  1. If you have time and not wanting to rush into the purchase have a look on ebay.com the American site. Put in baitcasting reel into the search field and then tick the box for used and under €25. You should be able to get something there from Shimano, ABU, Lews, Daiwa or Ryobi cheaply and if the seller uses the Global Shipping Program the delivery costs are good too. I got this Shimano Bantam just before Christmas for next to nothing...... This has the centrifugal brake with brake blocks, but you can get reels with magnetic brakes which are easier to use if you are new to this t
  2. Wouldn't work. The place would get flooded with American dentists looking for an easy trophy shot.

  4. Well some of them. Those who haven't already left. I think there was some stats to show that of all the people claiming to be Scottish only 20% actually lived there.
  5. The EU are being sidelined by the member state governments. I think that the Express have finally got their headlines right - the EU is finished. I cannot see it ever recovering from this in its current form.
  6. Will anybody see a difference?
  7. Not that busy. He's only added the last five words to their normal road sign.
  8. Mine is nothing like that. Well, not at the front anyway but I can't see the back
  9. Oooh no! I have a face for radio and a voice for literature ? But even the wife says it looks OK and might let me do hers next week as we were both due hair appointments on the day everything shut down.
  10. I couldn't wait any longer. I just had to do it. Yes folks today I cut my own hair - with the dog clippers ? ?
  11. A couple of migrants who must have got left behind. Most of the squadrons went over weeks ago. Crap phone shots through a dirty windscreen.....
  12. Yep, and the Royal Mint will be printing bank notes like there is no tomorrow which might be because for many there will be no tomorrow and for the rest there will be tax rates like nobody has ever seen. Short term panic measures to keep the public on board. The alternative is widespread civil disobedience.
  13. Just discovered a government directive that appears to suggest that outside workers can continue to work as long as they respect the guidelines about safe personal distances, etc. Most of my jobs are holiday homes so there will be nobody at home. I have printed off the directive, my professional registration and an explanation of my work and hopefully Mole-Patrol can get back on the road on Friday. ? Still no answer to the Federation of Anglers request for the government to clarify the position regards fishing. At the moment it is a no-no. ?
  14. We need to carry a form whenever we leave the house to explain where we are going and why. Only certain travel is allowed. Today I ventured out to the supermarket and only passed one other car in 12km. The supermarket car park was the quietest I have seen it and there was almost nobody else in the shop. Most of the shelves were full with just one or two exceptions; no potatoes and some brands of certain items were missing but there were others to choose from. Same in nearby Lidl. Almost no other shoppers and business as usual. Got the week's shopping without any problem. The Gendarmes had a ro
  15. You might laugh, but around 2002 -3 I was fishing off Flamborough Head in Yorkshire in my kayak when the local pleasure cruiser came close and one of the crew hollored over that they had seen a pod of killer whales on the other side of the head and advised me to get back to shore. I thought that he was having me on, but next day the local paper had a story about them.
  16. I hope that you do. But out here in France they still haven't made it clear whether going fishing on your own is an acceptable reason to be outdoors. If it is I'll be pushing the boat out myself.
  17. As of noon today we are in lock down. I have to print off and fill in a form to carry while I walk the dog. And then tomorrow I'll have to do another one as they have to be dated for the day in question. I'll need a form for shopping too and only one of us is allowed to go. We are only allowed out for necessary reasons; shopping once a day, work where allowed, necessary care of people and animals. For some reason mole trapping is not classed as essential work so Mole-Patrol is grounded for at least two weeks. I'll lose a few customers too as those who rely on renting out cottages will g
  18. Micron has made an announcement to the people that is a clear as mud. so his Interior Department are scrabbling around trying to answer the pertinent questions. Apparently if I go to work tomorrow I have to write myself a note explaining what I am doing and why, so I can show it to the hundreds of thousands of police who will be patrolling the roads. ?
  19. We support local French businesses whenever we can; all the vehicles we have came from French dealers and are maintained by a local French garage but the corner shops had gone well before we came here.
  20. I cover an area of over 3,000 km2 in four departments and can honestly say that the number of small grocery shops I know of outside towns is no more than half a dozen. Even the ones subsidised by the communes don't last more than a few months. Same with butchers and boulangeries; fewer and fewer every year.
  21. van Lederhosen this evening was like a conductor of a school orchestra - doesn't matter what she was saying - every fecker was playing a different tune. ?
  22. What local shops? The nearest shop to us is one of three supermarkets placed close together 12km away from us. On route we pass a hairdressers and a pharmacy - that's it. Local shops do not exist outside the cities and large towns.
  23. I agree with your post. I too came across then during my working life and I didn't feel the love. For my money the only reason they are so popular is a massive shortage of good GSDs and few alternatives. I can understand them being used for military or firearms work, but as a pet or as a general purpose police dog most of them that I saw were in my opinion too hyper for my taste.
  24. When was the last time flights were turned back on route to a destination en mass, or shops, schools and businesses being told to close? Airlines and other industries are shutting down operations. That hasn't happened since WW2. We aren't being told the whole truth, but when big business is being crippled I know it ain't pretend.
  25. Ted, rich people are losing a lot of money due to coronavirus. This ain't no drill.
