I thought they weren't allowed to publish results until after the polls have closed in France at 19:00 UK time. Possibly a hoax.

Yes, the dogs do suffer stress at times. They have to continually be remotivated as the work they do can be repetative and boring. That is why the dogs used are primarily gun dogs as they cope with the searching better. Every now and then you will hear of dogs being used to detect early signs of cancer or similar medical conditions. Unless the dog is a companion dog as used by blind people or epelepsy sufferers it will quickly burn out. Dogs used to repeatedly check samples in laboratories will get stressed out very quickly and then try to avoid work. Dogs work for reward and if th

The problem with searching water is that there are currents caused by temperature and wind that can cause the scent to rise well away from where the corpse is.

I might have got it wrong, but I thought that they can't charge anyone who isn't a declared suspect after 15 years. That is why they have named him now.

No. It was all hype. Grime trained the dog as a one trick poney then made ridiculous claims about it. The other handler was a far better dog trainer and had some fantastic results with his collie Franky. The RUC, as was, used to fly in to our training school on a Friday afternoon and take him and the dog to Ulster where they searched for the missing people from the troubles. They dropped them off on Sunday afternoon and he was back at work with us the following morning. He never made any fuss about it whereas Grime was always brown nosing the press and Chief.

That would be the handler's opinion. There is a story behind it. The dog came in as a gift and the handler took it on himself without telling anybody and trained it up as a pure passive blood only detection dog. He blagged a trip to the States to show it off to the FBI. They weren't impressed because they had hundreds of their own unbeknown to him. He was making all sorts of outragous claims about the dog which the press lapped and pleased the Chief because of all the publicity he got. But it was all hype. The dog was no better than the other cadaver dogs and could only be used for one task w

There was a similar case in Barnsley. The samples found in the suspect's car included a type of plant only found in a small area of the north Lancashire coast. With that information the cadaver dog handlers were able to locate the body buried in the sand dunes. Another aspect worth a read is psychological profiling of criminals. Criminal Shadows is a fantastic read from the earliest days of this science being accepted as part of the investigations.

It is the bacteria that remains. Different types of bacteria populate different things and each has its own scent. As long as there is some humidity and a suitable temperature range the bacteria can remain for decades. The two dogs used for the McCann search were trained differently. One dog only detected blood and would give a passive indication so that it did not contaminate the samples taken by forensics. The other was a conventional cadever dog in that it would give a vocal indication on any human body matter. They are used for searching for bodies over larger areas. The 20+ year job

There is a lot of suspicious by the McCanns who seem to have been advised in what to and what not to do to avoid a police prosecution. The dog indication isn't surprising given that it was a holiday apartment and rental car. The thing triggering the dog's response could have been down to someone else accidentally leaving blood stains. The dog can detect the smallest amount and the other SYP cadever dog once indicated a murder scene over 20 years after it had occurred. The dog merely indicates where the forensic teams should examine. Without a DNA match it means nothing.

Pilot ignoring the No Smoking sign and causing a fire in the cockpit with his discarded fag end according to the Russian Ministry of Defence ?

For me the swingers thing is immaterial. It is how they acted from day 1. They have acted like defendants rather than victims all the way through right from the first day. Given that one of the party was a lawyer you can see where they got their advice from.

One of the ways that investigators prove that people are lying is when different people's accounts contradict each other. The McCanns have avoided this right from the start. She refused to answer questions after he had given a first account so they could not find anything . Neither of them fully cooperated with the police and their friends agreed to remain silent then blamed the police for their silence. Nothing they did rings true, right from the start.

An old friend of ours used to do point to point before it became formalised. Literally point to point across open land. He ran a livery in Oxfordshire so took whatever horses were in at the time. He had a horse called 'The Poacher' that he trained for the owner who let him use it for events so he took that whenever he could. He reckoned that it would have jumped anything he aimed it at and always won him some prize money.

Think Macron as the Tories and le Pen as The Brexit Party. Macron should win as he is seen as the the best of a bad pair, but like the Tories he has had to adopt some of le Pen's policies so will have lost some supporta. She knows that the EU terms can't be negotiated or changed just like Barnier did. That doesn't stop them promising to try to change them just to get the votes. Le Pen's policies are unlikely to be feasible. Macron's policies will cause years of strikes and civil disruption. If the yellow vests turn out Macron's lead could be cut on the day. Then he will claim political sa

The man carrying a child was investigated and explained. If you have time read the accounts of the tapas 7 in refusing to take part in a re-enactment. There are lots of suspicious reasons for refusing to participate. As if they were frightened of something. And GM received several phone calls from a UK mobile on the night of the disappearance and the morning after. There were other SMS messages deleted by the McCanns in that period. Also the Iraqi people didn't get much wealth out of their country's oil reserves. It all went too the ruling classes. To say that it was the Iraqi people's oil shows a total lack of understanding the Middle East.

The kid was dead. They were acting to save the parents. My guess is that one of the party will crack and tell the truth. If my hunch is right there is a shared guilt that is keeping the lid on. But things change over time.

He got to the shop and cleaned up before calling the police. There were others in the party who could have sorted the corpse while he was doing that.

They are also intelligent people. And who knows how much local knowledge that group had. We used to go to Cyprus and I reckon I could dispose of a body in the countryside out there. And bear in mind Portugal has an Atlantic coast. All they would need is a weight and a boat for an hour.

The dog's behaviour at the bottom of the stairs indicates a strong scent pool. But, bearing in mind it is a holiday let and a rental car the thing triggering the dog's response might be from previous renters. However, taking the dog's indication, GM's trip to buy cleaning products before calling the police, KM's verbal statement of "They've taken her." i.e. to dispose of the body, both M's reluctance to answer questions and them shaving the twin's heads so no hair could be sampled for sedatives then some element of guilt is likely. I think she may have fallen down the open stairs and suff

Just a reality check here; back in the 60's when families went to Butlins or Pontins they regularly left their kids locked in the chalet while they went boozjng or to a show. Nurses usec to cycle round the camp listening fod any babies crying. Then they would put the cbalet number on a blackboard headed " Baby crying in chalet" and the number written on. If you look at the photos shown at the start of 'Hi-Di-Hi!' You will see it. What the McCanns did isn't uncommon, even the Calpol doping of the kids is widespread amongst the medical profession.. It is what they did after the event

The problem with the dog's indications are that any human blood would trigger the indication. Without dna evidence the indication isn't worth anything evidentially. But it looks to me that there was some definite point of unterest at the bottom of those stairs. The dogs had previously indicated on training crime scenes that had been cleaned up using bleach and even indicated the mops and buckets used. They indicated a sink u bend that had one tiny drop of blood put down it and then rinsed. And, I understand that GM had cleaned up the apartment before calling the police. Then take what KM ha

This guy has been named as a suspect, not charged. The McCanns remain suspects too. The only reason they have now made him an official suspect is due to a ruling that after 15 years they cannot investigate anyone not previously declared as a suspect. They have no more on him now than before.

Someone I worked with was shot at point blank range with a 12 gauge and his police radio took the full impact. The second chamber misfired. When the gun was tested in the lab at Huntingdon it never misfired in 20 test cycles. And he still used to think he was unlucky.
