  1. I heard a cuckoo near to where I live in SW France on 24th March and heard a hoopoe calling every day from the 25th. We saw cuckoos and hoopoes in the following days, but no swallows or martins even though the bats had come out of hibernation. Then we came down to Spain last Friday and there were a few swallows and swifts about, more each passing day. The other day I heard a single nightingale and by yesterday there were dozens singing. It has been a strange year for bird migration.
  2. Russia will run out of troops and supplies. Then Putin will itch to press the tactical nuclear button and that should result in him being topped from within. That's my guess.

    Pet hates.

And those videos of survival freaks 'wild camping' with their car a few yards from their hammock or sounds of civilisation in the background.
  4. Yes, they have the land bridge which will hinder Ukrainian exports. But at what future cost? That long slender corridor will be a death trap for Russian soldiers and convoys for years.
  5. Francie follows Jesus. Its probably him on Facebook he's quoting. Either him or Russel Brand. I get the two mixed up.
  6. I think Putin is making the best of a bad job. If he doesn't get the Black Sea corridor after failing to take the whole of Ukraine he will have failed at a great cost to Russia.
  7. For what its worth this is what I do:- A few years back I realised that I was going back to the same customers over and over again sometimes twice or three times a year. Because the area I cover is so big I sometimes ended up chasing my tail if jobs over ran the typical three visits I needed to clear most gardens. So, instead of taking €150 to €200 per intervention and waiting for them to call me I suggested a flat rate of €35 per month with two visits per month to check permanent trap sites, mainly Putanges. Now I work three days a fortnight. Each day involves 16 or 17 visits arran
  8. It was destined to be. Two legends meeting and falling in love. He should have paid attention to what was written in the song: I once had a girl or to be fair, she once had me!
  9. It is actually a very sad story. Just shows that Money Can't Buy You Love.
  10. If you read the Private Eye articles on them it transpires that they have £ billions invested in family companies that haven't been declared.
  11. Beach volleyball and mud wrestling are OK as womens spectator sports. But when they get a team of dikes playing football then it is too much. I mean, they have to keep stopping the game every five minutes so a bloke in the crowd can explain the offside rule to them.
  12. OK. I'll give it a go. I do like women's beach volley ball for some reason. ? But I draw the line at SPL. I'm not watching that schite.
  13. How do you turn your back on it? I would love to have some device or program that excluded wimmin's football, paraplegic games and all the other minor sports from the BBC Sport web pages. If its a minority they'll make you have it,
  14. I might have been a bit unkind to the poor unfortunates who inhabit the wrong side of the Penines. They don't actually throw away all those prime cuts of beef away. They make hot pot out of it. ?
  15. Bream from flowing rivers don't tend to be as slimy as still water bream and they fight better. In Sweden bream are caught by trawlers on huge freshwater lakes. They can be seen on fishmongers slabs all over the country. Last year when I was fishing the Charente an English bloke who's garden bordered the river saw me catching bream and asked me to keep one for him. Mind you, he is a Lancastrian and they will eat shite. They eat the cow's heels and stomach and throw the rest of the carcase away.
  16. I agree. There is a trout lake near where I used to live that held some enormous perch. They let me fly fish for them as long as I removed them. Anything above 1/2lb got knocked on the head and I took them to eat. It is very much like sea bream. Flaky flesh, not too soft. Lovely. All the trout I caught were given away. I have had zander too and that is similar.
  17. I know that you can't always judge people by their looks. But he has "Walt" written all over him. Can't get over the Reddit Legion in the Ukranian Army. ?

    THL book club?

They were pretty heavy to hold open with one hand ?
  20. Some sonars have a flash function for ice fishing. Instead of running all the time they just make a quick transmissjon every few seconds or whatever you program if to do.
  21. They were the best cars Austin Rover made FFS. Imagine if she'd bought an Allegro!
