets sometimes attack anyone passing nearby.

Little Wife likes the odd G&T and tonight I cracked open a large bottle of Beefeaters we brought back from Spain last month and made her a good one. ?

Sheffield United in Europe? It could happen!!!

There was an article about this in a German magazine last year. The club owner has been refunding companies who have sponsored City so in effect he has been paying more into the club than is allowed. It has been a cover up that has gone on for years.

Now they have democratic backing and if that is not respected by the other parties...................

The SF leader made comments about avoiding the messy situation that the Tories were in mid-Brexit. And she thinks that the EU should support a united Ireland. Ithink she's been to the same political school as Wee Jimmy. The Irish situation now looks like a whole mess and I can't see how it won't end up in bloodshed and long term paralysis of the Government. But at least Varadkar has had his comeuppance.
-
I thought that you was talking about political interference. Regards trade; "the EU" is just a collection of businesses, small and large and the EU hierarchy can't be seen to support one country's trade just because of a political situation.
-
Don't count on the EU getting involved. Anything to do with separatism or re-unification is treated with suspicion as the EU wants stability not conflict. That is why Wee Jimmy won't get EU support for a(nother once in a lifetime) independence referendum. Spain has its hands full trying to keep the Basques and Catalonians from splitting and if either of them break free they might take a chunk of France with them. They are only pandering to Wee Jimmy out of spite because Boris has cancelled the gravy train. IMO the EU will not support re-unification either because of the problems of uproot

Thing is Gnasher, and you weren't to know but do now, Tintwhistle is deep in a Pennine valley and as such doesn't see any sunshine from October through to March. ? Those two place I mentioned aren't that expensive but you don't get the pi$$heads staggering down the corridor at daft o'clock hammering on your door because they think its their room like you do at some budget hotels.

Cudworth, Barnsley town then ended up at Monk Bretton and Shafton before spending 3 months in High Green between selling our house and moving to France. I used to go to Chesterfield flea market on Thursdays and fished the DRAC water at Darley Dale. Small world.

Woodward Pass? You mean the Woodhead Pass you wooden head ? Gnasher, no wonder it was a bit basic. You inadvertently left God's broad acres and strayed into Derbyshire where everyone calls everyone else 'Duck'. If you want to experience a real welcome have a look at The Strines Inn https://www.thestrinesinn.co.uk/ Or The Wortley Hall Hotel (that is where I stay when I go back for a visit) https://www.wortleyhall.org.uk/ Tankersley Manor is one of those new places pretending to have some history. It is clean and has a good restaurant, but no class like what you

I think somewhere around 1978 - 80, This is a Bantam 100 and was the first type to be sold as a Shimano. They started to introduce other Bantam models once the 100 became established and the style of handle changed around 1981. There are hundreds of older bait casters on the American ebay site and more and more sellers are using the Global Shipping Program which makes postage costs a lot cheaper than they used to be. I got this one just before Christmas when there were loads of reels being discounted. It came loaded with Rapala Titanium Braid line which would have cost twice as much as I paid -

The stat's for fishing show that the EU boats land 60% of their total catch from UK waters. The UK boats land 18% of their catch from EU waters. The countries that will be hardest hit will be Belgium 48%, Holland 38% , and Ireland 33%, The French who are making most fuss will only lose an estimated 15%. But the forecast is that there will be a shortfall in landings by EU boats if they are excluded or restricted from fishing in UK waters. Meanwhile 30% of UK food comes from the EU. If the EU countries want to maintain that trade they need to import the seafood to keep the lorries full goi

They do that is France Wilf. The kids see food production from farm to plate as part of the curriculum.

Yes, it is that simple. The UK catches fish but doesn't eat it. The EU eats loads of fish but doesn't have the fisheries. The UK eats a lot of fruit and veg' but can't grow it. The French and Spanish can grow it and have enough to export to the UK. A lot of the UK caught fish is delivered to the French and Spanish markets by the same lorries that bring the fruit and veg' to the UK. British boats are not working to their full potential because of EU imposed quotas that allow foreign boats to fish UK waters. Nothing will change except the UK boats will have bigger quotas at t

Exactamont Arry. It was EU quotas and management of those quotas that caused the decline of the British fleet. The Brits have spare capacity as they are only allowed to fish for a certain tonnage of each species and that means days tied up at dock sides. The UK fishermen can take up some of the slack created by the UK reducing the quotas of foreign boats. That gives them more income so when Wee Jimmy tries to take Scotland out of the UK and into the EU Scottish fishermen will not let her as they would again be governed by strict EU quotas. The market for fish and shellfish in Spain, Portu

The thing is that this is small fry (sorry ? ) in the greater scheme of things but it has come to epitomise the stalemate between the EU and the UK. I brought this up on another forum two years ago and the Remoaners were all saying that the fishing agreement would take second fiddle to bigger issues like selling cars. But, what they didn't realise is that the fishing issue is a perfect battle ground for the UK to make a stand as it has a legal right to the coastal fisheries and the EU cannot do anything about it. Boris is playing a blinder by keeping to the mantra that the UK will decide who
-
They will. And the clever thing about it is that the UK can manage the fisheries independently, give its skippers larger catch quotas than they have now and then let the EU dish out the rest to the EU skippers. There will be less to go round for them so some will be disappointed. But that will be a Brussels problem, not the UK's. and year on year the UK can increase its own quotas and fleet and cut the EU's share ?
-
Two reasons; First the kickbacks they get as discussed above. Second, all politicians need to be popular in order to get re-elected. Sometimes policies have to be implemented even though they are unpopular ad that is where the EU come in. Write to your MP about the windmills proposed in your area and the reply will come back blaming EU policy which they cannot change. Don't like the new MOTs? EU policy again. In many cases the MPs would have done the same, but now they can blame Brussels for everything.

The biggest market for sea food in the EU is Spain and they have virtually no decent fisheries. France is a big market too and most of their boats fish in UK waters. The problem for UK skippers is that they get less quota then the percentage of fishing the UK has. A lot of UK fisheries are fished by Danish, German, Dutch, Belgian, French and Spanish boats and they don't want to give their quotas up. The UK has most of the best fishing in its coastal waters. But the EU actually issue licences and decide quotas for all EU fisheries including the UK. Now, if the UK want to, they can control

A bit of common sense from the continent: With its tough and defiant approach to the United Kingdom, Europe is partly responsible for the country’s departure from the EU. But as it enters a post-Brexit era, it can’t afford to keep Britain at a distance. The EU considered the impending tragedy of Brexit to be so absurd, so idiotic and backward, that it was long unwilling to accept it as a possibility. Brussels did nothing to help the lamentable Prime Minister David Cameron win the referendum. The EU thought it had to be unyielding in negotiations with Cameron’s successor Theresa Ma
